Please Help, so scared - Bartholin Cyst

Posted , 61 users are following.

Hi

Please could someone help me! I have scared myself stupid constantly internet searching and I'm more stressed about this :-(

I'm 29 and I felt a grape sized lump just under a week ago and went to the Dr. She said it is a Bartholin cyst and I should just try and forget about it!! Trouble is a can't... The uncertainty of what it could turn into is making me a nervous wreck.

I think it is getting larger too... No pain just irritating knowing a lump is there.

I have been trying baths, compresses, silica, serrapeptase and avoiding dairy for the past few days. Haven't seen any change yet. Just wondered how long should I persevere?

I'm also confused about the bursting thing I have read about... Where does it burst from? Hopefully should it drain from the blocked duct?

I'm so worried and confused it is affecting my job and my home life.

Any advice, I would be so grateful for.

Thank you

    Hi clair

I have been having bartholins cysts from the age of thirteen I am now eighteen and still get them. My bartholins cysts usually grow to the size of an orange and they are extremely painful, I usually have to get a minor operation to remove the cyst also when I get the operation im ok for about a month without out the cyst but then it always comes back. I have tried everything but there has been one thing that has helped which is the aloe Vera gel which cleans the inside of your body. Now when I fell like the cyst is coming back I drink some of the gell and after a few days the cyst dissappears. hope it work's for you too

    Hi Claire

It's been some time since you posted so I hope you've gotten your Bartholin's cyst sorted. I got one when I was 13, and (naturally) freaked out. It was absolutely mortifying getting it checked out by my doctor, but he referred me to a gyno specialist who surgically removed the cyst. It has been ten years and I haven't had any problems since. Hope this helps :-)

Hi stephanie16195, I know this conversation took place 10 months ago but I came across it while researching Bartholdi cysts and abscesses.. I'm 13 right now and so naturally when I saw that you said you'd gotten your first one at 13, I felt so relieved! I kept thinking it wasn't normal to get it so young. Anyways, I'm freaking out because I believe I have an abscess. It's really painful and makes it difficult to walk, sit, and especially go to the bathroom. I'm so uncomfortable talking about this stuff.. I haven't told my mom yet. I'm terrified of going to the doctor, it's so embarrassing and scary! Should I tell my mom and try the sitz baths or should I be brave and go to the doctor?

Hi Mary, did you see a doctor yet?  You absolutely must go if this happens again, they can give you antibiotics which will get the abscess to drain.  Also the sitz baths should help you too. Please tell your mom, you can do it, she will be very understanding and can help you xxx

    Hi All,

Cannot believe it has been 9 months since I first wrote on here!

Just wanted to say thank you for all the kind advice and update on everything that has happened and share my eventual positive experience!

So I got a hospital referral after repeat visits to the GP and a needle aspiration which failed as reoccurred in weeks.

First hospital appointment was told it's very small which I didn't agree with. Saw another Dr who said I didn't have a cyst and it is inflammation!! Got give antibiotics. Obviously they didn't work because it was the wrong treatment. Found this very distressing and frustrating.

Again went back to the GP who agreed with me and there I was waiting for another referral appointment. Fortunately this time it was with the Consultant who within 2 seconds said yes that needs to be removed! Got booked in for excision of cyst for 10 days later and job done! Day procedure with general anaesthitic, was in and out in under 5 hours.

Post op wasn't exactly pleasant at times but worth it. I found driving the worse thing but improved day by day. It has now been nearly 2 months and so much happier. There is so much negative stuff on the internet which scared me stupid but try and remember people will always be quicker to write the bad stuff.

Hope everything has gone/ is going well for you

Hi! I had a barthlins cyst for a full year. I tried lots of stuff, serrapeptase, sitz baths, heat pads, meditating, pleading, doctors visits. Nothing worked. Then I asked my friend who is a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner and Accupunturist that specializes in women's issues, if she would be able to treat me. She did ! And to my suprise, after a year of having it, it was gone. I had several follow up appointments , it reappeared very tiny just once. But never as bad as it ever was. I hope you find what works for you, I've heard of lots of women using different things. This is what worked for me.

      Hi,

I will consider anything at this point. Could you recomment this traditional chinese practitioner? where is she based as I live in London

      Hi Adawn,

like a10596 I too would be very greatful for a recommndation for a acupuncturist you visited!

I'm moving to GB in a few short weeks and it would be such a relief to have a referral if things go wrong in my nether regions. I'm 38 and had my first bartholin cyst dicovered in July 2016, it got abcessed in August and I never wish to go through that again! But recently I noticed the lump again. And another, smaller one on the other side of the vagina opening. I'm terrified that either or both would grow, or even worse, get abcessed!

    Hi Jessie,

In the same exact situation as you right now, please let me know if there has been any progress? I've literally tried every home remedy recommended online and nothing. This is my 3rd cyst in 12months and I'm 29 years old.

First time it happened I thought i was dying, I was travelling for work and ended up missing team dinner/lunches just to sit in a hot bath to ease the pain every evening. It finally shrunk on its own after 7 days of baths, compresses and co-amoxiclav (antibiotics)

2nd time I was ready to die. Couldn't even lie in bed, could not walk, eat, talk, read, nothing. Would not wish this pain on my worst enemy, and if childbirth is anything compared to this I'm not having any children. I went to my GP the minute i felt a small bump/soreness down there knowing what was going to happen to me. My usual GP wasn't in and ended up being seen by an older man who advised me to wash 'down there with dettol'....WTF. Did not listen to his advise, I went back the next day to see my actual GP who sent me home with co-amoxiclav again, but the next day the lump had quadrupled in size and I couldn't even walk to the bus stop. I had to take a taxi t othe GP, I couldn't eat as I could even walk from my bed to the kitchen. Anyway, she sent me off to St George's hospital A&E with an urgent letter saying my cyst had abcessed and I needed emergency surgery. I got there at around 10am and wasn't seen until 2pm. The doctor that saw me said they wouldn't operate on me as I wasn't an emergency and they can only operate once it becomes an abcess, my letter clearly stated that it was an abcess. I assume they just try to discourage operations as they are costly to the NHS? anyway i pleaded with them to do something but they refused and asked me to go home and wait it out. I burst into tears as i had a holiday booked a week away and there was no way I was going to make it. I was in so much pain I was dreading the walk to the taxi and the days to come. I cried and had to lie that I had just started a new job and had missed my first few days of work. Only then did she go and speak to a consultant for a second opinion, and they agreed to set up a marsupialisation appointment....2days later. I went home, died for 2 days and came back in the same pain for my operation. I was under general anaesthetic and the minute i woke up i was relieved. I was bleeding like crazy and had to wear pads but that was nothing compared to the pain i had to go through before. I managed to go oon holiday (couldn't swim because of the scars) and the wound healed within 2 weeks.

fast forward 7 months later and the cyst is back. it is the size of a grape and not painful and i've had it for about 3 weeks. The gynae referral waiting time is appros 49 days and I have to leave the country indefinitely in about a months time so I won't be able to be seen. I have done everything to try and sort this out, GP says there's nothing they can do, A&E wont even consider draining it because it's not painful but it's extremely uncomfortable having the lump down there, I have a partner and you can imagine where my sex-life has headed....quite frustrating that there's nothing that can be done. I've read forums where some people have had this for 4 years! Any advice from experience would be highly appreciated :'( sad

Hi my bartholin gland cyst the size of a golf ball just burst i can't explain how relieved i am all i did was have hot home salt sit baths about 6 times a day and it burst on its own i even used to apply vickys vapor rub on it. It used to help alot for the pain. I never went to the dr because i was scared to get cut or any other sh*t they do. I choose to go online and check for the best home treatment and the best for me was the sit baths and the vicks trick is my own. But it did take about 6days to burst i only started the sit baths 3days after the cyst appeared maybe if i started the sit baths earlier when the cyst appeared it would have burst faster then it did. Good luck hope this helps

Hi Renee. This is only the second day I've noticed mine although I've probably had it for longer I just didn't notice until the pain kicked in.. I hope all goes well for you. As I am still undecided on what treatment I should use I would love to hear how everything works out for you. If you aren't in pain, I've found from a lot of research that the cyst might go away on its own because it's not an abscess. Do you have a Bartholin abscess? These are infected cysts and unlike the cysts they cause a lot of discomfort, which is what I have.
