Perimenopause severe coldness?? Anyone

 Hello Ladies !

I get these cold spells once a month. They are usually before my periods. My hormones are over the place right now being in perimenopause for 4 yrs now. I started to get these cold days where they was bearable in my first year. I would wake up at night and be chilled to the bone. I couldnt find anything to keep me warm. They have now turned into being so severely cold that it makes my toes sting sometimes...almost like when I was little girl playing in the snow too long. My bodie feels like I could catch the flu at any time but Im not sick with any other symtoms. My leg will go numb at times on these days.. like from the knees down to my feet. Some days I have tingling in my face around my cheeks and chin along with my hands and part of my wrist feeling tingling like it will go numb at any minute. Im not anxiuous or feeling any anxiety at these times either. I have had anxiety with my Peri but these are not the same things going on. I have seen so many doctors and no one can find anything wrong. I aslo have days during the month as if I have asthma. My chest gets so tight it hurts my jawline and my neck tightens. I have even seen an Endocrinologist an had my blood tested for any thyroid problems but they said everything looked normal. Any ladies out there with the same problems so I know its more hormones then a serious problem??? Does it ever go away after menopause?? Please let me know what youve tried that works. I CANT use HRT Ive had an ablation for Tachycardia and anything strong gives me bad heart palpitations. Maybe someone has tried a natural method that may help. Thanks Ladies !!!

I cannot believe after years of Drs visits, feeling like I am going mad, I have finally reached other woman who suffer these awful 'natural' symptoms.  I was diagnosed with endometritus when I was younger, had my darling daughter through ivf and have suffered with girlie problems all my life. As such I always knew this time of life wasn't going to be easy, but OMG this is rough.  I am 47 and having thrown a wobbly in the Drs last year they finally tested me for perimenopause, and yaay that's where I am.. I have been on fluoxetine for many years but this does little now for my monthlys. The cold, internal body tremors, shortage of breath, no energy, cotton wool head, dizziness etc are now making me lose  time from work.  The Drs answer was to increase my fluoxetine dose, which I tried, and couldn't function full stop with so I had to go back onto my standard dose. I am now looking at the minefield that is the herbal market.  Can anyone recommend a multivitamin range based on my main symptoms above, the cold and body tremors are the worse... Thank you all for being so open and honest and if nothing else confirming I genuinely am not going mad ...

      Hi Louise -

Anything you can do to support the adrenals - there are adrenal day formulas, and night ones. At night is when our bodies repair, so that will help you in the next day, also. I use essential oils, especially ecualyptus, to help me breathe, and carry them in my purse. Rub in your hands, cup them over your face and breathe in deeply, smell them, or diffuse them. Or, I just rub it right on my nose when it gets really congested. Some may need to use a carrier oil, like olive or almond oil, bc it can be strong. I get the internal tremors too and absolutely don't like those, they scare me. From everything I've read, I think it may be the nervous system thrown off-balance, so the B Vitamins (real methyl B's, not the man-made ones). Also magnesisum in pill form (there are different types you can research) and/or a magnesium spray that gets right in. Ashwaghanda is also a great balancer; I've been taking that before bed and it seems to be helping. Or any kind of herbal sleep aid like melatonin or combinations. Hope this helps and no, you are not going mad! I also tell myself to breathe deeply, and try to ignore the feeling, knowing it will pass.

Hello Louise and everyone else following this thread .

I also have the most extreme chills. Always in the night . I wake from my sleep and my body is soaked in sweat but I’m so cold . It’s not like an external cold whereby you can warm your hands or feet; I’m actually chilled to the bone . My hands and arms start tingling and I shake uncontrollably . I somehow manage to run to the bathroom, put the fan heater on and put my dressing gown hood up and stand there under the full blast of heat until my temperature regulates again . The closest thing I’ve ever had to this cold feeling was a rigour attack once when I had a bad womb infection after my second child . It is truly weird and I think it’s a form of hyperthermia .

I’m also on a antidepressant ... Seroxat ... sister to  Fluoxetine and my doctor also increased my dosage but like you this made matters worse . So I went back to my previous dosage. I then went onto HRT and that’s created more problems than it’s solved so I’m coming off that now . I suffer anxiety , can’t sleep very well . My dreams are prolific and apparently I am now quite verbal and distressed in them as I manage to wake the house up shouting in my sleep . It’s now been 3 years for me in this sorry state . I am 53 and I feel like it’s going to go on forever . I’m tired of trying to find answers . I’ve tried it the natural way and the hrt way and neither works for me . I also developed alopecia last year which was a ball . So not only did I feel bad on the inside I felt like i looked awful on the outside . Those damn  hormones hey !

I do find myself wondering why we have to endure such a rotten time at this stage of our lives . Evolutionary wise I can’t see it serves a pupose apart from torment .

I'm so sorry Sally, I know how you feel. Like another user said on here (iamhealth), anything we can do to support the hypothalamus, which is apparently the master control of most all our body functions, including temperature and balance in various body systems. Have you tried taking an adrenal night formula, GABA, magnesium, or B vitamins (the methyl Bs)?

      Hi Julie

Thanks for taking the time to read my thread . Tbh it all seems a bit of a minefield to me . I have tried various health products, however I have never come across your suggestions, apart from vitamin B which I did take however I’m not sure if it was the methyl B’s . I do know I bought a good brand with a decent dosage . I will definitely  look into this in the morning as it’s 1.30 am and I’m just beginning to think i may be able to sleep . Fingers crossed and all that .

Thanks again and i will definitely give them a go .

Julie thank you for your response, in desperation I went to pharmacist for help and have now been given an  over the counter known/ recommended for our  age tablet to try, with the advice it may take 3 months to get into system and I should go back to Drs.  I can't afford to lose any more time from work so I am hoping the psychological aspect of being on something at least and most importantly the support and' at last' understanding I am not suffering these symptoms alone may start an improvement xxx

Sally, a huge thanks for replying and sharing your story too.  It is an awful time of our lives and so frustrating that there is nothing that appears to help' our symptoms' readily available, other than in our cases upping our meds or HRT which can often react to antidepressants.  I know I can no way function daily without my fluoxetine so the thought of possibly having to change this to take HRT isn't something I can even consider at the moment.  I am so sorry you have further suffered with  alopecia, I am no Dr but suffering from anxiety which I  personally know is heightened by my own current symptoms , cannot have helped.  My own mother was unfortunate to suffer alopecia in her teens , they then used to blame it on stress and anxiety.

It is like being on a hamsters wheel.  I know I need to exercise,  but I hardly have any energy to function with the daily basics yet alone exert the bit of energy I have on something I know drains me.  I don't eat too unhealthy but can have fits of biscuit binging and I know I do drink too much wine...  I currently am doing the only things I know how to to keep me going, not ideal but as you say... damn hormones.

I'm so sorry Louise, I know how rough it can be. I can remember dragging myself to the store, feeling so sick, when I was worse, just tryingto find some over the counter item that would work. Just curious, what did the pharmacist recommend? Estroven? I have used that, too, with some success, as far as energy. There are different formulations, some for energy, some for clear thinking, etc. I also had bought Amberen, which is supposed to help your body make its own hormones and sounds valid, but have been too afraid to try it while using HRT too. I find the pharmacists know alot more about drugs than the doctors, so if I want to know something about a drug, I ask them. And you don't  need an appt or have to pay for it, ha! But you really have to watch out for the anti-anxiety and depression drugs, bc many of those are addictive and they don't tell you, and if you just abruptly stop taking them without weaning off, it is very dangerous. I hope what he recommended helps. When I get the anxiety, or whatever it is, it almost always starts when I lay down to go to sleep, I don't know why. Then it makes it hard to sleep because you have anxiety over the anxiety, or like I said, whatever the (unwelcome) sensations are.

I love England! Worked there off and on. Mildenhall Air Force base. There was a wonderful little English pub there, and got to do some sight-seeing too.

I’ve been to Mildenhall a few times . I have a lot of family in the states and one of my American cousins worked their .

Lots of nice pubs here but equally lots of awful ones too lol .

Wow, have had ALL of those symptoms, Mimi. Had to double check that I didn't write it! Im 46, started year and a half ago. Before that it was nothing, just very light periods a few years. I, too, wonder when this will ever end.

Ugh, hope not. Been better than I was, so grateful for that, but been depressed off and on thinking, is this how the rest of my life is going to be? Checking the weather, carrying around this stockpile of essential oils with me, taking a jillion supplements, checking the daily allergies, going to the doctor for this and that, needing money every month for another hormone script, and wondering if it's the right dosage, having little energy, drive or motivation (which affects everything in your life), and on and on. That's my life.
