Possible post viral syndrome

Posted , 7 users are following.

I have recently posted a discussion on PR. I had this roughly 6 weeks ago. However, after the rash has cleared up, I am still left feeling very weak. I occasionally feel light headed, and have been getting pins and needles in my hands and feet ๐Ÿ˜• I went back to the doctors today as all blood results were ok, and she said it could be post viral syndrome. I am really worried if this is a correct diagnosis as I know it can last a long time.

Does anyone have any advice or can possibly shred any light on exactly how long it can last and how to deal with it. The thought of having this weakness in my legs feels very daunting, as I feel completely washed out at times ๐Ÿ˜” I have tried to adapt a more positive approach to every day to day life, home, work, children. Have started taking vitamins and been resting, but unfortunately it is not working. Please can anyone give me any hope ๐Ÿ˜ž

So please forgive me if I'm finding it hard to understand your program can really help with these illnesses ?!?!

I hate to frighten the person just starting to understand m,e but I would hate to give her false hope !

Good luck to you & get as much advise as you can but keep a open mind & not put all your hope on any one t thing !! Take care x

    Hi Lisa,

I was an athlete pre Nov2013 running marathons and doing triathlons, so the peak of my powers at 33 years young. Then early November started feeling off. I was never bedridden or anything but had considered myself superman due to my lifestyle and I took lots of high quality supplements and herbs, I was training to be a naturopath having cured my depression with it, my knowledge of the body, supplements etc was above average. I never thought this would happen to me. Well I am just about 4 months into this, diagnosed as post viral fatigue some things have improved a little but the unrelenting fatigue is still persistent, if I do too much on one day I really suffer the next, like today for instance. Oh in the beginning for me the first 2 months the horrible penetrating cold like stiffness in both legs was horrendous, this has dissipated significantly 90% 4 months in. For me gone are the days of running 10 miles at 7am in the morning, I can barely walk 5. My white blood cells have been on the low side neutrophils 1.3 TOTAL WBC has been to 2.9. It has improved last week quite a bit neutrophils 2.4 total wbc 5 normal range BUT I do not feel any better. I am currently doing acupuncture privately and TCM herbs in the hope I can have a breakthrough because I cannot live like this.

I would still take supplements and don't give up on that. If I have a breakthrough with the TCM I will repost.

    Good luck !

Hi David that sounds awful ๐Ÿ˜” it's strange as you said some days I actually feel I'm on the mend then all of a sudden back come the weak legs and pins & needles and have no choice but to sit down to rest. It's weird as I dnt feel generally fatigued in myself just this frustrating weakness.

I am taking vitamins do hoping they may help a little in time. I thought Vitamin B would be a good one to take ?

Do you know roughly how long it can last? I do hope you are through the worst of it and get back running very soon! ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Hi Lisa

When you supplement you want to do it properly. So I guess you can use my naturopathic knowledge. I often find I get others well easier than myself. For B12 make sure it is methylcobalamin. Although eating a natural wholefoods diet is number 1 but certainly supplements can do no harm. I would look into taking rhodiola root, this helped me a lot many years ago when I was lethargic and depressed. Within one week I was feeling more alert and energised.

That's great David thanku. I know what u mean, I'm usually the same u seem to b able to help others more than yourself but that's not a bad thing I guess ๐Ÿ˜‰ do you know what's the difference between b and b12. I got the complex b by mistake. All bloods come back ok, really dnt know what's wrong with me. The pins n needles concern me most

Hi Lisa, I had a panic attack this morning. Never had those before. Going back to the GP this morning. I have felt recently there could also be a problem with my heart, viruses can and do effect the heart, hence my poor circulation and deep fatigue. Sometimes another symptom of my conditions is that it feels as though my heart is being suffocated, strangled. A B-complex is good. Just be sure to research co-enzyme forms of vitamins as those work best and are used in studies. You should give rhodiola a try.

Just make sure u take plenty of rest ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks Lisa. Although resting is not the same as it used to be. Not refreshing.

Lisa, I am not sure if you know about it but you could try a supplement called monolaurin, also called lauricidin. Derived from coconut. Apparently a very good anti-viral, antibiotic, anti fungal. You could also use oregano oil if you feel you have an infection. I thought in the beginning oregano oil was working for me. I tried monolaurin for one week, I think I got a reaction from it from feeling worse, which is supposed to happen but I haven't taken it since. My patience is becoming thin.

Hey Lisa, yes better, warmer weather would be nice.

Thanks for the support. There are a few websites selling lauricidin powder in the UK, which is apparently the purest product.

Hi Lisa, I hope you receive this message. ย I believe that I also have post viral syndrome. ย I had a virus about 3 months ago, and I still feel so horrible. ย I am exhausted, and I have achy muscles and joints. ย Have you found anything that has provided you with some relief?

      Hi Jez,

I'm 10 months into my PVF diagnosis having been a really fit triathlete for many years. Unlike you i have had no definitive proof as to what has happened to me, other than in the beginning i remember being extremely weak and ill for a few months. So the doc says viral.

I'd say in your position please try mega dose vitamin C. It's easy and really cheap, buy a large tubย of powder.ย It's been one of the few things that i noticed an almost immediate benefit. You take 1g every hour till you feel your stomach is rumbling. Research bowel tolerance vit c it's different for everyone. Mine was about 12g. I think in your case as it seems clear what has happened to you, infections,ย high dose vitamin c is often touted as out best natural immune system 'food'. It's scientific fact it stimulates the production of interferon in the body, our natural anti-viral and it helps the body fight other infections. The sicker we are the more we need. Vitamin C is destroyed when we cook food so unless we are eating lots of raw foods then it's highly unlikely we are getting enough in the diet. Give it a go.
