Hello I am awaiting a 24 hour ph manometry test I feel rather anxious about this test both about the test itself and the results!

Wondering if I have the test and then the acid results arnt that high will they still operate as I suffer with so many other side effects that really do take it out of me and effects my life I am only 27 and really do feel held back by the hernia

I had this done last week  dont worry  about levels there is a long questionnaire before  you start plus you have to stop all drugs for reflux for several days  which in my case was really discomfortable

Hi Karen, did you have the ph test or the ph impedance test done. I spoke to the hospital where my test is scheduled today and they said I wouldn't have to stop the ppis if it was too painful but I want the most honest result, so I'm not sure what to do. What kind of questions do they ask you? Plus did you have to press buttons when you got symptoms? Thanks smile

Thanks Karen. One last question, me and Braker have talked about this, but did you work at making your reflux be the worst it could be on the day of the test? I know that sometimes they tell you to 'aggravate' your condition and I'm just wondering if you did this? X

      Hi Stella

I came across this post now after a year since you posted it and I know how you feel as I have the exact same problems.

Can you please give me an update on how you are feeling right now. How was your ph testing and did you get surgery.

I am very anxious and looking forward for your reply

I have read all your posts and wondered how you fared with your tests and if you ever managed to have your operation?  Your symptoms are very like my own and having just had the manometry and ph test, I see the consultant in two weeks for the results. I really hope he agrees to operate, as like you, I am desperate to be rid of all the horrible symptoms, not to mention the lack of sleep for more than eight months. Hope Sallyann is ok too!

      Hi Carol

Hope you are well. Are you still on ppis or did you find a permanent solution for these problems as I am going through the same?

I had the 24 hr manometry done and the acidic reading wa just unbelievable. My reading was so high I take medication both morning and night. My hiatus hernis is only a small sliding one. i did find a good gastroenterologist that deals with Irritable syndrome andirritable disease. i have been put on a low FODMAP diet which is helping. My problem (which there are many that suffer from it) is food intolerance. Mineisrelatedto dairy andsugars. i cannot eat fruit becauseofthe fructose and fractans contained in them. Also a lot ofvegetables like ones with simple carbs also cause me so much discomfort. No wheat. Try to see someone who specialises in this. I live in a country town in Australia and i travelled to Sydney to see a professor who specialises in these problems. Life isvery uncomfortable. Can't eat cakes or sweet biscuits. Have rice cakes etc. Hope you take my advice.

I hope you are in the best of health. I read your posts and I have almost the exact same symotoms. Can you please be kind enough to tell me how have you been and have you had that surgery and has it helped you in anyway.

Do you think I should get the ph test done and I am scared...is it painful?

      Hi Braker

I am so sorry to hear that. I hope you have complete recovery. I am so surprised that inspite of so many advancements in medicine they haven't come up with anything better and easier.

My doctor hasn't suggested it yet. I wanted to get it done to make sure that I don't have too little acid that is causing the problem while I have been thinking the other way round. My endoscopy showed inflammation and gastritis. She told me to keep taking omiprazole till two months. But the moment I stop taking them the breathing problem starts and now with burning in my stomach.

It's been nearly 2 years and I couldn't stop taking omiprazole.
