Plantar Fasciitis

Hey.

I am new to this forum. I was diagnosed as having Plantar Fasciitis in both feet (with one being worse than the other) nearly 2 months ago. I do think I had it long before it was diagnosed but just put the pain down to being on my feet too much. Firstly I tried insoles in my shoes to relieve the pressure. I've recently tried a course of Naproxen (Anti Inflammatory) which also didn't work.

I am now on a waiting list for a steroid injection into the worst foot, the wait apparently is approx 1 month.

Has anyone had the steroid injection? Does it work?

I have had the Graston method done at physical therapy. It does help but having your husband or someone roll over your calfs with a wood rolling pin helps just as much. That and taping up your foot, find instructions on the internet. I still am in pain but these things do work for awhile.

Hi I had 2 steroid injections the first one was like a miracle cure it enabled me to book a trip to New York City and I walked and walked and walked with minimal discomfort....it lasted about a month, so I was booked in for the second injection....this one last a week if that sad I went to see my current Surgeon who did the ultrasound prior to the 3rd injection which was going to be done under ultrasound guidance, but it was noted that my plantar fascia had ruptured, so no more injections for me....I am having Coblation Surgery on Tuesday, my left foot is so bad that some days I use a walking stick even around the house sad   I wish you well and defnitely try the injection, and just to put your mind at rest I hate injections and believe me it isnt that bad I read some real horror stories on the web about the injections and I would recommend you concentrate on the possible positive outcome as it may work very well for you, we are all different. I've had a total of 4 injections.  Their first was to my left foot and it cured it immediately.  That was about 15 years ago.  Last year I had a total of three injections in my right foot and they did not help.  I'm not sure if something else is going on.

Hi the first injection I had was in May 2010 and I paid £60 for it and it worked for three years.  Brilliant.  Then in 2013 it came back with avengeance - when i saw the scan and saw the inflamation on the muscles I could then relate to why I had severe.  To be honest I had another injection in November 2013 but after a month or so it came back again and last May 2014 I had another injection.  It has been ok and since then I have had two knee replacements but now I have started walking again it has returned and I dont know if its just me but sometimes i am laying in bed just reading and my damn foot is playing up.  Good luck I do hope it works for you,

I have had the steroid treatment a couple times in both feet. The first one worked less than 8 hours the second didn't work at all. I had pf surgery done left foot 3 months ago worked so good I had my right one done 2 months ago. I had laparoscopic done off work one week. Feels 100% better. Still have a little pain but nothing like before.

I had a steroid injection two weeks ago for a very stubborn and painful attack of  plantar fasiisis in my left foot which made going anywhere an ordeal. I could hardly walk.Thankfully after a week or so the cortisone started to kick in. The pain is greatly reduced and although my walking is still an effort and by no means as it should be , I can certainly walk further than before with less difficulty and pain. Would highly recommend.

    Hi all.

I posted about a year ago explaining the situation with my plantar in my left foot and all the procedures tried i.e. 6 steroid injections and contemplating surgery. I have suffered the agonising pain as most of you have for 5 years.

The good news. By chance, I went to see a podiatrist who as it happens has olympic athletes as clients, anyway she made impressions of the soles of my feet using ink tray and paper and checked out my gait and walk. She discovered that I had been running and walking out of synch and that one hip was a few millimeters higher than the other. Bottomline is that she made me implants togointomy shoes and trainers (Basic trainers with NO cushioning, this is important to remember) same with the shoes, just flatsoled shoes. The implants do all the work. The material she used was discovered from the NASA space programme and the material absorbs all impact of the foot with the road surface.

At first it felt really weird when walking and of course I still had pain, but after 6 weeks the pain started to diminish and after 3 months I was pain free for the first time in 5 years. I am back running and averaging 10k each day and I've lost 10kg in weight. I can't tell you what this means tome and I know for certain that allof you in this thread are enduring excrutiating pain, therefore I advise all togo and see a podiatrist, tell himor her about the NASAmaterial which absorbs impact and ask them to make an individual pair for you. Mine cost me 150 Euros here in Italy and although it was only my left foot which was the problem, my podiatrist made one for myright foot too.

So,there you are this ismy story and I hope that it will help you all to eradicate Plantar Faciitis

      Hi Jamie

Many thanks for the update, I'm so pleased you have found some relief. I have insoles but not with this material which sounds more comfortable so I will see if it's known in the UK too.

Hope you stay well, it's good to hear some positive news as it can get a bit depressing trying to find a solution!

Next time I see this podiatrist, I will ask her to give me the name of the NASA material Vnic. Sorry not to have replied sooner, I have not been on line for ages.

Yes, although this reply may be a little late.  I was put out for steroid injections and manipulation of foot 2 months ago.  The injections only lasted three weeks if that.  I am now going back to the surgeon and see what else he can do for the pain.

I would never have injections in the foot again.  I'm told it may work better on other areas of body, shoulder, etc.

I too suffered from this for about 7 months off and on until the last 3 months have been awful. I did the anti inflammatory pills that did nothing for me. Today, I finally was able to get the shot and I cannot tell you what a relief it is! I was so used to walking with a limp that I have spent part of my day training my brain to not limp because my foot no longer hurts! Unfortunately, it doesn't work on everyone, but I say it is worth the try!! My doctor sprayed some freeze stuff on my heal and the shot was practically painless!! I cannot emphasize enough the change even in my mood! Did not realize the toll being in pain every day was actually taking on my overall wellbeing! I say go for it!! Hope you have the same results as me!!

well i had this injection 3 days ago into the heel of my foot. i have since found out that you are not meant to have it in the heel. which i will inform the doctor who done it. my foot feels like its on fire. it doesn't hurt quite so much. i already wear inserts in my shoes  as well as insoles.makes  trainers a bit softer .but am still in pain..i use frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel each night..never had this before but think i done the damage when i changed from winter trainers to karrimor summer ones (less support) and then walked 4 miles in them... but have always done this so i can't see why this has happened..
