Post cataract surgery

Is it normal to have "tired" eyes after cataract surgery?  Eyes are NOT dry, they just get tired off and on throughout the day.  I am still using prescription drops and will continue for another 3.5 weeks.

Because my eye has been a tiny bit itchy and my doctor said he saw some inflammation and I have been following directions exactly, I looked around online and found this article "Guidelines for managing post-cataract surgery inflammation - Can we reach a consensus?" that says the following "CAUTION: There must be at least a 15 minute time lag between corticosteroid and NSAID administration" (for example, if you have Prolensa, that's an NSAID and Pred Forte or the generic of that - prednisolone - is a corticosteroid). That's to allow time for absorption between drops.

My doctor and every place else I read online says to wait only 5 minutes. I tried waiting 15 minutes today and the itching it totally gone already.

Have you heard of anyone post surgery complain of dizziness?  I don't know if it's because my eyes are trying to learn to work together (mini mono vision) or if it's something else.

I did not have any dizziness the first five days after my second eye surgery but have had it these last 4 days.

I do not know what to do about it. The doc says to see my primary care physician - I will do that next week.

      Any thoughts?

Do you have dizziness from moment you wake up?

There are a number of things that cause dizziness: blood pressure, low sugar, migraines.  You should see your GP to see if there is anything going on.  It may not necessarily be cataract surgery.

It is not constant. It comes and goes throughout the day.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, Pam. Sue is right, plus also put the 3 words - dizziness cataract surgery - in Google and do a search. I came up with a few links (actually a whole page of links) but one even said cataract surgery can lessen dizziness. The rest were about people who experienced dizziness after cataract surgery. One was even on this site, the thread is called Bad Monovision Result - Dizzy, Nauseated Need Options. Now I have yet another potential reason to avoid mini-monovision.

It may be your eyes trying to adjust but it's never a bad thing to get your family doctor to rule out other things.

I had lots of headaches after first cataract surgery due to difference in eyes.  Even with one lens poked out my eyes still were tired and I got headaches especially if I spent any time reading.

Most people adjust well to mini monovision.  I wondered whether I would.  Have a history of migraines.  I get seasick on cruises (which I was told is due to eye perception) and can feel dizzy and sick driving backwards in a car.  Already knowing that I didn't want to risk it with mini monovision  (but again that is just knowing myself well).  most apparently adapt just fine.

Maybe it's just from stress after the surgeries? I will write you privately about something else it might be that's too complicated to explain here.

Are you just dizzy or also having headaches?

I'm pretty sure you have something called BPPV (I just had this 2 months ago for the first time in my life, what a coincidence). I sent you a bunch of links. I got rid of it myself by researching it online and doing the exercises to get rid of it.

And it's really horrible (spinning due to crystals in the ear that get into the canal and need to be moved back so they can dissolve to stop the vertigo), including the exercises that are also horrible, but they work. And thankfully the spinning only lasts up to 30 seconds at most.

Could you please send me the links for exercises for BBPV. Thanks!

Good news - after 5 days of dizziness and headaches - I was diagnosed with BPPV (Vertigo).  Thanks to nina234 for sending information about BPPV.  I used one of the methods for fixing the problem at home.  The dizziness is completely gone.  Turns out it had nothing to do with my eyes, rather my ears were the culprit.  My eyes are fine.  The mini mono vision is perfect.  Thank you everyone for your comments and help.

I'm glad it's gone Pam, I know how awful and scary it is.
