hi there

i developed a patch on my leg (calf) at least 6 months ago. it has never been itchy although at times can look slightly scaly.!

i have been given cannasten by gp which didnt work, then a steroid cream which didnt work, then i was referred to dermatology at the hospital who said he didnt think it was anything to worry about and gave me the strongest steroid cream dermovate which i was to use for 1 mont and he was sure that would clear it up but it didnt.if no improvement i would be seen back for a biopsy. i finished the steroid cream course 3 weeks ago and in the last couple of days i have had redness spreading from the patch. you can probably see on the photo the darker patch in the middle which was the original patch. it is not sore or itchy in any way. and of course i cannot be seen for biopsy for who know how long with whats going on. what could this be?

Have you nicked your leg shaving or had an insect bite ?The spreading redness looks like an infection. I think you should try phoning your doctor, especially if this redness continues to spread, and especially if it travels up or down your leg or you start to feel ill.

hi Debbie no i dont shave - just wax so not a cut . i have phoned the consultants secetary and she is going to pass info on about the redness. hopefully hear back soon. redness hasnt spread any further since it appeared 2 days ago and feel totally fine in myself... just wish there was somewhere online i could consult a dermatologist online for advice that doesnt cost a fortune, i just keep trying to tell myself the consultant has seen it and wasnt alarmed so it shouldnt be anything sinister 😭
