EVERYONE READ....THIS WORKS!!!! Hello all, I am new to the site as far as contributing but have been reading posts for a few months now. I have had hives for almost 6 months now and as all of you know, it is worse than horrible. I have been to my GP, Dermatologist, Urgent care twice and 1 trip to ER in search of answers or at least some relief. I have been unable to sleep during this entire thing except for an hour or 2 here and there. Until last night. A few days ago I read a post from "hives and thyroid" about her cocktail which she swears works. Yesterday I go to the Allergist still looking for answers and my main concern I will be off my 5th round of steroids since January, and I know it will come back very strong. After talking a while she changed my antihistamine to Doxepin. Hmmm, that sounds familiar...I went home and read the post again and yes, it is one of the drugs that worked for her. Singular I am already on. Thats 2 of the 3!!! The other is Zantac..over the counter. I picked up a box and went home and made my cocktail....Singulair 10 mg. Doxepin 25mg. and Zantac 150 mg. I KID YOU NOT GUYS...MY ITCHING STOPPED WITHIN AN HOUR. TODAY ALMOST 24 HOURS LATER, STILL NO ITCH!!!! The hives are slowly fading as well but they dont itch!! It seems that the combination of these drugs hits all the H1/H2 receptor sites to stop the histamine from being released into the body. The Zantac hits the receptor site H2 which it seems the other antihistamines do not. Zantac, who knew??? I feel like a new person. What a relief. Talk to your doctors and get these 3 meds!!!!! I will keep you posted on my progress...Now to find the cause of it   .btw...Zantac (ranitidine) was first developed to be a histamine antagonist, hence it's use, along with other antihistamines, for hives. Good luck everyone, I know you are all as desperate as I am

HERE IT IS GUYS....NO ITCHING FOR 48 HOURS!!!! THE MED COMBO IS WORKING!! I am taking the 3 pills every 12 hours except last night I had fallen asleep and it went 131/2 hours since last dose. I have to say my skin was starting to crawl but shortly after the pills that went away. My skin is sore...like maybe I got into a fight or maybe I have been scratching it for 6 months but I am sure that will ease up. I know this is a bandaid until I get to the root of the problem but what a heck of a band-aid it is. Try it folks...even if you just add the Zantac to what you are taking now I am confident it will help. It blocks receptor site H2 which antihistamines do not. Good luck all

Debolite, Thaank you for taking the AIP/Paleo diet suriously. It is very difficult, but after one week I am itiching at least 75% less.  I encourage all those who have this nastiness to look into the AIP/Paleo diet. Our bodies are sick from all the foods we thought were good for us :-(

Hi Michaela, sorry to hear this didnt work for you and my fingers are crossed for your new meds.  I can pretty much say I have been itch free for 3 days now.  It does feel like it could go off at any moment sometimes but it hasnt.  This is the most miserable thing I have ever had to endure.  There sounds like great promise in the new drug Xolair which was just approved by the FDA within the last few months. I wish you all health and itch free lives.  Take care all

Hello all...Well I havent been on for about a month so here goes with an update.  Well the cocktail I described above did work...but only for a short time. I am continuing with the Doxepin, Cingulair and Zantac and also have tried several additions to these as the effectiveness of the first 3 meds diminished.  You Name it, I have tried it.    My allergist ran some more blood work and my allergin level was off the charts.  Definately an allergen.  2 weeks ago I started Xolair and my second shot is Wednesday.  .I am still itchy.  I have noticed different times I can almost feel the offending item making my skin crawl.  So....I decided to do a through clean in my room...I have a huge room and spend most of my time at home in there.  I vaccumed, washed walls, changed sheets again, more vaccum, washed windows, removed all cloth furniture.   Then bought a room air purifier and it runs 24/7....btw..when I cleaned I wore mask and gloves.  I have a down comforter with a duvet cover which I removed the cover to wash it.  I tossed the comforter on a big chair and cleaned some more.  I became exausted and plopped down in the chait with the comforter.  The minute I sat down on it, I knew this was the problem.  I immediately started wheezing and felt the down feathers were killing me.  So, it went out to the garage and I cleaned again...IT WAS THE PROBLEM!!!  This was 4 days ago and I am better but far from being clear.   I went to the makers of the comforter and did a little research and it turns out that goose/ducks have dander on their feathers.  Bingo...Also the feathers are so small and almost airborne so much more cleaning needs to happen.  I am going to take the Zolair shot on Wednesday and I guess time will tell.  At least it is some sort of answer.  Good luck to all of you and I hope you can find what is causing it.  It makes it a littlle easier to handle.

Sounds a lot like me. Allergy tests were off the charts to Grass, Birch, Mold, Dogs, Cats.

Feather bedding has always given me an instant asthma attack.

I suspect my problems are partly tree / grass / mold allergies combined with a dog allergy living with 2 dogs. But one died and the other is very old now, so I will see what it's like for a year without dogs before considering if I should get another one.

By the way, I've been on Paroxetin for 2 months now. It hasn't cleared the rash, which is probably slightly worse since dropping Doxepin and Fexofenadine BUT I feel much better and there is no itching with the rash so I don't really mind.

I really noticed on holidays that swimming in coldish water brought the hives on. Never had that before.

Hello Desmond,  I also have a cat which I tested very high for their dander but my allergist said it probably isnt him as I have had him for 11 years.  She also said he probably doesnt help the situation but not the cause.  Mine all started in January of this year and prior to that I only reacted to allergins with a runny nose.  So since my memory isnt that great as to what I was doing in Dec. or January which was different in my life...I got out my check book which had records of everything I spent, along with ATM receipts.  Found my 2014 appointment calendar which had vague scheduling and basically what I was doing.  It helped jar my memory some.  Anyway, good to hear you are doing somewhat better and your itch has subsided.  I will keep Paroxetin in case I need something again.  I havent tried that one yet.  Take care of yourself and good hearing from you again

    Hello,

Just ran across this post and as a new sufferer I appreciate everything I've read. I was wondering if anyone else is also on High Blood Pressure meds.

I have never had an allergy or rash in my life until 4 weeks ago. I had gotten some semi diluted commercial liquid laundry detergent on my hands at work and this is when my urticaria started.

This stuff is Potassium Hydroxide and Sodium Hydroxide. When you look it up, it is Lye and caustic sodas. Anyway the Doctor made me get off the HBP meds cause he said it can cause this.

Indeed i am one who is desperate enough to heal these pestering itchy and blotches galore and swelling on my face. I have had it since March.. and I don't really know what triggers them. I have seen MY GP many times, allergist twice, dermatologost thrice and ER twice.

All these months medicated between Reactin (20 mg prescribed by GP & over the counter) and Benadryl (over the counter) plus betaderm cream or lyderm and/or calamine lotion..

Test was done by allergist with 50 different oils applied on your arms and didn't get any reaction whatsoever.

Now the Allergist tells me to journal the food intake if & when the hives occur. Which I find it impossible to do so as it could be the environment perfumes shampoos make up etc.

I felt my life is in a standstill... i can't go out and have missed work for weeks & months without pay and can't afford it...

It's very frustrating excruciating and beyond worst as horrible.

I will check with the professional doctors if so they know what they're doing how to treat these darn hives..

That is the same principle as my most recent prescription: Claritin, prescription strength Zantac and Atarax.
