Pleurisy and Chest Infection Clarithromycin

I really hope someone can give me some advice. Before Christmas I came down with a cold which turned into a chest infection. I didnt go to a GP as usually these things clear up. However by Christmas Eve I was starting to feel pretty bad and called the doctor but they were closed so I didn't go. Went on the 27th and was diagonosed with a chest infection and given Amoxicillin. I finished taking these but still felt bad and started to develop a pain under my right breast, almost like a pulled muscle or bruising of the ribs... I asked a doctor and he checked my pulse to rule out a pulmonary embolism???? and said you have pulled a muscle from coughing.... With that I left and carried on taking Ibuprofen which helped ease the pain. The Monday I had a strange incident where my heart was beating really fast and irregular and I felt sweaty, dizzy and couldnt stop shaking. I went home from work and thought about going to the doctors. Plus the pain in my right side was getting worse. I went back to the gp who said I was probably suffering with Pleuritic pain from the infection and he described me more antibiotics.. Amoxiclav...
I still felt bad and he asked me to go back the following Friday to check my blood pressure as it was slightly high.
Finished the Amoxiclav and suddenly felt bad again... nothing I have ever expereienced. Chest Pain, really bad cough, weak sweaty, extremely exhausted...no sense of smell, taste etc... so tired.
I went back again to the gp and broke down in tears as now the middle of January and things seem to be getting worse. He took blood and sent me to the hospital for a chest xray and the blood test he states shows an infection but no blood clot on the lung. The chest xray has also returned clear??? I rarely go the the doctors but he almost made me feel like a hyperchondriac...
He prescribed me more antibiotics but this time Clarithromycin 500mg twice per day.
I was hoping these would have kicked in by now but still feeling terrible and am taking these alongdside extra strength Ibuprofen and paracetamol for the pain in my chest.
I am starting to wonder if I will ever get better. I feel so low and down, I havent left the house for days and just want to sleep as I am feeling so exhausted.
Has anyone suffered from anything similar or know how long it takes to get over this... Its been over a month now and I just cant remember what it feels like to feel normal...

Hi I have very similar symptoms at the min, I've been to my doc and A&E had blood tests, chest x-rays all came back fine but after 3 weeks I'm still getting tightness in my chest, feeling really tired, sore neck and back and like a stinging feeling in my stomach, the hospital said it was a virus, did you find out what it was you deff had, thanks ?

Did you ever get it figured out? I'm having the exact same issues. Constantly sick- every infection you can think of, extremely bad chest pains. I was on antibiotic after antibiotic and they've done so many tests. And then a couple of weeks ago my heart was racing and I blacked out but I couldn't stop shaking. I'm starting to feel like a hypochondriac too or at least the hositpal and my doctors office makes me feel like one! Let me know. I'm very curious to see. I've been dealing with this for four months consecutively

I'm 4 months into same thing too. We should all stay in contact to try help each other n c if something works. I'll certainly post back if I get a cure. Moderate chest infections won't show on x Ray so it's that's clear don't let it deter you, you could still have chest infection.

And I'm catching all the bugs viruses on top of chest too n that's why I think coz my bodies wrecked trying fight lung one. They making me feel like hypochondriac too it's awful. Try ct scan that shows more than x ray. I'm fighting to get this it's a joke.

And I'm struggling to eat the last week really struggling. It's going too far. They probably won't care about that either
I'm bringing crp test into doc in morning that was 53 that I had done at a n e. That proves iv bacterial infection. The reference range is 0-5 so mines ten times over that.

Hi Giuila, I have had exactly the same as you only in also Asthmatic! These doctors really don't care so you have to take things into your own hands and get to A&E if your no better in next couple of days! That's what I'm going to do. Good luck and get well soonx😉

Hi. I had my first chest infection over xmas and i the same as you was given 1 wks amoxicillin on xmas eve. All recovered but now my sinusis are blocked n i havnt been able to sleep for 3 nights now i have a pain on right hand side rib cage which is hurting when i breath. Will try n get to see a doctor tomorrow. I am also feeling week n sweaty. And knackered😩. I usually get sinusitus after a cold but this time its a chest infection. The joys of winter.

I'm 3 months with this my bug is resistant n no1s helping me coz a chest x Ray is clear n they think it's not infection when it is. I hate all this tests craps not everything shoes up on tests. Iv had worse chest infection that this n apparently it was clear even though doc that night said it was not clear lucky the lung sounds developed eventually n was spitting up blood but my point is clear x Ray or bloods doesn't mean you don't have infection.
2 years ago I had repeated chest infections n lungs nearly always sounded clear don't let this fool you. Pneumonia can be silent. That bad infection I had also was a severe bronchitis infection n the cough was enough to admit it was bad...yet x Ray n chest clear don't let this fool you. I went off n took garlic caps n burned the intestines outtta myself 2 weeks after already been in the a n e if they hadda looked after me properly that would never have happened. The nurse even said your chest is just rotten you could hear it n yet never showed on x Ray. I went into a year's illness with my stomach which was a living nightmare. Just got over all that n now iv resistant bacteria in lung n no1s helping me with that just disbelieve me. I m contemplating my next step maybe a n e or private ct scan
I'm Still functional but oh so tired can't think straight n headache pain in left lung going through to back. Sick of this shot iv no life with it I'm miserable.

I just left the hospital for the same thing! I was misdiagnosed from the urgent care doctor, who thought I had pharyngitis. So he prescribed me antibiotics (Amoxicilian 875mg). 3 days went by, and I felt worse. Plus I had the same symptoms and rib cage pain like you had. This past Wednesday I was rushed to the hospital because I was wheezing after painful, violent coughing. I was given a chest x-ray and the doctor gave me 5 breathing treatments to open up my lungs. He told me that I had a lung infection from inhaling a viral spore for someone who was sick. He told me the antibiotics weren't helping me out, because it's not a bacterial infection, it's a viral infection. So he prescribed me an inhaler, steriods, and codeine cough syrup. It's been 3 days since I left the hospital, and I do feel better. But I know I'm not 100%. Hopefully it clears up quickly for us both!

I know how you feel. I started coughing beginning July 2016 and when it didn't go away and I started getting aches all over and a fever, a month later, I went to the gp. I had sinusitus. I got antibiotics. I went back to work and three weeks after the sinusitis I still wasn't better so I went back. I had developed pneumonia, more antibiotics but a week later I was in so much pain (with my right chest area) I went back I had two more case of pneumonia, so in three places. It's now nearly 7 months later and I still have a chest infection. Some antibiotics work and then 8 days after I've finished them I get sick again. Do not feel like you're putting it on. They are there for you not the other way around. I hope you get better soon.

I had a similar infection to yours at Christmas which has left me with a rib pain in the left side. I went to the Gp who was not very helpful. He was not very sure what it could be and suggested it could be blood clot in the lung and suggested going to A+E which I didnt. I am taking Ibuprofen morning and evening and it has helped with the pain. Also using a hot water bottle on ribs. Since yesterday I started a chesty cough and a feeling of flu again. Keep warm and drink plenty fluids. Turmeric powder in hot water is also good natural antibiotic. Will keep you posted of my progress. Lemon honey and ginger in hot water. Try natural remedies. Hope you get better soon, seems like a common infection going around.

Hi I'm going through the same symptoms I have all the luck getting tests blood tests and they all came back clear.i get chest infections every 3 months and it makes me so weak..my doctor now wants an ecg and a heart scan to rule my heart out so luke you I'm at a loss just can't understand why I'm gettin them all the time this has been going on for a year now.
