Please help - Rash on glans won't go away

Posted , 21 users are following.

Hello,

4 months ago I received unprotected oral sex from a lady who told me she was "clean".

Her mouth appeared clean with no sores or blisters.

A week later I started having terrible burning on my scrotum, perineum and thighs, and my glans turned red (looks like a rash with a few pimplesFile size is too big).File size is too big

The burnings lasted about 15 days and faded, but the glans has remained red and unchanged all this time.

I applied clotrimazole, coconut oil, purell... Everything but nothing changed.

I tested negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea.

Do you have an idea of what it could be?

The big unknown here is whether the symptoms you experienced were or were not connected to the oral sex. I am no expert on the incubation period for orally acquired STD / STI's but my guess would be a week would be a little too long for most infections.

I think the best medical professional for you to see would be a Dermatologist, particularly one specialising in Genital Skin Disorders - my suggestion would be to contact any sexual health service or center and ask how you can contact one of these. If you live in or near a major city the larger Sexual Health Centres may have a Dermatologist based there as part of a team of specialists.

The potential treatment you may be given is a steroid based ointment that also has anti- fugal- and bacterial elements to it, but as it is a steroid it will help your skin recover, whereas something like clotrimazole will only basically deal with the infection.

The situation that may have arisen with the skin of the glans has become intolerant to almost anything that it is in contact with that has a chemical base - my suggestion is that this situation takes many years to come about, but can be down to constant exposure to soap and other forms of body wash such as shower gel, in the main.

This then lowers the ability of the very sensitive skin on the glans of the penis to be able to deal with other things it is in contact with and what you experienced 4 months ago may have become a tipping-point and basically anything that the glans can react to is maintaining the irritated appearance you currently have.

I will post part of one of my guides below of the different kinds of things you must avoid having contact with both your glans and your foreskin in particular.

Please update your Forum Post here after you have seen a Dermatologist .....

    .

Penile Hygiene Regime to Combat Specific Problems

    .

The best approach is not to use ANY SOAP on the Glans / Head of your penis - wash with water only EVERY time you have urinated, after sexual arousal, and ejaculation. If you are not circumcised, protect the Glans of your penis every time you take a shower by drawing the foreskin as far forward as you can, then wash everywhere else, thoroughly rinse off all the gels / shampoo and suchlike, then expose your glans wash it with the water only using the inside of your hand, then each time you have washed it you must make sure to 100% pat dry immediately afterwards with a clean towel that only you use.

    .

After you have put this in place and you still have the situation going on you need to look at what else your penis is coming into contact with on a fairly regular basis.  The likely suspects are:-

    • any chemical compounds such as skin cream / lotions, baby oil, oil based lubes, chemicals inside condoms (e.g. easy-on and spermicides) you need to exclude these one by one to discover the culprit, the easiest approach is to exclude everything to start with, then once things are on the mend, introduce each individual item to discover what has caused this in the first place.
    • if non of these make any difference you need to look to things such as washing powder in which you wash your clothes, towels, sports shorts and underwear in, in particular.  The simple alternative to washing powder is Liquid Soap Flakes, most sizeable supermarkets stock this in their own brand names - and you use this in your washing machine instead of powders or ANY fabric conditioner type additives.

      .

If all this produces no resolution to what you have, or your condition dramatically worsens, seek medical advice from a Dermatologist, or better still. a Dermatologist specialising in Genital Skin Disorders.

The redness seems to be slowly fading but this morning i woke up with this (image attached).

I am scared it might be atypical herpes. Is there a chance it is a yeast infection instead?

Best thing to do is to go get tested .....

I agree with tonysun, i've had the same looking problem over the years and it was balanitis. If you're uncircumcised (like a lot of balanitis sufferers) I wouldn't put any kind of mouthwash on your glans as it will sting like mad!

What testing have you done for herpes?

I have the exact same problem, I've had it for 3 months now and it wont go away. I've tried antifungals (oral and topical) antibiotics (oral and topical) and I've even tried a steroid cream (clobetasol). I've been to the urologist 2 times now and he finally told me to wait 2 more months but i have a feeling it wont go away. I wash my penis 2 times a day with an intimate soap that is meant for women and it helps a bit. Please, I am completely desperate.

If you have no change in circumstances once you have seen the urologist in 2 months, start a new discussion Forum in Penis Disorders and I may be able to respond .......
