Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

Hi,When you say brainfogwhat exactly do you mean? I feel like there's nothing in my head and therefore find it really hard to converse -they talk to me and I can mainly only give one-wordanswers-I find it really hard to initiatr conversation too-it's very distressing! I also get a whole load of physical symptoms too.xx

Carl, you are not alone. I have been having panic attackes, anxiety like symproms, fatigue etc ever since tghe first quarter of this year. The problem started when I was in some African Country were I experienced food poisoning. after getting better, I have been feeling chills all over my body, a feeling like I cant breath properly, flu like, insect crawing under my scalp etc. I went to South Africa and bought anti-depresants like Robaxin, restin among others. drunk the medicine for a week and got better. after two months the problem began again. this time I took diazepam and some vitamin suppliments and again i felt better. But the panic attacks have continued and I do not know what to do now. maybe i need to do the panic attack test. I think you need to sought it out psycologically rather than through conventional medicine.

Fo the last two weeks I have had many of the same symptoms and extensive testing so far has resulted in normal ranges and no problems.

I am scheduled to see my doctor in 5 days to hear the definitive results of  a brain MRI, CT of my neck, ultrasound of my entire abdomen and stress tests results.  All the preliminary results of these were normal.

I am going to request that she order a Lyme Disease screening, I live in an area where there are numerous ticks and Lyme disease can cause these symptoms among others. My children 25 years ago were seriously suffering from it and treatment was several months long before they each felt better.

If you live in an area where you could have been bitten by a tick, it it advisable to get tested to rule that out. The syrocetes can get into the brain and affect it.

I wish you well and I empathize as I am going through this right now.

    Hi carlacupcake,

you could honeslty be describing me...right down to the frequent urination!!  For me at the moment the dizzyness and lightheadness is really bad.  I was trying to explain to my friend the other day how I was feeling and I honestly couldn't.  I am only 37 and I thought i would be at least in my 50's before I would have to deal with the menopause.  I had never even heard of premenapause unitl a couple of months ago!!!  This forum is a god send.

Hi Carlacupcake, I feel like I could of wrote that post. I was at my worsted at the beginning of this year. After going through a few years of peri and suffering horible symptoms the same as you I could stand it anymore, it was the constant migraines I couldn't deal with. I've suffered with them since I was a teenager. I use a triptan called zomig and it was a godsend when I first was prescribed it. But then my raging hormones kicked them off big style, I was spending more and more time in bed and I was suffering with terible anxiety because of this. I was ready to give in to HRT. Then by chance I saw a new doctor, female about my age so I think she just understood me. After a blood test she said I was too far through my menopause to go on HRT. She suggested I took a beta blocker for migraine prevention and as they say the rest is history. They took a few week to start working, they made me light headed dizzy and a bit quezzy. But then everything charmed down the migraine calmed down and I could function normally again and life got back to normal. A bonus of the beta blockers was that they charmed my anxiety down great. I take atenolol, I also think this is a drug for high blood presure but can also be used as a migraine preventative. I still have headache but these can be dealt with by just taking painkillers. I still have menopause symptom but nothing I can't handle.

I'm sure like me you'll find the right treatment and maybe a nice female doctor would understands what your going through.

hang on in there it will get better. X

    Dear carlacupcake,

Notice your post is from a year ago - hope everything is better for you ☺️!! When I read your list it was a deja-vu from 2 years ago whenI was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Do have a look on any Fibromyalgia website featuring symptoms and they will unfortunately mirror your symptoms.

    Wishing you all the best

Hi carla, i have had all of the things you list for a while too. I have worried a lot about it and really hate being female because it seems all of the life is dominated by this sort of worry.

I have spoken to a doctor about heart and ive made another appt to talk about cervix because im worried. But deep down below the worry i believe its hormonal. Before this began i had periodz of intense sexual desire like never before and i felt a drive to have sex but it seemed to be cyclical at certain times. I felt like my body was making a last push to reproduce. Ive been plagued with the smelling vagina too. I know men can smell it ive seen two hovering near me and sniffing if i dont shower often enough.

I hope that everything is natural ans ok. Its just one paranoid worry after another and im almost obsesed with my health thougb i try so hard to forget it. Im glad and im not the only one.

Im glad you posted those symptoms its a relief to know.
