Pleurisy and Chest Infection Clarithromycin

I really hope someone can give me some advice. Before Christmas I came down with a cold which turned into a chest infection. I didnt go to a GP as usually these things clear up. However by Christmas Eve I was starting to feel pretty bad and called the doctor but they were closed so I didn't go. Went on the 27th and was diagonosed with a chest infection and given Amoxicillin. I finished taking these but still felt bad and started to develop a pain under my right breast, almost like a pulled muscle or bruising of the ribs... I asked a doctor and he checked my pulse to rule out a pulmonary embolism???? and said you have pulled a muscle from coughing.... With that I left and carried on taking Ibuprofen which helped ease the pain. The Monday I had a strange incident where my heart was beating really fast and irregular and I felt sweaty, dizzy and couldnt stop shaking. I went home from work and thought about going to the doctors. Plus the pain in my right side was getting worse. I went back to the gp who said I was probably suffering with Pleuritic pain from the infection and he described me more antibiotics.. Amoxiclav...

I still felt bad and he asked me to go back the following Friday to check my blood pressure as it was slightly high.

Finished the Amoxiclav and suddenly felt bad again... nothing I have ever expereienced. Chest Pain, really bad cough, weak sweaty, extremely exhausted...no sense of smell, taste etc... so tired.

I went back again to the gp and broke down in tears as now the middle of January and things seem to be getting worse. He took blood and sent me to the hospital for a chest xray and the blood test he states shows an infection but no blood clot on the lung. The chest xray has also returned clear??? I rarely go the the doctors but he almost made me feel like a hyperchondriac...

He prescribed me more antibiotics but this time Clarithromycin 500mg twice per day.

I was hoping these would have kicked in by now but still feeling terrible and am taking these alongdside extra strength Ibuprofen and paracetamol for the pain in my chest.

I am starting to wonder if I will ever get better. I feel so low and down, I havent left the house for days and just want to sleep as I am feeling so exhausted.

Has anyone suffered from anything similar or know how long it takes to get over this... Its been over a month now and I just cant remember what it feels like to feel normal...

    Hi to all of you!

    I to have been sick since December. The worst of it went away, but I was left with a nagging cough, It is now March and I have developed a type of laryngitis as well as a bad dry cough. I have been reading this thread and what I have surmised is antibiotics are not the way to go. Back in December I had symptoms which emulated pnuemonia, but still not sure if that was what I had. I got ab for it, but it was also unsuccessful. My cough never left and I felt very low energy ever since. Now I have this laryngitis thing, which I have named myself, because I have no voice. I happened to have an appt. with my doctor for something else when I developed this and he didn't seemed to concerned about me having no voice, but did give me a puffer to try. I told him what has been going on since December, and he wanted me to go in for blood tests, as I've seen on other posts as well, but on the most part, the blood work is not showing anything either. So my best guess is to take care of ourselves the best we can and get lots of rest and hope for the best! I also believe it is some kind of super virus out there. I have heard that there is a new strain of the h1n1. Anyone else heard anything about this?

    Same sysmons as you it seems. First my hubby , about 5 weeks ago it started for him. .. Cough. Cold. Chest hurting , affectedB/b. Son had to call ambulance ,than hospital , doctors said border line  A and not snout fluids , started him on Antibiotics , said he had a Virel chest infection ,don't know if these will help trail and error he was told .  Had exray Also.  Slight weakness in left lung , that where'd he was feeling the pains from a bad ribs from caugh caugh , so three weeks later sphe had two lots of these tablets , but this time the consultant said he could not understand why the first lot of tablets were giving , as he thought they did not help ., but now 5 weeks later , feeling so much better git Antiob on hand just in case .. But you can see how much better he looks , still lots of coughing going on , but no pain , or fever , OT lifeless . One doctor said to him it a Virel infection , noisy of knowing how long it will take to clear up we think he was right in what he said . I am now I to the scone week with mine , and yes on Amollian for two weeks now .. Had the sweating dizzy ness hit and cold just like my hubby. At times feel fine than bang starts all over again . So if I got the same Virel infection  as my hubby , that could be what you got as well . 

    When end they say Virel infection they really don't know what it is  so let it go through your system. , try and fight it , keep strong , because if you don't chill out with it it will take longer as your body needs to fight it .. As I am doing my self it horrible it not nice . But please fight it .. As your B/p will be affected and Aldo remember your exray was clear you will get through this as both of us are trying to , but even today I feel better within my self , and hubby keeps sayin we fury this and he right keep string. Please let me know how you get in x

    Hi Giuila . You have described so much of what I'm going through right now that u could b talking about me . started off same . I got bad Sinus infection with bad Respitory tract infection with lead to severe bronchi . Swollen glands , spots on tonsils . Clear xray. Been on sinus spray , steroids , inhaler , double antibot, Viscotex . Nebuliser. Vitamin C 1000mg daily . Lemsips . That pain in breast ..pulled muscle from coughing . I do not run to docs but I've been 3 times in 2wks . Do I go again ? 12 days on . Not gone completely .. get shortness of breath needing inhaler still . Runny nose on and off , cough not completely gone either , bouts of coughing . Glands still up a bit . Voice can get hoarse from talking but feels like coming from lungs not throat . Clamy tonight . Sorry long message . Would like to know how long it took you to get better . This thing taking some hold .

      Hi michelle22180, yes I would return, this is a thread I have been following as all of the above was happening to me, the pain under my left breast I'm told was 'muscle pain from so much coughing' the phlegm I was bring up went through just about every colour, after nearly 3 1/2 months of this and 4 doctors visits my son took me to a/e only to discover mine had turned into pneumonia, and I'm now in hospital, so yes I would return to your doctor or go to a/e X

      Hi Jill . Shocked 3 1/2 months . My goodness . Thats some fight . You should have been in hospital sooner . I wish you a speedy recovery Jill and thanks for advice ... I googled symptoms last night and lead me here . I had a cough for 2wks . I'm a month fighting to get rid now. Nasel discharge went to something totally discusting too. Thank God thats gone . Great tipp Olbus oil drops rubbed into chest and neck helped my breathing also put in oil burner in the room .

      Hi Gill . Went back to GP today . Coughing a lot last night . Glands in my neck swollen again . He asked me if I pulled down a ceiling at home . I never had asthma . Now on two inhalers for a month . Ventolin 200 dose x 4 times and Relvar 92/22 once daily . He also gave me back up antibotics and steroids .

      Hi Michelle, good to know your doctor is taking things seriously, also good to have back up antibiotics & steroids, I've never heard of the relvar inhaler, I have the ventolin, beclometasone, salmeterol & spiriva, how are you feeling now ? Are you bringing up much rubbish ? ( better out than in ) I'm glad you went back to see your doctor, I'm on the other side of this pneumonia ( I think & hope ) keep me posted as to how you are ~Jill~ X

      Hi Jill . No rubbish presently . Feeling zapped today . Fell asleep in canteen at lunch time . 😩Experiencing pressure in the middle of my chest on /off . Talking strains the voice . Got Sambucol and Olive Leaf Extract from Holland and Barret today to build up my immune system . The manager recommended these . He recons as I hadnt been sweating it out , my immune system isnt strong enough to fight infection . Bloods taken yesterday , waiting on them . How are you tonight ?

      I'm still fighting the fight, your immune system does sound compromised, when I'm home I will find the link for the probiotics I take for my immune system, there just one a day capsule but when I started taking them I found a good difference in a very short time, I've tried finding it on my phone but can't, there are ones you take while your on antibiotics and there's some you can take on a daily basis, I think when antibiotics are given out they should give these too,, your still going into work while so poorly ? Oh you need rest to get well, not always easy though I know, hoping you've turned a corner by today xx

      Hi Jill . Pharmacy had recommended Bio Kult probiotics while on antibotics . Great help to my gut . Using natural yogurt also . I was on sick leave for a wk . Back a wk . I have a long wknd now Sat , Sun, Mon going to rest . Felt a bit different this am . I think I'm finally turning a corner . How r you ? Will you b kept long more in hospital ?

      Hi Gill . How are you doing? ? Are you feeling any better ? I really hope you are on the road to recovery .

      Had to get back up antibots and steroids filled yesterday . The pressure on my chest . The rubbish was back . The shortness of breath that came on me in the afternoon , most unpleasant . 5wks now 😟😟. I'm looking forward to being fighting fit again and enjoying life by the grace of God .

      Oh Michelle, that's not good, have they tested you for Copd ? Don't want to scare you, I've had it 8 years now and it was only that I requested a test ( due to my mom & sister having it ) but it's how I found out I had got it, carbocisteine there a capsule that are great for relieving you of any mucus stuck in there, better out that in I say, but really wouldn't be without them, I'm still in hospital, and having oxygen as my breathing was tiring me out, keep me posted Michelle, x

      Hi Gill . Thank God feeling much better this pm . The back up perscriptions are working with inhalers . 😃😃😃 Shortness of breath scared me yesterday . My voice much better too. Olbus oil in burner is clearing my sinus . Mycostatin clearing candida in mouth . 😀quite tired today but , hopefully no going backwards from here on .

      Hi Michelle, so good to here that a lot of your symptoms are easing up, 😊 It is a scary thing that feeling of tightness and shortness in breathing, I would imagine it has all tired you out, I'm still in hospital, thinking of taking up residency, lol, but so so much better than I was, horrible rainy day today so I can't go sit in the sun ☹️ I've asked my son to get me some Olbus oil for when I return home, can only help, I like to burn lavender too just for the relaxing smells, so pleased your on the mend Michelle Xx

      Hi Gill good to hear your improving . Would rather hear your going home to your own residence 😆😆. I go to the back door for some deep breaths and back in . 😤😤Dont want to catch a cold 😆😆😆. Taking out the rubbish today . 😉 your right tired today . lying in bed listening to the birds chirping . Having cat naps .🐺 . Back to work in am. You take care of yourself 🌹

      Finally I'm on the mend . Appetite and nights sleep have returned . Waiting for energy to catch upSlight rubbish , inhalers for another 18 days . . 😤😤 on the good side if it now . Kicking its back . lol

      Hi Michelle, glad to hear things are picking up for you, always a good sign when appetite returns, I'm finally home, 😊 But resting up still, have managed to gain chronic back pain, lower back, just hoping its from all this lying up ( or down, lol, ) brought antibiotics home with me and probiotics, but it's nice to be able to sit out side and watch all my rabbits running around playing, ( have 7 ) fresh air, in small bursts,

      Oh a thought have you got to reduce with the inhalers ? Or just stop ? energy ! I've forgotten what that is, lol, it must be a struggle to carry on going to work while your making your way through this, it's draining isn't it, keep going in the right direction, Jill Xx

      Hi Gill , how you doing girl ?

      I'm back on steroids , antibotic and same 2 inhalers .😧😧 Came on so fast . Coughing 2nights . Recent scaring maybe . Delighted to see my Gp on duty in shannon doc . Told me I looked well for someone that was coughing lol . .Came from work . Doc is baffled . Own words . No family history of Asthma . As doc said not like me at all . Said lungs a bit wet at the bottom , slight wheeze . Have rubbish again , mostly clear . Last time xray was clear . Didnt suggest doing another . Recommends referal to consultant to get my lungs checked out and Allergy test . Also sugested anti pneumonia injection .

      Inhalers for 3months this time . 😲😲😲
