Posted , 21 users are following.

I am 30 and have had a very active life, but in the recent year I have became more tired I sleep more than 9 hours a night, I have constant pain in my neck muscles and also my knees.

I have been to the Dr bit all my bloods came back normal (slight elivation in my white blood cells) .

I was wondering if I could possibly have this chronic fatigue syndrome?

Anyone have any idea's

Of course you could have ME/CFS. But you could also have a lot of other stuff. First do a Google search for ME/CFS symptoms and see if they resonate with you. From your post, it's impossible to tell what's wrong. With ME/CFS, you'd have a deep fatigue, especially after exertion of any kind. You might have orthostatic intolerance, sleep issues, and problems with memory and concentration. At very least, if you don't have problems with fatigue (not sleepiness), I'd be surprised if you had ME/CFS.

I describe the fatigue after exercise as like I used to get after the first hockey lesson after the summer holidays, only I get it after any physical exertion and it lasts much longer than normal. Painful, weak muscles. Also other symptoms as described above - dizziness on rising, memory problems, confusion, and strangely, extreme mental exertion can also trigger symptoms.

      Hi pixie

I do get exhausted and have problems with my short term memory. My muscles are weak but not painful .

      Thank you for your response.

    Hi Jill.

Research suggests that raised white blood cells can be present during the early stages of ME/CFS (about the first 3 years) and then for some reason this seems to level out again.  I had exactly the same thing when I first became ill with this and each time the doctor would say I must be fighting a cold/infection.  O course, back then I did not know what was wrong with me and neither did the doctor.  It was many years later before I was diagnosed with this horrible illness, as is the case with many people.

There is no way of knowing whether you have this illness without having a whole range of other tests to rule out any other possible cause.  The symptoms you mention could have a number of possible causes.

Do you feel exhaused almost all the time as well?  Frequent sore throats, swollen neck glands, headaches? There are many symptoms with ME/CFS so it would be wise to check if any other's apply.  Sometimes the symptoms will seem to improve and you think it's getting better and then they will mysteriously re-appear, new symptoms may join them too. It's no fun and I really hope you do not have ME/CFS but if you still think you do after checking the list then please persist with your doctor.  I wish I had known a lot sooner.  There is no special treatment but learning how to manage your energy and spending it wisely before things get out of hand would have been the best advice for me back then.

      Hi olivetree

Yes I am exhausted all of the time and have frequently swollen glands, but no headaches.

With everyone's response on what the real life symptoms are am not sure if I have ME/CFS well I hope not!

If booked another appointment at the Dr's to investigate more.

      Thankyou for your response.

Do you feel any kind of depression with it? Tiredness and long sleep is a sign of inflammation and infection. One of the infections that can be chronic are dental infections. Do you have any problem with your teeth, cavity, dead nerve? Root canaled tooth? Does any of your tooth hurts or felt different than the others when tapped lightly, with rear end of metal spoon?

      Hi dentalcfs

I had recently been to the dentist for a infection with my wisdom tooth but it all looks to be cleared up now, none of my teeth feel tender.

But thank you for your response..

You mean you have cavity for some time and now it's reaching the pulp, become acute, and causing infection? Have you got the tooth extracted? Regardless of whether it's the cause of your fatigue not, tooth infection are linked to lots of disease, including heart disease. I would highly suggest to get it extracted, before it gets worse.

My CFS was caused by decayed tooth infection. And do you think I believe it was caused by that? No! Not before I got it extracted and saw the granuloma. Your CFS symptoms looks like mine -- that is, almost all regular CFS symptoms, without the headache. Then at some point it was getting worse, causing general immune depletion and problems with candida. None of the dentist and the internist points to the root cause. Of course, this is not their textbook case. "Normal" person would get tooth abscess, but my hypersensitive immune seems to work so hard to prevent even an infection. But it does depletes my immune.

If you want proof, drink 1 spoonful of virgin coconut oil (VCO) and feel how you responded to it within 1-2 hours, and compare it with healthy person. But of course, unless the root cause of the fatigue gets treated, VCO will only give you bandaid.

The dentist dosent want to take it out , as it is only half way through the gum.

My mouth on that side is overcrowded so it has been pushing through for over a year now.

Thankyou for the advice, as I think about it most of my fatigue started around that time.

I'll buy the coconut oil today and make an appointment at the dentist and to see if they car remove it soon.

Did ur fatigue subside after you had it removed?

What happened after my extraction? Within 6 hours my deep voice that I lost for months was back, within 24 hours the ambient ache on my next and arm was gone, replaced by a very relaxed feeling, and within 30 hours I have a very strange feeling as I've just awaken from a dream -- a very long dream. Fatigue was gone instantly. Mood went to the roof. Feeling healthy. Sleeping 6.5-7 hours is enough as it is before all my fatigue came in.

However, my story is pretty complex as there was 2 tooth involved in my case. And that long sleep of 9-11 hours was then becoming trouble-maintaining-sleep insomnia. I would always woke up after 4 hours of sleeping. And my immune was already pretty messed up. I'm planning a blog post for my story, probably by next month.

So please, try it before it went as bad as mine.

One of the decayed tooth of mine is a partially erupted wisdom tooth as yours. I'm 34, so looks like these problem do came in at these ages. Some experienced dentist can extract partially erupted or impacted ones, but if you can't find them, you may want good oral surgeon to do that. Go for local anesthesia, much safer and faster. Experienced ones can do it in minutes. Also, is it just one tooth that is in problem? Better to extract just the problematic tooth for now, as you're in fatigue.

Good luck and wish you for full recovery, keep on posting.

You're welcome Jill. Btw, I forgot to tell you something. Within 30 minutes-1 hours after the initial spoonful of coconut oil, you *may* feel a bit sick and tired, but once it ends, you will feel great amount of energy.

Also it appears to me that your current dentist may not be competent enough to pull a partially erupted wisdom tooth, so can may want referral or finding experienced dentist or oral surgeon by yourself. And, say NO to fillings and root canal. The only way to fix this is to get it extracted.

Good luck! You're 30 my dear, you life awaits you.

Im so glad i came across this message! I have been suffering with pain from an absess/in correctly filled cavity for over 3 years!  the pain was unbearable at times, i was up and down GP's for ages as i was constantly tired, fatigue, (aching muscles etc) all of the time, so bad i took voluntary redundancy from work to cope with the tiredness!  thinking it was due to stress of work, all the time the problem with my tooth rumbled on in the back ground, following a raft of GP visits, referrals to all the specialist under the sun, including rheumatology, cardiology, endrocology to name but a few, i was told today they think I could be suffering from CFS/ME, and i was to 'try and live with it!', despite me saying to each of them i thought it was something to do with my tooth, non of them were interested.  i am convinced that this is the case as my bloods show an underlying infection that has been there for just about 3 years, funny how thats how long my tooth has been giving me trouble for!  Im now in the process of going back to the GP and making him listen to my concerns about the tooth, again it is absessed and i am waiting to visit the dentist on Friday, a new dentist i may add, who has been really supportive of trying to sort this tooth out, after 3 years of niggling constant pain in my jaw I hope that someone will put two and two together and take me seriously when i say I think it is the tooth that is causing the fatigue!  Your post describes exactly how I have been!

Hi Dee. Yes! Please take the tooth out. It may need surgical extraction but don't worry, you just need an extraction expert dentist and its all fine. 3 years is a very long time.. Better check our deficiencies left afterwards, but don't worry as it will all pass! Good luck Dee!

Hey man i have a quick question . After the extraction did tou replace your tooth with a fake tooth or left it like that . I am asking this because my decayed tooth is a molar

Hey! Mine was wisdom tooth, so I its one of the teeth that doesn't cause other tooth to "move" when it's out, so I just left it as it is. Anxiety at that time, of course, well I don't know what's wrong with myself back then!

Btw I had a buddy that had his molar out and he didn't put any dentures (fake tooth) there. And it seemed to help with his crowded tooth. If I were you, I would avoid foreign objects attached there, really. Anyway the tooth won't just move like that instantly, so you have lots of time to think [smile]

Wow, I feel relieved and hopeful after reading this thread. I've been struggling with crippling fatigue for a year or longer. I have frequent brain fog, fuzzy vision, lightheadedness, weakness, muscle tension, slow digestion, and have difficulty losing weight. I have an infected tooth (two teeth to be exact, but one worse than the other). It definitely does feel like my fatigue is linked to my tooth infection. The worse tooth had a large cavity very close to the root, under a filling. A month ago the dentist cleaned it out and put in a new filling, but the pain persisted.I stubbornly tried to save my own tooth using home remedies and changing my diet but things have not improved. It seems healing is impossible when you're fatigued. On the 15th of this month I will have the tooth extracted. I'm hopeful that much of my fatigue will vanish after that! Thank you for sharing your experience!

Actually I forgot to mention a hypothesis from my discussion in another ME forum. It ends with conclusion that having inflammation close to the trigeminal nerve will cause that CFS-symptoms.

So I had two teeth with the problem at that time; an upper left wisdom tooth, and lower right premolar. They weren't taken out at the same time -- the wisdom tooth first, then lower right premolar a month afterwards.

The upper left wisdom tooth is the one causing CFS-symptoms, and the sickness behaviour symptoms were gone in an hour after extraction. The lower right premolar didn't caused the CFS-symptoms, but causes quite some inflammation which made me lose my low deep voice. And of course its back after the tooth was taken out!

Oh my god. I can't believe you posted this.

I've been suffering from anxiety, fatigue, clouded thought, headaches, muscle pain, dizziness and many other CFS symptoms for years though I was diagnosed with fatigued ADHD-pi ( a rare form of ADHD)

Coincidentally I broke a tooth at age 8, the nerve was fine but became extremely sore by age 11. I had a root canal and cap placed on the tooth. The cap came off a year (almost to the day) later and was replaced. The tooth became sore again two years later (age 14) however a dentist classified it as phantom pain, no need for an xray.

It was within the next year that my mental condition plummetted. Age 15. I'm 21 now and just felt around my nose one day out of sheer boredom, to see where the pain really was (it wasn't crazily painful, I only thought about it once a week). Discovered a huge abscess. I had a root canal done last week but was unable to get the thing drained.

Well today it popped (gross!!!) and within half an hour I felt like a weight had lifted... The first thing to go was a tenseness in my face (like it's been scrunched in pain for years), then a lessening of the fogginess. Despite it having been such a long day (it's 2am now) I already have more energy than I can ever remember.

The tooth was the very front right on top (number 11)

I'll update soon, next few days.

Oh dear.. That is a very long time to have tooth problem.

"and within half an hour I felt like a weight had lifted...", you described it very accurately. Definitely how it felt after my tooth has extracted.
