Perimenopause severe coldness?? Anyone
Posted , 66 users are following.
Hello Ladies !
I get these cold spells once a month. They are usually before my periods. My hormones are over the place right now being in perimenopause for 4 yrs now. I started to get these cold days where they was bearable in my first year. I would wake up at night and be chilled to the bone. I couldnt find anything to keep me warm. They have now turned into being so severely cold that it makes my toes sting sometimes...almost like when I was little girl playing in the snow too long. My bodie feels like I could catch the flu at any time but Im not sick with any other symtoms. My leg will go numb at times on these days.. like from the knees down to my feet. Some days I have tingling in my face around my cheeks and chin along with my hands and part of my wrist feeling tingling like it will go numb at any minute. Im not anxiuous or feeling any anxiety at these times either. I have had anxiety with my Peri but these are not the same things going on. I have seen so many doctors and no one can find anything wrong. I aslo have days during the month as if I have asthma. My chest gets so tight it hurts my jawline and my neck tightens. I have even seen an Endocrinologist an had my blood tested for any thyroid problems but they said everything looked normal. Any ladies out there with the same problems so I know its more hormones then a serious problem??? Does it ever go away after menopause?? Please let me know what youve tried that works. I CANT use HRT Ive had an ablation for Tachycardia and anything strong gives me bad heart palpitations. Maybe someone has tried a natural method that may help. Thanks Ladies !!!

I've been getting the tingling sensations for a few weeks now and thought it was everything BUT menopause. Thanks for sharing, I now plan on seeing my doctor about it.

New to this site but so glad I've found it. The last 3 months have been a total nightmare which just gets worse!! Started with thyroid playing up and thyroxine increased to 125mg, then diagnosed with vitamin B12 deficiency, 6 injections in 2 weeks followed. Menopause symptons horrendous - freezing cold skin, night sweats, feel clammy but skin freezing. Legs like jelly and weak, numb, tingling feet and now the stairs are a major issue - I'm only 51 but feel 100!!! Have reduced to part time hours as so tired. Doctor keeps telling me it's menopause but I can't have HtRT as have migraine aura. I take thyroxine, vitamin D, selenium, evening primrose oil and magnesium. Any advice greatly appreciated

Know it old post but are you better now. I am also hypothyroid on thyroxine. No period for 18 months, last 9 months had horrible symptoms of eye problems, freezing cold all the time, night sweats and day sweats. Acid reflux, jelly legs, lack of confidence and terrible anxiety. Have not had HRT due to family history. Have not had antidepressants. Only use magnesium spray on legs. Wake around 4am feeling anxious. How did you get better?

I actually have the exact same problems as you. But my coldness is constant . Sometimes I feel like I'm so cold that across my shoulders gets so tight like my muscles are in spasm and my blood vessels are restricted and I can hardly breath. It's so frightening. It will ease of after I get warm. But what if I'm somewhere and can't get warm. Am I just going to cease up , and be found dead somewhere. ??????
And even if it's warm and I feel s cool breeze on me , I begin to freeze up straight away. Any answers please.

Hello ladies! Im blown away at everyone that has been trying to get answers to this cold issue. I haven't had severe ones since I've stayed away from doctors and done my own thing. It's natural, simple and cheap! Chia seeds !!! Learn your body with them though... to much isn't good and to little won't help. I started off using 1/4 of a teaspoon. You can put them in salads or sprinkle them on anything you eat. I just chew them up really good. There's really no taste to them.
I hope this finds all the cold ladies out there. This may not help some but when we feel the way we do ...anythings worth a try once! Be blessed 😊

How do you know what's to little and what's to much. What harm does it do if you have to much

I would keep a journal of my symptoms and then a side note of what I would take. I would wait for a while and about 20 mins later would jot down how I felt and if it would help me, til I learnt my body. If I took too much I would get like a headache or sometimes feel swimmy headed and dizzy. Nothing serious because it would wear off but why ad more syptoms to the ones we already have. There's an app you should try if you have a smartphone. I would post it but moderator will not let me. It helped me keep a close journal of everything daily. Then you can go back next month and see how you felt and what you took for those symptoms, til you learn your body and what it requires. Hope I'm helping in some way. Oh, and pray alot it's a good meditation time and we need that going through all these crazy times in our life!
Be blessed!

I have come across your post while i have been searching for answers to my strange freezing symptoms.......I have altered freezing senations , the freezing sensation becomes so cold it stings..... they can last for hours and can be in random areas, it is persistent and occurs everyday......Firstly I noticed it in my lower legs below the knee, it has also been in my ankles but never my feet, in my buttock and upper thigh. It is mostly bilateral on both sides. Also in my face and tingleing on my tongue. I have had it in my skull. It is the most disconcerting feeling. I am post menopause I am 28 days into HRT with very little improvement. I have seen a Rhumatologist who has ruled out any sinister auto immune disorders, I have had countless blood tests all with good results. I have seen a Neurologist and had a Brain MRI with nothing negative to report. I am at my wits end. My doctors are at a loss to know what it could be. I am an otherwise very healthy 50 year old woman. I have had these symptoms since July 2016 . I would love to hear back from you and hear how you are going, or if you have any answers ? Best Wishes Sharon

I have had that severe cold for a few years . And like you no answers. From Drs. But from been on this site I have learned it's all part of hormonal chsnge. I would get so cold across my shoulders , it felt like my muscles were so tight it was restricting my breathing . Frightening the life out of me. I would have to get in the bed to warm up. And then j would be grand again. I actually bought a fan heater last year so if I came in from shopping or something . I could turn it on for instant heat. But I now also find a hot water bottle is brilliant to. Heard me up fast. Come in from town frozen boil the kettle , fill the bottle and again with in minutes Iam all warmed up. I dread he winter coming again as its ten times worse, but at least I have my 2 ways of quick heat. But I have also been walking for the last few weeks. And I find because I get so hot walking. It takes so long to cool down. That I don't have the cold problem. So although the you may not feel like it. Really your best bet is too keep moving. 😝 and the body will heat it's self.

Hi Sharon
I'm sorry your having the freeze attacks! They are the worst and when it's 90 degrees out, and your in the sun feeling good, but your family looks at you like your nuts...ya that can become an issue in life lol. I have honestly just been on flaxseed and chia seeds since I quit going to my doctor about all my symptoms and them not finding anything. They always want to diagnose you with panic attacks or anxiety...which I am having neither of. I have always been a very calm person never being a mother to freak out over blood, or a broken bone, or an ER visit to the hospital with any of my children, but the doctors will actually make you feel you have them after you leave the office. They have prescribed me xanax and Lord know what else. It goes in a basket in my cabinet because i domt want any pills to add to my other symptoms or feel drugged all day.
I have always been in tune with my body. I think that to start, is the best way to help us cope with peri/meno. We can read all the advice online or Google but until we learn what works for ourselves nothing will help. I started on the forum years ago and always read about everyone taking b6. Well b6 made my eyes feel strained like they was bugging out of my head, so I knew I couldn't take it like everyone else. I hope I'm making a little sense lol.
I keep a daily journal on my phone that's has an app on it. It helps me to go back and see what symptoms I had last month so the month I'm in, I don't freak out about it. It's a peace of mind sorta that helps remind me that no new symptoms are starting. If we could relax our minds to tell ourselves, this is normal and it's a part of our lives that God intended for us to go through, we could take one day at a time with a little more ease.
Stress and no sleep plays a huge part in how we feel. I used to could feel good with 4-6 hrs of sleep now after 5 years into peri, I'm lucky if I feel good with 9 hrs. And I'm only 45! When I loose sleep from watching my grandkids over the weekend, I seriously set myself up for failure! I need a week to recoup and that's so out of my character but I just figure it's part of going through the change.
I still get cold spells here and there but nothing like I did 2 years ago. I would loose the feelings in my toes and feet, and I thought it was a circulation issue, but the doctors proved me wrong about that one to. Im not sure how your doctor goes about what hormone your dominant in and how they determine your HRT, but my gyno wanted to put me on birth control, and I refused. The birth control was nothing but estrogen. Well... I thought, how does she know if I'm low in estrogen?! She didn't have a test to figure that out... so if I'm low in progesterone and they give me more estrogen...I'm basically going to be in an even worse state then I was. Then I figured, If we don't go through all the symptoms now, we will go through them after the doctor takes us off, and that could be worse off on your body going through it at 60, verses 50 while we still have energy to do it.
My Aunt was sharing her experience about HRT and she was 41 when she started and they took her off at 50 for a year, and she was so bad she couldn't cope without them. They put her back on at 51, and the doctors had to monitor her because it could cause strokes. She's now 61 and hates how she feels but she can't ever be back on HRT. I'd rather be young and get it over with personally, but I know some just can't cope and have to have them.
The Chia seeds has really helped me get through some rough cold spells. I have them in my purse, in a little pill container, and next to my bed in a baggie. I never leave my house without either of my seeds , since we never know what symptoms will pop up out of nowhere.
You can read on them in a search online. I'm hoping I've helped you in some way. These days we endure aren't fun, but with lots of prayer and knowledge about it, we can set our minds at ease, and cope through life better.
Hugs to you & be blessed !

You have said a mouthful and i appreciate it. May i ask how much flaxseed and chai seeds you take. I just dont have the energy. I'm like you could function on 4 to 6 hrs of sleep i think i need 12 or more now. I cant sleep through the night because im up peeing at least 3 times a night. I come home from work and take a 2 hr sleep not nap and thats the best sleep i get. Solid sleep. Thanks for the encouragement. My ob dr said he didnt recommend the hrt and im glad he didnt push it on me. He said he could give me zoloft for hot flashes if i wanted it. I chose not to. But he told me to try soy milk. I have heard that its bad for you but i think its been working. My body doesnt agree with a lot of medication either. Ive had a rough year and 1 month. Feeling a little better i hope it passes by fast. My last period was july 31st so i hope it stays gone for a year. Once again thanks for the encouragement

Hi Carmen
I started off taking about 1/4 tsp. Of the seeds. I'm down to a sprinkle of them here and there when I feel bad. If it doesn't seem to help the symptoms within 15 min, it may not be enough or I'm actually needing the other seeds at that time.
This is why a journal is so important when you start. What works for my 103 lb body at 5'2, maybe different for your body type.
There are a few menstrual cycle calendars, you can print for free, from some online websites. It helps a lot!
Hugs & be blessed!!

A weigh a lot more than you so i know i will need more than a sprinkle. 😊 i found one calendar and it ask every day what are my symptoms. Do you add the seeds to anything or just eat them by themselves.

Hi Sharon
I realize this is a very old thread, but I was wondering if you ever discovered what was causing your cold feelings?
I am having exactly the same symptoms. Severe cold different places on my body. Sometimes it's my arm, sometimes my leg, sometimes my skull, sometimes in more places than one. And when it's really bad, it gets so cold it hurts.
It varies in intensity but it is present to some degree every day.
It is so frustrating.
