PIP Advice Gathered in this Thread

There are lots of discussions about PIP and some contain advice. I thought we should have one place in which we can learn from each other so please offer your experience and tips of what may help.

I've found that the Work and Benefits website is very helpful! Check it out if you haven't already.

    Hi Georgia,

They are a helpful site and the membership is not bad considering all the advice there is to members.

I agree that everyone's combined, correct, advice is worth having.

Yes it might make some difference. razz

I paid for a year's membership in Work and Benefits and I've only just downloaded and printed the 80 pages of advice on filling out the forms, just in time because my membership ends in 4 days!

I've been sent the PIP form to fill out and I'm gathering evidence. Don't dread it; just get as much help and support as you can.

I downloaded the long Work and Benefits document on how to fill the PIP form in and it's so useful!

Good idea on the diary, wish I'd been keeping one.

I'm glad you think it's a good idea Susan. I thought we needed somewhere that just sticks to advice and tips so it doesn't get bogged down with other conversations and is easy to scroll down and find useful information.

Isn't this as a result of an own goal? How many times do we hear of people trying to use situations that were never even thought of when the regulations were originally drafted.

As an example we had the court cases as to whether a piece of ordinary furniture (a bed in this case) could be said to be an aid - scoring 2 extra points. There is another case going through where it was claimed and they won at a Tribunal that having false teeth constituted an aid to eating - another 2 points and another that won at a Tribunal saying that they could not use an ordinary bath but did use a shower regularly. It all hinged on 'and/or'.

To be honest I don't blame the government as the Tribunals are being led down paths that were never envisaged - all in the effort of pushing the boundaries of what the spirit of the law says and what was actually written down. Hopefully with these types of cases we get back to sensible and straight forward situations.

Does anyone know who are the best people for Mike to ask for help?

You can be reffered to Welfare Rights; I don't know much about it because I haven't been but you could google it.

Definitely worth a shot! I think we all need help with PIP. Also if you're doing something positive about it that should reduce your stress about it.
