Perimenopause, palpitations and the pill

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi all. I've never posted on this board but I've recently spent a great deal of time reading thru old posts. I'm 43 and am certain that I'm in perimenopause. I spend most of every month sick - when I ovulate and for an entire week after, the week before my period and most of the week during. My cycle is only 23-24 days now so that doesn't leave many decent days. The palpitations are awful, they really scare me. I've had 3 EKGs in the last few weeks and all were fine. Have any of you taken birth control pills as a way of lessening the symptoms of peri? Did they help the palpitations?

    Hi Jennifer,

It's me again. Just wondering how you are doing with the birth control? I'm seeing gynaecologist tomorrow so hopefully I'll get somewhere.

    Hope all is going well.

Hi Deirdre! The pill didn't work for me. Even at such a low dose, it made me really sick. It also never regulated my period, I just bled heavily the entire time I was on it. That doesn't mean it won't work for you though, it's worth trying. I actually wound up getting back on Lexapro for anxiety and am feeling MUCH better. Still have sickness every month, but it doesn't last as long and I'm able to handle it better.

I hope you get some answers at your appt.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for getting back to me. I will see what tomorrow brings and decide then. I'm struggling with extreme back pain etc along with anxiety and low mood so I may need both options of birth control and anxiety meds. Anxiety is manageable right now though. It sucks big time. Hope this doesn't last for years. Glad the lexapro is helping you. I hope you continue to feel better. smile
