hi debbie x sorry for late reply x i drive an automatic car so its easier x im not back in work cause my recovery is taking longer this time around x my partial only lasted ten months and i could hardly walk properly x my osteo had advanced very rapidly which left my knee joint weak and all the surrounding tissues and muscles x now i am trying to build them back up before i return to work x i work in the hospital that did both surgeries x i work in an office for 8 hours a day so moving around become virtually non excistent x dont worry if you have full knee cause i look at it that i already have head start with recovering cause i have been there before x its amazing how you cope x im sure youll b fine x

I am just wondering where you live debbie.

I had TKR 7 years ago and had an excellent consultant Matthew Oakley at Hereford Hospital.

About 20 months ago I developed an infection in the knee that was replaced.

Again I had Mr Oakley and he sorted it out. I think that he too would be nearly retiring age so I really hope I have no more problems.

Take care and keep in touch.

I did not need to have a second surgery luckily the anti biotics cleared it up.

      I am now doing fine.

Rather a long way for you to come to Hereford I'm afraid!!

Do take care and keep in touch.

Only an orthopedic surgeon can make this call (fix the PKR or do a TKR). From what I've read from being on here for over 3 1/2 years is that the recovery for either op is about the same...initially. People who get a second op may have a better or worse experience than with the first op...no way to tell in advance. The good thing is that there will be no surprises...you already know how to do this. Sucks...but you're a pro now so you have no illusions. I hope you have a quick, less stressful fix to this...

Hi Debbie you doing right getting it checked out. I know there's a lot of horror stories out there but I've had two tkr (both knees not on the same knee) and yes it's painful initially but oh so worth it. I'm 4 months past my second one and quality of life has returned. Walking without pain, yes a little stiffness but I've still got 2/3 of the recovery time to travel. I believe it's down to a good surgeon, mine was brilliant, and self determination. I ride 5k on my bike every morning gradually building up my muscles and leg strength. Good luck x

Thank you Ann. So nice to hear positve stories since so many negative. So glad you are doing well !

Do you work ? Love the 5 k bike ride each day. You are working hard at your recovery .

how was it the first few weeks for you and when could you drive ?

Ps driving was fine after the first couple of times. It was 6 weeks when the consultant agreed I could begin driving again prior to him telling me OK might have affected my insurance.

Hi Debbie no I don't work now but look after 2 of my grandchildren 4 days a week. You'll get there it takes time but it's definitely worth it. Before I had my second knee done I was really unsure what to do since my first one was horrific, wimp that I was, but so glad I went ahead. Yes there'll probably always a few niggles after all it's not my knee is it? I played netball and squash for 20 yrs as well as teaching netball and since they are both high impact sports the result was damaged knees as well as arthritis. I also have had a toe fusion and spine fusion so lots of metal replacements my granddaughter calls me her bionic nana. Good luck on your journey x

      Hi Ann

Hope you don't mind all the questions. I do work, run a business actually. Also have 4 grandchildren , all under 5. Even though I have an already busy schedule , I love to watch them and as often as I can. Every tuesday typically I have been helping my daughter out (she has the 3, one is a newborn 😃

Anyway was wondering if you are able to get up and down off the floor and able to carry them (if they are little and need carrying). I like to read with them on the floor and do get down and play on the floor with them. Although with this latest issue it is not easy and I find my self not getting down on the floor or it is a challenge. Just makes me want to cry typing this. I have had 3 great years since the surgery and feel like I am back to square one. Not quite as bad as prior as I couldn't even do stairs without hanging on the the railing for dear life.

I also was a runner my entire life which I contribute to the bad knees and all the pounding. i did many half marathons. Grrr. !!

Know I am happy just to be able to walk distances which at this time isn't happening.

thank you for all your replies . Appreciate it very much.

      Debbie xx
