PMR and osteoporosis.

My Gp called me yesterday to say my dexa scan results are back and they show osteoporosis. He's asked me to have some blood tests then see him next week to discuss results and start Alendronate. Im really wary of starting these tablets because of the nasty side effects so wondered if anyone had experience of them that they could share.

Oh if I had only known that. This has been one of the worst days in my life. We cannot go to the emergency and get anything. They say they don't carry meds.

I did get my medicine this morning and went to see my internist. He has scheduled my for a biopsy to see if I for sure have the GCA. That will be done on wed. In the meantime he has been messing around with the prednisone dosage until I am ready to lose it. Now I am on 50mg prednisone until the biopsy is done.

You and your rheumatologist do know that your having been on pred is likely to have wiped out any sign of the giant cells which would have proved GCA?  I can't remember - did you say you were going to see an eye specialist? He/she will look at the back of your eye and they will be able to tell if there are any problems there.
