Perimenopause severe coldness?? Anyone
Posted , 66 users are following.
Hello Ladies !
I get these cold spells once a month. They are usually before my periods. My hormones are over the place right now being in perimenopause for 4 yrs now. I started to get these cold days where they was bearable in my first year. I would wake up at night and be chilled to the bone. I couldnt find anything to keep me warm. They have now turned into being so severely cold that it makes my toes sting sometimes...almost like when I was little girl playing in the snow too long. My bodie feels like I could catch the flu at any time but Im not sick with any other symtoms. My leg will go numb at times on these days.. like from the knees down to my feet. Some days I have tingling in my face around my cheeks and chin along with my hands and part of my wrist feeling tingling like it will go numb at any minute. Im not anxiuous or feeling any anxiety at these times either. I have had anxiety with my Peri but these are not the same things going on. I have seen so many doctors and no one can find anything wrong. I aslo have days during the month as if I have asthma. My chest gets so tight it hurts my jawline and my neck tightens. I have even seen an Endocrinologist an had my blood tested for any thyroid problems but they said everything looked normal. Any ladies out there with the same problems so I know its more hormones then a serious problem??? Does it ever go away after menopause?? Please let me know what youve tried that works. I CANT use HRT Ive had an ablation for Tachycardia and anything strong gives me bad heart palpitations. Maybe someone has tried a natural method that may help. Thanks Ladies !!!

Hi all,
So I hadn't had my period for 6 months, then I randomly got it after 6 months and on the last day of my period I noticed that I had a weird sensation on my lower lip that comes and goes... it felt as though it was numb however I undergoed many tests to ensure I could feel what was being brushed on my lip so it wasn't a loss of feeling rather tingling sensations only when I touched my lip. I'm also feeling quite cold throughout my feet, and legs however my it isn't cold to touch on the outside.. I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms and can this be a due to perimenopause or menopause! I'm constantly going through hot flushes, mood changes and dizziness/imbalanced etc..

Hi Mimi,
Hope you will get this as I see your post is three years old. I have had MANY of the EXACT same symptoms, and same predicament. Numerous docs now over a year and they all say 'anxiety,' or 'panic disorder.' I know my body and know I'm not in a constant state of panic!! Really? It's been so frustrating. Various degrees of mild to debilitating systemic symptoms of all kinds that come and go in severity, along with ER visits. They're starting to use the word 'anxiety' before they even examine me. With many hospitals going to online portal systems, they can all access your records. So I really feel for you. It is frustrating having a complete stranger (doctor) trying to tell you what they think is going on in your own body and act like they're the authority over your body or know something you don't. I've been about ready to just succumb and agree. They can't find anything wrong either.

I've been getting chilling cold spells once a month for a few years now. I figured it was perimenopause because of it's faithfulness to come every month at the same time! The first time I got the chills was the worst. It was so sudden and so bad I screamed and dropped what I had in my hand and ran to my husband to bundle me. I was chattering so badly he could barely understand me. Since then they have been much milder in their approach. I do have a suggestion! I immediately fill up a large mug with water and heat it in the microwave. Warm clothes, socks.. and an electric blanket. If I do this they will be gone within 30 minutes. If I I have to live with it it can last for hours. It usually comes on just before bedtime and I usually wake up in the middle of the night drenched with sweat. Probably from the electric blanket being on so high, but I do have to say I feel great the next day from all the sweating. Hope this helps somebody!

Hi Mary, how are you? I've had so many symptoms. Panic attacks, anxiety, low mood, acid reflux, bloating, weight gain, then weight loss, crawling skin, pin prick stinging sensations in skin, lower back pain, pains in wrists and feet etc....... just awful. How have you been doing?

Hi Deirdre, sometimes i feel that I am
the only one who is having these severe symptons daily. How long have you been having all your symptoms? As for me, I have been going at it since March, and I hear others say, oh it's going to get better. Well, Im still waiting for better days
I am desperate now Deidre, I didnt want to do HRT but i have no choice. Ive tried everything else from biodentical to all sort of supplements and now Im doing acupuncture. It makes me wonder if its making it worse. i was not having stomach issue anymore until I started the acunpunture. Have you tried taking anything?

I'm sorry Mary, its, tough. Been going thru it over a yr now, many doctors, many supplents, bio identicals, ER visits, scans, etc and hve had some relief but not completely.
Have you had the internal shaking? I don't like it, and usually it shows up only at night, like after I lay down to sleep.
We are all here for you, and each other.

Yes Julie I usually get the internal shakes early upon waking. I hate it , makes me feel like screaming please stop! My left leg is usually cold but this morning it decides to be numb instead. Yes, I do take vitamin B's but Im not good about taking them every day. The magnesium was working wonders for me until i switched to the kind a lady on the forum recommended. (glycinate) I see no results in these. It may work for her but not for me. The reason I switched was to reduce my restroom trips. Which kind are you taking?

Wow so you have it, too. Yes it feels so weird. Just saw a 2nd neurologist, who said she doesn't know what to tell me but it's not parkinsons or anything like that.
Methyl B's are best, vs the lab-made kind, especially B6, 12, 1,2 and 5. Lately I've been taking those Bs when I start feeling the shakung sensation and it does help. I really think its got to be due to our nervous system being out of balance, and our hormones control that.
I like just got the glycine form to try. Just took last night and slept pretty good, but too soon to tell. There are sev forms of magnesium so google them and try a different kind, like taurate til you find one that works.
I'm 47, all this started over a yr ago last summer, and my life has been all about dr visits, supplements, visiting pharmacy, dealibg with medical bills, etc. That, I don't like.
I also need a lot more sleep. Or, have had insomnia. And zilch for motivation.
And I get a falling or pause kind of sensation, like my body system is going to stop working and I'm going to pass out and die, but my BP is always normal when I go to the dr. You ever had that?
Be careful about meds. The doctors try to give you this and that, and def try to push the anxiety diagnosis and pills on you. Most are addictive and dangerous.
Also had asthma like isues that hve pretty much gone, thank goodness, and allergis including pressure in my head and nose something awful. I keep essential oils with me which helps. Have spent a small fortune on remedies.
Since I started using bio identical hormones separately, one at a time, I got my period again and started to feel better. Haven't seen Aunt Flo since tho again, but I combined two of them again for convenience, so maybe that's why.
Lately the biggest prob is the down there area ha. Wish dryness was the only issue, but have external itchy, tingly feelings, red, inflamed, uncomfortable, and even some pain and pressure like feelings. Have tried sev things including anti fungals, now on anti bacterial etc and not seeing any change, which has been extremely discouraging and affected my confidence. Have you or any other ladies had these issues and tried something that works?
I did just get some probiotics that are for women, hope that helps.
Keep checking the site, it will help you. Certainly has me, when I've been up all night and can't sleep, and cant get any answers or help from the doctors.

Hi Mary, sorry for delay in replying. I think I started 3 years ago (I was on the pill and started getting pin prick stinging sensations and crawling skin) and slight anxiety.......I came off the pill then 2 and a half years ago to see if it was my pill causing my issues (I was 33 then)then within a month I had gained extra weight, my breasts were heavy and swollen painful, I never had big breasts so I was enjoying it but just when my first period off the pill was due I got chest pains and numbness in my hands..... I never experienced anything like it. I was so scared-emergency doctor said it was a panic attack. Chest pain lingered for an entire year. I was told acid reflux, tender muscles etc, the. A year later just before a periodi woke up with the internal shakes and jitters,! My world fell apart that day. It was awful. I jad no idea what was happening to me. I kept telling the doctors I was sure it was hormones. They wouldnt say yes or no, instead they sent for test after test. They gave me anxiety meds too which sent me crazy . I just wanted them to say yes it was hormones but because i'm young they wouldnt acknowledge it. It was through my endless googling that I foind perimenopause that the pieces started to fit together. I'm srill miserable but I got a new job and forced myself out to work. I cry daily about the way I am. On days off I just want to curl up alone. There are nights I've gone to bed not xaring if I wake which is awful because I have so much to live for. But this is a horrible way to be. I love my family and have so much to keep going for and I pray every day that god will pull me through. Today, I'm shaking and jittery and cant think sttaight but its sunny outside and that is hrlping mood wise. I wish I could snap out of this hell but I guess nature must take its course.

I am at the point that i dont know what else to do. Well right now, I got my Bible out to read. Ive tried every pill, dr., teas, counseling, you name it. I got up to walk and came in from walking and shaking like a leaf on a tree. You mentioned that you have gone to neurologist , how do they test and what do they look for? This anxiety is overboard, its hard for me to function. I was doing the taurine and it worked some. I will go out and get more magnesium. My stomach trembles constantly. Its weird that late evenings i start feeling better. I went through the dryness earlier when it hit, but it was briefly. The dr. thought it was UTI and gave me antibiotics which triggered my stomach issues. Its a mess going through this....God help us all.

So sorry Mary, but I undertsand and am here to listen and be a friend. Yes, when all else fails, give God a try. He says He will never leave or forsake us. Sometimes, I even sleep with my Bible because it comforts me. He made our bodies, so He is only one who really knows what's going on in there. And He says he knows each one of our days b efore they even came to pass.
First neurologist tried to give me an addictive anti-anxiety pill. Did no testing, other than the touch your finger to your nose, etc. thing. And I waited months for that appt and drove to another state! Second one last week, did the same touch your nose, etc. tests, then said she couldn't find anything neurolgically wrong. She did refer me for a sleep study, which i've been trying to get for months, but my insurance may run out before I can get in.
Have you seen a neurologist yet? If not, make an appt so you can at least put your mind at ease. Just don't let them put you on addictive meds like Lorezapam, Ativan, Clonopin, Xanax, etc. (yes, tons of pple take this last one but if you just stop taking it without weaning off, it can kill you, and some of the others are as addictive as street drugs, but a doctor will never tell you that). I just got something called Anxiety and Stress by Victorious You that seems to have all of the heavy-hitter, good anxiety herbs in it, and also Ashwaghanda, which is super for the adrenals and stress by Havasu. You can get both on amazon.
Also, get you some real essential oils from the health food store, like lavender/stress blends (not the fake fragrance ones), rub in your hands then cup your face and breathe it in for sev seconds. Or rub on back of your neck. Keep them in your purse.
On the magnesium, you can also try the spray, that goes right into your body bc its going through the skin. I use that too sometimes to help me relax. Do you take probiotics? We should all be taking these because our bodies are a complex microfloria and its gets imbalanced by everything, and our guts are inexplicably linked to our brains, adn so our entire health is based on our microflora health. I would get these from your local health food store, not a retail or grocery store. I had terrible constipation, until I tried sbo probiotics (soil based organisms). Fixed it within 30 days. But I still have to take them to stay regular. Right now, I'm on an antibiotic for 'those' issues and its messing my gut up, so I'm trying to remember to take the probiotic in between doses.
Be good to get your cortisol levels checked, too. Best way is through a saliva test where you collect saliva four times that day. You'll have to find a doctor in your area who can order it. Funny that your shaking gets better at night; mine shows up mostly at night! Although I did have some this morning. Just weird!
Hope this helps. Keep me posted. I will be praying for you if you'd like me to.

Thank you Julie, Lord knows I need all the prayer I can get. Well, can you believe I'm already using everything you suggested except for the Anxiety and Stress, i only use the Ashwaghanda tincture and motherwort tincture. Yes, it is weird, everything die down in evening. It use to be around 6 ut now I noticed tbe time us later maybe around 8. Around this time Iusually get this increased appetite where i cant get enough to eat. How ironic for you to mention about cortisol, because my herbalist keep insisting that tbe reason nothing seem to be helping for me because its an adrenal issue. I definately needs to get it tested. My acunpuncture tells me that its emotions that have been repressed inside too long which usually escalates during menopause. I actually cried yesterday during my treatment but I had no idea why I was
Later on, i found out i was releasing emotions and its all part of healing.
I also think that my stomach is irritated from the gastritis again. I have an appt with GI doctor which could be triggering some symptons. I discovered in my left lower back right near buttock , i can feel a pea size thing under the skin. A bit over to left I can feel a bit larger one more rounder. I know my back hurts alot so I dont know if thats the case or not. I was doing chiropractor treatment and i would complain about mu low back pain . He did xrays and said i had a little arthritis back there, but at the time i hadnt discovered this. My hubby says i worry too much.

How are you doing Mary? Wow that is very interesting about repressed emotions coming out at menopause!
Once I did a series of Rolfing, which is very deep tissue massage, that's supposed to release all kinds of stuff, and it did! I could even smell smoke during one session, and I'm not a smoker. Maybe from clubbin' days? lol I believe in accupuncture, but when I tried it, I had a very bad day the next day, or have had severe, sharp nerve pain where they put the needles.
I have been watching doctor john bergman on utub, a chiropracter, and wow he is so brilliant about the body, how it works. check him out. watching one right now where he explains how the nervous system controls all the other body systems - hormones, etc., and we have to have it checked/realigned, because its the power source and function of our organs and body systems. And if we're stuck in the parasympathetic state - fight or flight - it can cause the anxiety and all kinds of issues, which modern medicine just tries to fix with a pill, that does nothing, or gives you side effects. I've seen two neurologists, who both can't explain the internal shaking and say I'm fine. One tried to give me an addictive anti-anxiety drug. No way! Some of those are no safer or different than street drugs. Not good to get started on.
I forgot to tell you also about magnesium spray for relaxing, too. Just spray it on.
I have some Motherwort, read great things about it, need to go back to it again.
Didn't sleep most of night last night, was just fine, but laid down to sleep, and it started again. I sprayed some essential oils in my hands, cupped over my face and breathed in deeply and that did seem to help.
May I ask how old are you and have you had a hysterectomy or oopherectomy? That makes a big difference with where you're at hormonally, and associated symtpoms, too.
On the adrenals, I've read the best thing to do is get as much sleep or rest as you can (I know, difficult if you work full time and have young kids), and real good sleep at night, because that's how your body restores and repairs itself. Taking an adrenal supplement specifically for at night is good. And some melatonin.
I'm going to look into supplements that calm the nervous system, and nervine essential oils that specifically do that. Lavender, of course, is one of the main ones, but there are several others. Vetiver is another, or vervain, but, oh, the smell! It's intense.

I understand. Mine hasn't been as bad lately thank goodness. I got cortisol levels checked with a saliva test and it showed it was high at night, when it's supposed to be low. So it was suggested by my chiro to try Cortisol Manager, which has things that help your body relax. I also take Ashwaghanda and Maca, which are natural balancers. Relora is also good for cortisol/stress. Do you have a health food store near you? If not you can order the cortisol manager on amazon.
Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you Julie. I must say that i've been relieved of the severe symptoms. Haven't visited my herbal doc in a while. For most parts i'm doing much better. A question here: does anyone experience a flip flop feeling of the heart sometimes? It's as if the heart does a dance for a second. So scary!! It comes on around the time of ovulation or when menstruation begins.
