PMR & Myofascial pain syndrome

Many (4) years ago, Eileen put together a lot of valuable information regarding Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) and many seemed to consider the fact that if the pains they were suffering through were not uniformly across the body, i.e. down one side or in a leg, etc. - then it may not be PMR.
Well Eileen, after over 4 years of PMR and slow reduction to 5 mg Pred, I have started with this "one leg" excruciating pain. I'm making an appointment with my rheumatologist but before I go I want Eileen's current thoughts on the connection between PMR & MPS.
Any new information Eileen or anyone else ??
Appreciate your assistance.

I think rather than seeing your rheumatologist you need to see a back specialist. That would be a neurosurgeon that specializes in the back. The reason I'm suggesting this is if you have pain radiating down your leg it sounds like a back issue. It may be totally unrelated to your PMR. I have lower back pain as well as PMR and most recently I've started having days where my sciatic nerve is being pinched in my lower back and causing pain down my leg. Fortunately for me it's sporadic and definitely not frequent. Sciatic nerve pain or any nerve pain can be very painful.

Thanks for your input Track - I think I might be following your process after I meet with my rheumatologist and orthopedic doctors today..
I want to try to avoid cortisone shots but if nothing else works - that'll happen !!

I saw my doctor yesterday and she thinks that the single side pain issue at the locations I showed to her is not PMR and probably not myofacial pain syndrome - more likely a joint compression problem somewhere in my lower spine or hip area - so I am going to "run" over today and have few X-ray/MRI's as necessary to clarify this potential. Then if it is this - she has set me up for a specialist physical therapist who deals with age related joint compression. How come there are so many things that get us felling 'crappy' when at our age we should be happy and smiling ! I hope they figure it out - it's 'bothersome' !!
