How long do I need to keep a pillow between legs when lying on non op side. At 6 weeks review 2 weeks ago, I was told I could lie on non op side with a pillow between legs but forgot to ask how long I need to keep pillow. Also how long before if is comfortable to lie on op side.

I have been lying on non op side now since day 8 with a pillow between legs and was told by my physio that i could lie on operated side as soon as it was comfortable. Day 21 now and last night laud on operated side for a while. Best to ask your your physio about the pillow.

    Take care

Unfortunately no ongoing physio given here. Asked gp to refer me on July 15th. Rang physio yesterday and was told beginning of July referrals been notified this week so maybe in two weeks time I will get an appointment!!!

I am still amazed at the different advice we all get. I also have been without pillows since about week 4. I found I was turning over in the night and returning to old sleeping habits. I just went with it. I have been sleeping for a few weeks on my operated side and have done since it stopped feeling uncomfortable or stopped waking me up. I am in the same time frame as you Attractac and at my six week review he said do whatever is comfortable but no leg lifting/twisting out to the side - ever.

If your scar is still feeling like the Princess and the Pea then I would stay on the other side or maybe just do some practising on the op side and let your body find the way - don't forget you are slightly differently shaped now.

Princess and the pea describes it exactly. My knee locks when sleeping with pillow-- consultant s response to that was " well your knee is the same age as your hip" !!!

    G'Day Attractac

My body decided for me(!) at about week 5 I woke up without a pillow between my knees on my unoperated side and there was no pain or stiffness. Was very careful for a few days but now move where I like at week 6/7. Just to be clear my operated leg was over the centre line as well!

At week 8 so maybe could throw the pillow out tonight. Still sticking to the no hoovering no floor washing rule for 3 months ie excuse my floors doctors orders!!!!!

Heehee yes I am still working that excuse but it's wearing thin!

I was never told not to vacuum or wash floors. I have been doing this since week 8!  Do find vacuuming makes hip ache so do it left handed and then it's not so bad (op right leg).  Now there is one restriction I would have welcomed!!!

As for sleeping I always sleep with pillow between legs because knees not very good. I just did what didn't hurt

    hello friends,

see, i love the pilow between my legs - i had a full length body pillow in L.A., didn;t bring it with me, regretted it and just got one delivered a couple of days ago - not the same and darn expensive but happy I have something to hug - unfortunately this onje is not full size ...didn;t know what to do with my shoulders, arms - legs are paralel to each other most of the time - this is not the same as a regular head pillow between knees though -

as for the operated side, well, just try until you are comfortable -

warm hug to all on this windy, rainy day in holland

Thanks Renee. Calm but almost autumnal day here. Op side still very tender. Tried soft pillow under it but no good. I don't know what your body pillow is like???

      Blessings.

it is a little over 110 centimeter length and 35 cm diameter - firm and so huggable - i wish it was a bit longer though - my previous one was 160 centimeter long - good times !!!!!

I was told at my post op check, 6 weeks, to use the pillow until my body discarded it, that I would wake up without it for several consecutive days, and then it was time to discard it. So true, it happened and by 10 weeks I was not using a pillow
