Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

Hello ladies. I've taken some comfort in knowing that my symptoms are the same as everyone else. I empathize with you all. My question is: what do I do to stop or lessen the severity of the symptoms? I like to take a more integrated approach to my healthcare but lean towards natural methods. Someone recently recommended raspberry leaf tea and it seems to help but only marginally. Are there any supplements that I could take ( or avoid for that matter)? I feel a bit desperate at this point. Any suggestions souls be appreciated.

Hello bb106.. The whole peri thing stinks! Here's what has been helping me. I started taking lecithin granules and man has it helped with the anxiety and bouts of depression. I have been taking 1 tablespoon 1 time a day mixed with yogurt faithfully. Lecithin granules are inexpensive and a natural remedy. Took a week or so before I noticed the benefits. Hope this helps a little, I am taking one step at a time myself and hoping I can get by just having to this. Well good luck and keep your chin up!

    Hi bb106..

have a google at maca (for peri), and also Estroven Maximum, these are both natural and I have taken them for years, once I stopped the Estroven and wow the symptoms kicked in alot more severe, so for me they help, but anxiety and peri continues, but maybe not as severe ... like anything you have to take them daily and continue.... also look at Vit B 12 and Vit B 6 supplements, apparently a must during peri... Hi ladies my doctor called me today to discuss my blood results , not that I understood much ! My hormone levels had changed since I had them checked a couple of years ago he said I was probably in peri menopause and there was some other concerns , he asked me if I could possibly be pregnant ( I can't ) but not sure why he asked that . I have to have them done again in 2 weeks so might make some more sense then , hope everyone is having a good day x x

heres an interesting snippet ... may help some..

    FSH Blood Level Measurement

This is the key test to determine whether or not you are in menopause. A sample of your blood is taken to measure the levels of FSH -- follicle stimulating hormone -- in your blood. Because your FSH levels rise when your ovaries stop producing enough estrogen, high FSH levels can signal that your body is entering menopause.

Normal FSH day 3 value is 3-20 mlU/ml

FSH levels above 10 to 12 mlu/ml indicate that your ovaries are starting to fail. In other words, this means that you are in perimenopause -- the beginning stages of menopause when you notice physical symptoms, but before you have stopped having a period for a year, or have "diminished ovarian reserve"

Higher FSH levels -- levels about 30 to 40 or above -- are usually taken to signal menopause or ovarian failure. You may even be getting periods with your FSH levels this high, but it still is a sign that your body isn't producing enough estrogen to maintain regular ovarian function.

    Ladies..... Skin changes ....

heres one I keep meaning to mention...

Skin .... my skin use to be so soft and smooth, and never looked my age 49 ... (50 in June)

lately I notice it looks abit dimply .... like a golf ball 😳 loosing elasticity ... my arms seem to look abit that way too elbow up, look abit old 😳 ....

bit of age creeping in around the old knees too .... and drier than it use to be,

anyone else notice any changes in skin...

i dont like it ... what can you do .... nothing ... just watch it get worse 😱

hi jay, the skin changes oh yes. like you i hav always had younger looking skin than i am but these last few months I've noticed especially my chin looks dimply like a golf ball as you say and has gone really dry. I've also had spots which have been really sore, this is while I've been on a period for 35 days so i imagine hormonal spots but never the less unsightly. I've got sure a bloated stomach i feel like I'm carrying a brick or should i say several. do you ever get this jay or anyone else. As you know I'm going to Durham for a couple of days but to be honest I'm dreading it cos i'm afraid of being ill, travelling all that way, sleeping there, being there etc etc its making me anxious when i used to enjoy these times and should be. oh dear another moan over for today. sorry xx
