Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

Beconase nasal spray or similar will help, as will a steamer, £10 in Argos.

Hi everyone, seems like another symptom a lot of us have in common, sinus problems . I thought I had just developed these for some other reason. Campervan queen I too have had sinus issues it seems permenant and also a lot of floaters in my vision I also thought there was some other reason for this as I am very short sighted. Do you have dry eyes too. Mine are now so bad I can't wear contacts but has previously had no problems with them for 28 years.. So fed up and it's not helping my self esteem which in turn makes me even more down. It has to be to do with hormones as a lot of us seem to get these issues. I'm going back to the doctors tomorrow, not sure April fools day is the best day to do that but we will see.

    Hi Tammy

I am in year 8 of peri, I am 49, and this last few days I have had similar to you again, hot flushes several, then cold, cold hands, thick head, nose keeps dripping, headaches, keep taking deep breathes all the time, feel extra tired, abit sluggish, hard to say exactly isnt it, as its everything at once .... just feel like chilling.... feel abit anxious, have been tearful this weekend too... I know my FSH levels are menopausal, but in early peri as the hormones are up and down erractic sometimes the FSH blood test shows normal when infact next time it is not...

in early days I found the home testing menopause sticks good, you use like you would a pregnancy test, can get off ebay or amazon, Boots etc, and you can monitor yourself at different times of month...

    big hugs ... Jay xxx

Hi, Tammy I got my menopause tests from Amazon for 2.99 the prices do vary a lot boots only seem to sell the promensil on eat about £17 so that's a big difference I paid the extra £1 express postage and got them in 2 days. You get 2 in a pack for that price. Your symptoms do seem the same as most of the ladies here. My FSH test the doctors did 2 months ago came back within the normal range for not menopausal but I ordered the test so I can try myself at other times. I'm off to bed now as get up at 5 am if I manage to sleep that long, ha ha. Big hugs to all x

    Hi Tammy

the menopause home testing kits vary in price .... i got some off ebay i think .. it was a while ago now...

but handy, normally a two pack but start about £4 or so upwards, in my first years of peri my FSH blood tests said normal, and they were not, i was Peri and my Doctor at that time explained that maybe I was Peri but the hormone levels at that time of blood test where maybe more normal at that time, however as time went on my FSH levels proved menopausal and i used the home kits too and they were really good...

in my early peri years, i actually had fainting bouts, and passed out on three occasions, but... i had heavy flooding periods, and then spotting, for 21 months constant, i was lucky if i had three clear days at one time i. 21 months, it was spotting in between heavy periods ( which i had never had previously) but together it never stopped...

i lost alot of weight too, i had scans, tests, i did have ovarian cysts too back then, they were found when i had scans, follicular cysts which we all have but mine did not disperse at next period, mine grew quite large but i didnt need surgery as luckily they eventually went of their own accord...

also dizziness, i began to recognise the dizzy spells and knowing i may pass put, so would get sat down, and made sure i ate little an often to keep energy and sugars level...

early on also i felt the urge to wee alot, always wanting the loo, that passed but i had that for about 5 years, would always be looking for a loo when out shopping, felt the urge but wasnt actually full bladder...

    big hugs Jay xx

    Hi Linda

toothache... this is a strange one, my tooth has been really sensitive, even another and thats root canaled and shouldnt even be sensitive .... anyhow, dentist checked and xray and no cavity, but last thursday i couldnt sleep for tooth pain, felt like pulling it out myself ( joke) 😮 Dentist said my gums looked abit inflamed, asked if i grind teeth at night... ' ugh' dont think so..

anyway, they been really achey, but if he says all okay what do you do...

they feel more settled today, i used this stuff earlier called GC tooth mousse wow it coats the teeth and what a difference... ' thought that wouldnt work' but it has helped....

i will have to see if it continues, I am abit weird all round at the moment, i havent had a period for 7 months, but have the symptoms, but no period, and its now, so maybe its like you say, just that.... fingers crossed...

normally the symptoms pass and I feel less tearful and okay again until next month ... hugs Jay x

Hi there, I had brain fog for about 8.5 years. It never goes always until last year. I suffered from the symptoms you described plus I had severe stomach pain, lost short term memory and often confused associated with frustration (anger/fear). It all started when I was moved to a cubical where the roaches blew down from the air vent above my desk. The coffee in the cup grew black molds if I left it on my desk over night. It affected my mood and personality in addition to my body. 4 years later I changed to a different company but the brain fog carried with me for another 4 years. I tried so many different supplements and none of them fixed the root cause but only short term relief. Brain fog became severe over 2 - 3 years ago. I felt stress made it worst but it wasn't the cause. My left face turned numb, chest pain, unable to move eyeballs to the sides. I lost sense of smell and had difficulty to turn my neck. I visited my family doctor, eye doctor. I had MRI, ECG, took dozens of blood works from different clinics and all came back negative until, by luck, I switched to a new dentist. He took a comprehensive x-rays around my dental and found out I had a root canal infection in my left upper jaw. It infected the bones and the nerves on the left nasal and upper jaw died and my bone shrunk. Before seeing the new dentist, my whole body turned colder and that's when I realized I was slowly dying. After the nerve removed and cleaned up the root canal plus 2-week of antibiotic intake, all of the sudden the brain fog disappeared. Yes just like that. All those years suffering is gone. I know brain fog can be caused by mold and root canal infection in addition to other illness. I found this web site very helpful and educational: www . drlwilson . com / articles / brain_fog . htm (remove all the spaces in between words).

Hello! I am so glad to have found this forum. I, too, have been suffering from brain fog for 3 1/2 years. Additional symptoms include: headaches, forgetfulness, fatigue, but the most prominent and most life affecting is the brain fog. I have had all kinds of tests, blood, urine, sleep, ENT, brain scan, eye & ear exam, tried accupuncture, chiropractic care, spoken to a psychologist/psychiatrist, tried zoloft, saw a neurologist, and endocronologist, checked vitamin levels, pretty much... you name it. I have a 7 month old, and am currently 2 months pregnant. The pregnancy is not a problem, neither are the symptoms, as I don't have many associated with the pregnancy. With the first one I had none, so I've been lucky in that sense. But what is driving me mad is the brain fog that affects me daily. It never gets better, and none of the treatments, supplements, or diet changes I have tried have made a difference or helped. I am joining this forum in hopes of finding answers as I am at a loss for what else I can try, but i will not lose hope, and I maintain faith that there is an answer for all of us. I would love to hear what treatments, or tests others have undergone and what has helped. Hopefully we can all help each other find an answer. Thank you and looking forward to the support.

    Hi Newbie..

Good Lord, thank goodness you sorted that out... got me worried now... ( I live in Spain) maybe I see another Dentist if this doesnt stop... its deffo a problem, its also hot & Cold sensitive... he said my gum was receding also.

I get fuzzy brain fog, but only Peri related, if people talk fast to me, I tend to shut off as I cant take all the gobbledy gook fast words in my head.... need time to process what they say, cannot deal with shouters and fast talkers... 😦

my sensitive tooth has an inlay so i think theres a gap and its infected myself, I have some Metronizadole suspension that the Farmacia gave incase iti is nfected... ( this is what dentists give you normally tablet form for abscess or infection) I am on day 4 of that so we shall see..

wow I am so pleased you got sorted.... hugs Jay xx
