Positive-Negative H. Pylori test. Very confused

Posted , 6 users are following.

I have been experiencing the same symptoms for the past 2 months: nausea, upset stomach, headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite. Have gotten several tests done (CT Scan, abdominal ultrasound, blood tests, stool sample) all have come back negative. I decided to get a second opinion where they also did bloodwork and I tested positive for h. Pylori, but my dr says blood tests aren't always accurate in detecting h. Pylori. I'm on day 5 of the Prevpac antibiotic treatment and feel even worse than I did before. My dr advised me to stop the medication and stick to what he prescribed for me (Ranitidine 2 x a day). I'm very confused now as one test showed negative results and another showed positive. I just want to find some relief and soon! I have 3 little ones under 7 that need their active, healthy mom back rolleyes please help!

Your blood will continue to show your positive if you ever had h pylori. Did your stool test test for h pylori? I would not stop the treatment if I suspected h pylori. I had it just two months ago.

They did test for h. Pylori in my stool and it was negative. That's why I'm so confused. I just want to feel better

Ask for a urea breath test. But I would not stop treatment if you think you have it.

I'm not sure if I have it though. My dr says I don't because the stool test was negative but the other dr said yes because it showed positive in my blood. That's why I'm so confused

OK. Another test to show your H.Pylori status is a CLO Urease test, which is carried out during a gastroscopy. This may be more reliable. Plus, a gastroscopy will allow the specialist to examine your stomach & duodenum in more detail. You can also ask him to carry out a D2 biopsy for coeliacs disease [gluten intolerance].

The prev pac was really harsh on my gut flora and during treatment I experienced a lot of side effects

Nausea. Fatigue. Bad dreams. Stomach pain. Bloating. Metallic taste in mouth. Heart burn. For me anyways. Read up on side effects from the meds you're taking and call your dr today and ask the dr. They can re assure you.

I was on therapy and didn't experience any side effect exept mild headache! I am allergic on penicilin, aspirin, ibuprofen, metamizol, morphium , rantinditine, so doctor said coz of these allergies I can experience side effects but thanks God I didnt. I was on omeprazole , Metronidizole and Clarythomicin which didnt take care of bacteria and now Im on 10 days therapy /180 pills ( omeprazole , metronidazole, p.bismuth, and tetralycine ( hope i spelled these right). All together I am taking 18 pills daily-5.000 mg strong dose . I did all testings ( CT, ENdoscopy, blood disease test, stool , anemia, cbc, thyroid tests, ultrasound of pelvic, liver, gallblader, pancreas, and all came back ok exept that I was diagnosed with h pylori twice .

    Hey Jnetbee

I hae the same exact syptoms  we speak and I did all the H. pylori tests and they always come out negative.  The odd part is if it's positive in blood meaning that at some point in the past year you did get it o if so how did it go away on it's own? usually people would take something then it comes out negative.  I had it , took the prevpa then ok the test and it was negative but I still have the horrible fatigue still, and nausea so it's like I didn't take anything but the test comes up negative.  Do you have any weight loss? Did you do a colonoscopy?

That's why I'm very confused and not sure if I should stick to the Prevpac treatment or stop and continue with mastic gum. I have lost a lot of weight, I'm already very thin but haven't had an endoscopy or colonoscopy yet.

I had same symptoms for over 4 months . Did CT, Blood disease test, stool , ultrasound of pelvic, ultrasound of gallbladder, liver and pancreas, anemia, thyroid, endoscopy and everything was normal .before I will do any of these except CT I was positive on H pylori and i took 14 days therapy which didnt take bacteria out. Now I am on much stronger therapy for 10 days where i have to take 18 pills daily (5.000 mg strong medications). I was in worst pain ever, cramps , diarrhea, pain just below breast bone and under ribs, low abdomen and upper abdomen pain , etc ... i will give you advice : get IBGuard pepermint oil pills, stay away from dairy, spicy, fried food. Eat mostly rice, potatoes, bananas, pears, fish . Drink lots of water. Every morning drink one cup of little bit hot water mixed with 2 spoons of honey but drink this really fast and dont et 30 min after this. Try not to search much on internet because this can affect your stomach. Think positive and its only bacteria . Hope you feel better.

Thank you. I do make it worse by researching online.
