PMR & Myofascial pain syndrome

Posted , 15 users are following.

Many (4) years ago, Eileen put together a lot of valuable information regarding Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) and many seemed to consider the fact that if the pains they were suffering through were not uniformly across the body, i.e. down one side or in a leg, etc. - then it may not be PMR.

Well Eileen, after over 4 years of PMR and slow reduction to 5 mg Pred, I have started with this "one leg" excruciating pain. I'm making an appointment with my rheumatologist  but before I go I want Eileen's current thoughts on the connection between PMR & MPS.

Any new information Eileen or anyone else ??

Appreciate your assistance.

Dave

Hallo Dave.  We’ve not heard from you for some time - thought you might be “cured” - (I know, not cured, in remission).

Sorry you are going through such a tough time again.

Just wanted to say I too often have pain on one side only (well it is MUCH worse than the other side).

    Regards from Constance.

Don't think there is anything new but myofascial pain syndrome is finally increasingly being recognised as a problem in PMR. And then there is piriformis syndrome - in my book they are parallels in causing sciatic pain.

Not sure a rheumatologist is much help - though mine here in mainland Europe is! But then, he is trained in the Austrian/German system. A sport physio or therapeutic massage therapist would be my choice.

Hi Eileen - yes, in the last day or so, the pain seems to be more specifically located, maybe as you say, a sciatic pain. I think I will be seeing my rheumatolologist today, and she has connections in her office with orthopedic specialists.

You mention your book - what is the title ? I certainly what to read it.

Sorry - figure of speech, "as far as I'm concerned..."

I did co-author a book about living with PMR/GCA - available from the NE of England support group shop. Nothing in it you haven't already learnt though!

Eileen, any chance you could provide a link to your post from 4 years ago about MPS?  I have never gotten any good help for that and am still suffering from it alongside the PMR.

To tie into the current conversation, I have always had much more pain on one side (the left side and I'm left handed) than the other.

I can't see a post by me that appears to be about PMS - so it must have been in a reply and no - there are thousands of replies I have posted, I couldn't possibly find i!

This links to the page with all my posts so you could look and see

It doesn't seem many - but I do rarely start a discussion. And I'm travelling so short of time.

No - I'm sure there is nothing you could put in a book that you have not already "fully" educated all of us across the world. I have the book by Kate Gilbert - it also looks like a gathering of everything you have explained to us over the last "hundred" years !! Well - it feels like a hundred years of discomfort and sometimes misery !!

We are all thankful for you assistance in helping us through this unknown world of PMR.

Hi Jeanne - the response from Eileen to someone else's discussion that I mentioned was on September 7, 2014.

If you can't find it on Patient you can google it.

I have the same problem on my left side.  I am on 2.5/3mgs.  at present.... reducing to 2.5.  I have noticed that I tend to stretch to one side when I do certain tasks and that either causes the problem or exascerbates it. It does ease.  Are you, perhaps, using one side of your body and stretching it more than the othet?
