Pet Names for our PMR?

Posted , 13 users are following.

I ran into a friend yesterday that I hadn't seen for 6 months and she asked me how I was feeling. I started my sentence with "My stupid polymyalgia..."  I realized afterwards that I never just refer to it as "my polymyalgia", but always preface it with "stupid". Made me laugh when I thought about it. I guess it's better and more socially acceptable than calling it my "f-ing PMR", which is what I really think of it! lol Just for a fun discussion today that doesn't revolve about the painful aspects of our "stupid PMR", do any of you have little pet names for your PMR??

    Ha,ha!

When I'm feeling polite, I refer to it as being my "My Wretched Condition", which sounds very British!  I've noticed though how since developing PMR, I've also developed what I describe as being Pain Tourette's.  What comes out of my mouth is an involuntary reaction to what discomfort I'm feeling!  Well that's my excuse anyway smile

Quite few people found they developed PMR Tourette's - and not necessarily in response to pain. I was very tetchy (even more so than normal) and in private my language was very Anglo-Saxon...

I was always such a good girl with my language before PMR. I now know I was saving all those words for just the right moment & "condition" in life to let loose. Luckily, I save most, especially the "f" word for when I'm having private conversations with my "stupid f-ing PMR"

My husband gets very snotty about me using the f-word. "Don't use that sort of language..." in a REALLY patronising tone. Which of course just makes me worse...

Obviously being far too medically orientated, if anyone bothers to ask why I can't do whatever I reply "I have an autoimmune arhtritis/rheumatism that affects my muscles..." - which always avoids that rubbish about osteoarthritis being the same (yes I know it hurts too but there's a difference).

Camping on a northernt Italian lake last week I met a lady from near Cockermouth who told me, as she was about to leave, that she had PMR - she only said "poly" and I completed her sentence. She was slightly flabbergasted!

I usually just say 'I have PMR' and wait for the response!!  On several occasions I have had  'I thought only women have that' !!  It's amazing how many people associate PM... with PMR?  Or is just that people think I'm an old woman!
