Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Posted , 253 users are following.

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

    Hi Sharday

thats good you have had some tests, and bloods done, I wonder if they did the FSH blood test ?

(Follicle-stimulating hormone) .. have you been offered an ultra sound to check all is okay with ovaries etc, no cysts etc.. I had follicular cysts in earlier peri 3 in total at different times, they caused me problems, periods etc, one was size of a tangerine, but as I did not have regular periods they did not go quickly, but.. it seemed that when i did have my next period these cysts went ... they were not serious... just annoying..if they grow...

I am in 8th year of peri now, had last period Aug 13 ... ( only two in 2013)

also, I had a weird throat sensation, like a golf ball type of feeling, like i had swallowed a golf ball .. have not had this as severe lately but if I was worried or abit anxious it seem to flare up...

Anxious face... hi hun, I am still feeling dandy, and this iron tablet ( half of one) is still working wonders it seems 😀, hope your okay ... take care jay x

I'm doing ok thanks just still dizzy but i've got over the bad stomach from last week thank goodness. take care too, hugs x

    anxious face ...

are did you, they are worth a try, mine are 105mg ( from the farmacia in spain) but... I only take half of one 52.5mg i use a pill cutter to slice them in half... I am okay, not constipated, but.... its good if you take them with vitamin C or orange juice on empty tum, as the vit c makes them absorb better... too much is not good..

so I am trying just half ...

make your stool black though 😮 thats quite normal... see how you get on, i felt amazing after a few days, i am still amazed, been packing stuff all day, none stop washing etc etc and feel great ... 😑 yippee about time...

let me know how you get on with them... Jay x

I've had an ultrasound done I want to say about 9 months ago and that came back good so my ovaries they said look fine. I did have a blood test with my hormones and that came back with my hormones level's being high. That was about 8 months ago. They said they would test it again in a year. I am definitely going to tell my doctor to test me for FSH now..

    hello baldwin4396

Definitely peri-menopause! If not too bad can stick it out! I'm on hrt and much better now. For dry vagina ask dr about vaginal hrt as you could go on to develop severe problems. This type of hrt does not enter your system so even if you don't want full hrt, this could be a very good option but won't cure any of the other symptoms.

    Hi Baldwin

yep sounds like peri to me aswell ...

i dont take HRT but Estroven Maximum helps me ( herbal ) I am aged 49 in year 8 of peri..

as for vaginal dryness, try replens its fab, use as and when required... its not hrt, just a nice lube for peri meno and post meno ladies, i use it as and when required, dryness is a problem for me to, to the point of soreness sometimes, replens is very good... think thats how its spelt, I also take Maca, Vit D and Calcium, Estroven Max as mentioned earlier, and good old iron... 😑... replens is in a tube and you press it into a vaginal applicator and insert and press it in, can use occasional or however you prefer, its gentle and non irritable, also there are HRT options if you prefer those... take care Jay x

    Morning smile

Thanks for all your responses, I am going to read up about Estroven Maximum, and replens, the doctor was reluctant to put me on HRT as my mum and nana both had breast cancer, she mentioned going on the pill to even out my hormones, but I didn't want to go down that route, much prefer to try Herbal remedies.

    Thankyou once again smile x

    Good Morning baldwin 😃

same here, I couldnt go down the HRT either due to family history, and breast and other cancers in aunts etc, I chose not to take it my mother did not take it either ( shes now age 83)

Estroven Maximum or Estroven Maximum with energy helped no end, take in morning... just one a day, Maca is good too I take that aswell, and iron thats a god send to me.. been taking iron for 3/4 weeks and it has changed my life, energy etc, its been amazing, even my aches and pains virtually gone, blood tests didnt show i needed it, but tried it as took it when i was pregnant years ago and also said I had more energy when pregnant than I have ever had in my whole life.

iron, are strong here ( i live in spain) they are 105mg, so I split mine with pill cutter and take 52.5mg a day, I just wish I had taken them years ago... they are said to assist womens energy, they do turn stool dark thats normal with iron.. take in morning on waking with empty stomach, vit C or an orange juice assists iron absorption ,

Replens MD you can get a free trial one on the Replens uk website I saw them last night, it last three days each application, very good...

Estroven is herbal, as is Maca, Maca is good for meno and libido etc aswell, I take calcium and vit D aswell..

Estroven cheaper on ebay I get mine from USA but amazon uk etc also do it...

I used Estroven for a couple of years, and stopped taking, then a month later I was so bad with symptoms, so restarted and I am fine again, so they work well for me, will take a couple of weeks to kick in though...

a month ago I was rock bottom, and these ladies on here supported me, but since and iron has changed my life which is good as I have just moved house, yesterday I was pottering for 10 hours solid, wouldnt of been doing this before, its the iron 😀 after 5 days of iron I could feel myself picking up...

even my husband said ' where do you get the energy, come and take a minute' its fab ...never thought I would feel like this again, havent had a oeriod since Aug 2013 and feel fab at the mo....

Good luck have a good day, Jay x

    Thanks Jay ...

I think I could benefit from iron tablets, I live in Spain also, I have no energy and am constantly moaning about how tired I am, so will definately try them. A lot of these herbal tablets seem to concentrate on Hot Flushes, i am not suffering with these, I need something for my lack of energy ( iron tablets ) and my low mood, has anyone tried St Johns Wart ? just wondered if that would help ?

    Thanks, Sharon x

    Hi Baldwin ..

cool ... in Spain too 😃 I get my iron from the farmacia, mines called Fero-Gradumet 105mg which I split in two.. also from Farmacia I get NateCal its Calcium and Vit D in one, and a must for peri and meno etc..

I havent ttied St Johns Wort.. Iron has helped my energy, mood, and given me enthusiasm back , i am amazed, before I had no interest in anything, filled with dread I was, now I feel totally refreshed and wanting to go out and about... let me know how you get on Sharon, Jay xx
