Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Posted , 253 users are following.

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

I was interested in Deena's post and just wanted to say that sometimes we can do all we possibly humanly can to help ourselves but need help - I'm open to anything that helps, we all find our unique solutions and all we can do is share what does or doesn't work for us.

Re anxiety - I found CBT enormously helpful, I think I had 5 sessions 3yrs ago and I still draw o what I learnt to help me. On the days when I can't help myself - it's down to once about every 6-8wks now - I take a diazepam or have a few drinks. My anxiety was so bad that I found myself stuck in the doorway of Sainsburys, overwhelmed at the choices that faced me, the choices within choices; every problem, big or small, seemed the same size, life just overwhelmed me - it was frightening, disorientating.

With CBT, sometimes you're going to be unlikely and have a bad match with your counsellor or not be ready to be open to it.

With many things, you can pinpoint a problem and find practical solutions, one by one - CBT can help you find the path and learn how to hold on to it again.

The peri health tips forum is all about sharing what works or what is out there to help.

I hope you're in a better place soon, Deena, and find something or someone to help you back into a healthy and happy life.

Hi. I can honestly say I have all of these symptoms and more. Also have nausea, joint problems etc. The penny has only recently dropped with my that these are all probably connected with the menopoause. I doi a home menopause test which confirmed it. I've been to see my doctor, and have decided to try natural phyto supplements for now. I have been taking them for 2 weeks and have not had a hot flush or night swear for a week. Also having calcium and vitamin d supplements. Due to stomach issued having a gastroscopy in a week after many other test for stomach related issues. I honestly feel like my body is falling to bits. I think its a case if ruling possible nasty scenarios out then finding a solution to the rest of it!!!

hi linda, i am freezing all the time and vibrating on the inside is a good way you've described it frown . I say i'm trembling cold on the inside. Can you believe i wear a vest top, t shirt, thick jumper or cardigan, big scarf, jeans, boot socks and boots, big padded jacket and that seems to be every day. I cant remember that last time i wore a dress or sandles cos i get so freezing even my lips tingle (i miss my summer clothes) . i'm due to see my consultant at the hospital on Thursday and although i mentioned it many times before to him i'm going to ask about my thyroids and push this problem as i feel i have got worse. I couldn't stand out in a breeze for long as i'll get shivering them it takes hours to thaw out. Sorry i can't give to a solution to this but just want you to know your not alone and i feel for you cos its really troublesome and i know some of these lovely ladies on her would kill to be cold when their going through a hot flush but i get so cold it hurts. sending you a comforting hug x

I know I have mentioned this before on other headings, but incase it helps anyone, I am in year 8 of peri, and do not take HRT ( cant as family history) so I take herbal Estroven Max, and iron they have been a god send, also Maca, calcium and Vit D .. ( Natecal) also a must for bones etc...

I notice ( not had a period since Aug 13) that monthly as if a period is due, i get overly emotional, feelings of doom, anxious, dont like myself, want to hide away, want to cry, can talk about something and then burst into tears ( did that at the dinner table today) also feel sick, and headachey, colder than normal, had a few flushes the last few days, even gums ache ( sounds crazy ) I thought I had something wrong with my teeth, went to dentist and showed them where pain was, and all okay ???? ugh... xray fine, but gums and teeth ache, how odd, I sound like a lunatic... I feel exceptionally tired too these last few days, like when a period is coming, but it doesnt... on the odd occasion one does come, I feel really really sick, and headaches like migraine then...

I tried the natural progesterone cream a couple of years ago for many months, but it gave me extremely tender breasts and a big breast cyst so I stopped taking it and all returned to normal, its so difficult finding the right one, when HRT is not an option.... Estroven maximum helps alot, i took it for a few years and then stopped and OMG everything I mention was six times worse, but now eased off but not completely gone its now each month it hits me harder like a missed period type of thing, symptoms no cycle... i am aged 49 ... hugs to you all, your not alone...

Hi ladies, hope you all enjoyed Mother's Day ❤️

I don't really comment a lot on here at the moment, still getting used to these feelings I'm experiencing so please bear with me as I will be asking lots of questions (sorry).

One thing I've noticed is my sinuses seem to be constantly blocked and very dry. Is this something that is normal? I am also experiencing spots in my vision (floating)... Not all the time but I've noticed it more recently. Does anyone else experience issues like this? I'm starting to think is there something wrong with me... 😟

Any advice will be gratefully received!

    Thanks,

    Sharon xx

Yes I too have have sinus problems, but hadnt linked it to peri. I have a steamer which helps ( I am asthmatic so use it for that also ) Try a nasal spry used for hay fewer- beconase etc, I find that helps. Can buy OTC. And yes my eyes are awful but again hadnt linked to peri as I ve worn glasses since my teens and just put it down to old age! Sometimes I have to blink 3-4 times before i can focus on page/screen because of the floaters...

    Hi Sharon,

My sinus seem to play up also, more so since these strange feelings of going through the peri- menopause have started. I spoke to my doctor last week who was lovely as I initially went to see her because I suddenly started feeling or being sick after eating things like Pork or Fish & Chips which again frightened me because I thought there must be something wrong. I explained to her that most mornings I was waking feeling nausea and always coughing because of the phlegm in my throat and sometimes bring up the phlegm, I also have a blocked nose. I then went on to tell her that I have never had issues in what I was able to eat until now. I never fry food and only ever bake or grill so I know that I look after myself.

Her reply to me was that due to the hormone changes going on in your system and any allergies such as sinus and problems with your digestive system can become more obvious during these changes. She said it was nothing to worry about (she checked me over to make sure). She prescribed me some tablets for the acid reflux and have to take this first thing in the morning and I have only been taking this for a week now and already am feeling loads better.

I have also been seeing a really good acupuncture who has been helping me through these changes and last week when I started with this being sick when eating Pork etc she has been working on this area together on my sinus and also with the calming to try and stop me worrying unnecessary during the peaks when your hormones may be on overdrive. This seems to also have settled my sinus down aswell.

I am always here for you if you would like to talk further! Massive hugs and thank you for sharing your experiences as well, together we can all over come these off days which may continue through this transitional period.

    Joy xxx
