Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

Hi. Ive been reading the posts with great interest after searching symtpoms that are driving me crazy.. My nan and mum both had early menopause I am 32 nearky 33 and didnt think could be hormones as young, untill I saw a segment on this morning detailing similar symptoms... I have a long list of physical ongoing symptoms since Aug so over 6 months now.. are the symptoms of peri ongoing like this? There are days or several days I feel ok then it hits again.. The DRs have prescirbed me anti Ds which I cant take as i am too sensative to meds..

This all started in Aug on a hangover, I had been having hot flushes but I drink allot due to the nature of my job and put it down to that and since stopping alcoohol they seem to have subsided however in Aug i was watching tv and got this wierd sensation in my head like it was shutting down, its hard to describe but like my brain was stopping I went to a&e and they said i had a pnic attack this happened a few times then the headaches started and ive had daily headaches since.. mri, eeg clear, all bloodtests clear, urine and chest x ray clear.. since then ive had various panic attacks, muscle twitching, a rushing feeling through my body and now they way it manifests itself is that I feel ill all the time, i cry and complain.. how do i feel so ill.. like a virus, im tired allot, i tire out just trying to speak, im an outgoing party girl and i dont feel like going out at all, i notice not often but sometimes my speech is odd like i have to think about it, also not often but does happen i walk into a room and cant remember why im there, my headaches are worse in the evenings, i feel faint allot more so when i feel ill and if i have a panic attack now i feel as if im going to faint, im dizzy allot even at night and lying down and can feel faint all day blood pressure ok i suffer derealisation, anxiety, frequent urination worse at night it feels uncomfortable, i did also have a cyst on an ovary about 6 months ago and this went away on its own. i feel completely fed up and like i just want to go back to how i felt before all this..

I dont feel the Drs have helped me at all and ive just started accupuncture and am seeking therapy but even when i suggest the symptoms to ppl they seem unsure as there wasnt anything to trigger the anxiety and my physical symptoms are so ongoing and severe

Does anyone considering my family history think this could be peri and how do i get a definitive answer, i notice someone suggeted hormonre sticks..

please help im so sick of feeling sick and getting me down

      Hi nixnix

Oh boy I feel your pain as I'm reading. This all is very familiar to what I experienced in the beginning of my Peri. I was in and out of ER several times which I did have a tachycardia heart problem but my symptoms got worse after my surgery. I am now in my 5 th year of Peri and at times it does ease up but just as you begin to feel normal again, the Peri symptoms begin all over again putting us back into a depressed stupor.

Your best advice is your own. You know your body best! Drs I think treat us as guinea pigs guessing what will work and if they prescribe something and it don't work, well then they give something else.

Natural is best...its the way God intended and in the end, I believe we have better results. I still have a lot of the same symptoms but knowing that it will pass and I'm just going to experience a bad symptomatic day, helps me relax and not panic about it, as much.

I have gotten through my years of Peri with flaxseeds and chia seeds, chasetree berry and maca herbs. A good B complex with B 6 in it. Gaba to relax your nerves helps a lot . just read and see what works best for you, we are all different. What works for one, may not work for you but, its better to try then have all these symptoms. Print out a chart...you can Google menopause or menstrual charts and print them. Take notes of bad days and good days. Compare them month to month so you know which herbs will benefit you and what doesn't . This process starts with all trial and error. Like I said you know your body best...but with our memory its best to chart it all lol.

Jay and the ladies will give some good helpful advice on this forum. I don t know how I would have made it through, had I not read and had responses to my post when I started my Peri symptoms.

Hope this helps you some and praying you feel better soon. ☺ Be Blessed!

Psalms 32:7. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. 😇

      Hi Debbie

I'm in the US. I'm not sure if its sold in the UK. I'm sure if you do a Google search it will pop up. The brand I use is from " Now" and it has 100 capsules of 500 mgs + with added B-6, which last a while and paid 6.99 for mine. I'm not sure of the price differences in the UK. Sorry wish I could be more of help to you.

Its not a pill that gives a wow factor, but it will definitely give you a calming affect. When I'm really irritated or the grandkids are on my last nerve...I will open up a capsule and poor under my tongue and let it start to relax me.

Good luck to ya & be blessed!

Hi, I hope you are doing better than you were when you posted this. I'm wondering if you figured out if you were in Peri? I'm 34 and going through similar symptoms which started a few months after I came off birth control. I've been told I have anxiety but I feel it's hormonal, have you gotten any better? Can you suggest anything?

    Hi

Just read your list of Symptoms & you could have been describing me.

I have had all your Symptoms over the past year, in varing degrees.

The brain fog, the tiredness, headaches, migraine, jelly legs, feeling shaky inside, dizziness often feeling nauseus & generally not 100%. I was thinking of going to the Doctors but all my symptoms sound so vague i just dont know if the doctor would actually be able to help. Did have a number of blood tests about 6 months ago and nothing showed up. i just want to get on with my life but just don't seem to have the energy to do anything but the basics.

Hi deborah  I too felt like you as you'll see my reply to carlacupcake who started this post BUTTT 2 years on and i have improved greatly but i must say still get the odd symptom but not all at once as i did in thre begining of peri.  You'll get going soon, perhaps gets some vitimins and be kind to yourself, I know that sounded funny to me when i was told to be kind to myself but i now realise how i was trying to fit everything in at once as i was used to but some of us cant do that while were going through this horrendous time so we have to slow dont so dont worry about only doing the basics just get through each day the best you can as i still do.  sending you a comforting hug x

Thank you smile I'm taking Vit B 6, tried black Cohash but I think I had a bad reaction to it, felt like I had been poisoned, very weak & strange, i could feel strange sensations in my legs & arms like the blood going round my body (I know it sounds weird) it stopped a couple of days after stopping the Black Cohash. I have many allegic reactions to antibiotics.

The night sweats/hot flushes seem to have reduced but the dizziness, chronic tiredness etc has got worse.

I know what you mean about the dizziness i still have this daily but not 24/7 like it was.  I get so many heaaches as well and my eyes feel there being pulled out, do you ever get this deborah? I go tired as soon as i get home from work but have to carry on as we do.frown x

      Deborah,

I've had all of that as well. To be honest, I don't think doctors associate these symptoms with hormone changes. My family doc basically said hormone changes can really screw a body up. Well, I totally agree. I no longer feel like I'm dying of some horrible disease. I take it all in stride now. I take my vitamins which have helped a bit. Just looking forward to it being over. Yesterday I had muscle twitches, one was in my temple area. I just felt strange all day but still went out food shopping. My next hurts most days and I'll get weird pains in random places. It's just all so annoying lol

I do get pain in my eyes now & again, they often seem to be bloodshot & quite red by the evening.

Looking into getting some Magnesium Citrate as people have mentioned helps with sleep problems but also give you energy too.

Have bought multi vits but do have a pretty good diet with lots of fresh fruit & veg, chicken & fish etc

      Hi

It would appear we are not so strange and there are so many others who share our weird and not so wonderful symptoms. All my bloods came back normal/good. How about you? How are you feeling now? x
