Poorly diagnosed condition

As a pediatric physiotherapist, with a special interest in juvenile hip conditions, it is interesting to hear everyones experience of this often poorly diagnosed condition. I'm sorry to hear quite so many people out there have had real problems with the medical team coming up with the correct diagnosis. As many of you have noticed the literature is fairly hard to come by unless you have extensive access to medical journals.

The reason that I am posting on this forum is to hear from anyone who has suffered SCFE and who would be happy to describe their original symptoms. Many of you have said that knee pain is often the first sign something isn't right and this fits with the majority of cases of SCFE I have seen. I would be really interested to hear what everyone else out there feels?

It us just something you have to take one day at a time . My son was in pain knee thigh hip took to doctors and told growing pains the next day like your daughter he had an accident at school leaving him unable to put any weight on went to a&e he was put in traction as well for two days then pinned but our son ended up at worst end of spectrum with avascular necrosis we are 11 years down the line now had total hip reoacement at 18 now 24 and is just getting pain again but in right hip waiting to be refered again as was doing so well they discharged him .

I wish you and your daughter lots of luck we have met lots of people that seem to recover and get on with life only a handful that are unlucky .

I was diagnosed at 14. I had the knee pain...but the most bothersome symptom was the fact that I could not lift my leg onto the bed. I had to pick my leg up to move it. Mine became bilateral. The second hip slipped further than the first but the pain was not as bad. I have had the impingement surgery on one hip. Took 3 years to heal. Been 4 years and I know I need to address it.
