Post Fibroid Embolisation

If my experience can help I would like to share this to other sufferers of fibroid.
Having decided not to try for a family after having had 4 failed IVF's, I just like my life back without pain, bleeding & generally miserable every month.
I have ticked all the boxes that my gynae suggested pills, Zoladex, hysteroscopy-failed mirena or not even had it despite undergoing most uncomfortable impromptu procedure.
I cannot fault any of the staff who dealt and performed my procedure, they were excellent.
However, soon after the procedure my pain was not managed properly & I was in agony. I suggest that premedication of Voltarol, paracetamol @ anti emetics should be in place. Then as soon as the procedure is completed a bolus of 10 mg Morphine from the PCA should be initiated.
Diet wise eat less & high fibre to avoid abdominal discomfort.
Rest is vital.
The first week was I called 'a week of pain'.. The cramping was severe and round the clock pain killers, had to take 'oromorp' prescription.
Second week, things are getting better but constantly tired.
Third week, cramping started & slightly bleeding still very uncomfortable, guess this is my normal cycle time & already showing signs of fibroid shredding.
I'm still in this week of recovery and hoping that with what I have gone through the result is good in three months time.
UFE is less invasive but should be treated as having had major procedure because whilst there is no open wound, things are all happening inside you and only you can feel the pain!

I how did the procedure two weeks ago and I am recovering well however I am extremely tired in the second week. I thought I could get back to the gym but I still have a little cramping by where the catheter was put in. I am feeling very fatigue, tired and sleepy all the time. I want my energy back and I want to be able to get back to the gym shortly. I have not gotten my period yet but frankly don't know what to expect. Can anyone tell me when they got their energy back and were able to get back to the gym ?

Hi Sheila, I had no energy the first week in a half at all. My energy came back after my second week. I just had my first period after the procedure and it started off slow and light but then it fully came on it wasn't as heavy as it use to be but it did last for 6 days instead of 4. I started working out my third week on the bike and I could only do 15 minutes each day I woukd go a extra minute longer I'm now up to 25 minutes. Take your time when going back to working out. Do light workouts and build your endurance up. Your energy will come back it just takes time, everyone is different so might take you a little bit longer. It took my friend 5 weeks to feel normal again. Good Luck

Thank you so much for your encouragement. I think I will do the same. I'm glad you are doing better. Sounds like it was worth it as I feel the same. Thank you! 😊

Hey guys. Did anyone have really funky smelling discharge after embolisation? I'm about 4 weeks post procedure. Had my first period about 3 and a half weeks ago and it was dire. Heavier than ever. Completely drained me. Anyway it's over now but since the period I've been getting this horrible smelling discharge. Also I was in the shower and a whitish rubbery thing came out. Only tiny. Less than a centimetre. I thought it was a bit of fibroid and I was happy because I took it as a sign the embolisation was killing the little blighted off. My GP however said it was most likely my uterine lining.
Anyway I'm not bothered about that. I am however not happy about this smell. It does seem to be decreasing though and I can hardly smell it now. I've experienced it before but not as strong as this. I take probiotics for women but I'm not convinced this is a bacterial infection (I've had those before and this is a completely different smell). I think it's connected to the fibroids and my period.

Hi, yes I had a smell and my discharge was runny and thin. The smell is gone now I'm 4 weeks post procedure.

I've been doing a lot of on line reading and research of women who have undergone the procedure and have said they had that "rotten meat " smell as well. I think as the fibroids shrink and die, that smell is normal. The smell eventually naturally goes away so that's a good thing. Not permanent. I'm expecting the same too so hope it's not too bad

You shouldn't have a smell. It could be an infection as the information outline in the leaflets I got from my hospital. Any funny smell them you need to contact the hospital. It the choice is yours.

I personally haven't experienced a foul smell but I just recall the nurse giving me a heads up about it. They also meantioned the white discharge but I haven't had either . I don't think the surgery worked for me but I had an ultrasound and a follow up appt in two weeks for the results. It seems everyone here had successful results so far.

It might have worked it takes a while to see results I was told. Just because your not experiencing things that others have doesn't mean it didn't work. Let pray it did work keep your head up.

Thank you for your post Nora!
I had just recently done my my UFE (3Days ago actually)...and all in all,my pain has been.managed...mind you the pain pump they had me on made me sorely nauseous. I was on it till my discharge from the hospital (overnight stay). Then orders to continue with percocet around the clock for then ext three Days and NSAID next 5days,then take as needed.
I am still noticing some discharge and bleeding. Not heavy ,buy wondering how long this will continue. Doesn't smell odorous nor am feverish (Infection)...so that is my only hope to be done of...
No regrets in undergoing this. I had one humungous fibroid...bane of my monthly periods. I look forward to a better change after this

Hi Heather,
I don't have the actual specifics of location of my fibroid(its pretty much understood that it is in the posterior of my uterine wall). I know my one and only fibroid is humongous. At about 17cmx10x16.5cm.…see if you can top that *wink*
At present,I really don't see a chance (shrinking) yet,as its not even a week after the procedure.
It is my hope in the weeks to pass everything will successfully resolve. According to my IR the success rate is very high 90+%

Spell correct (my apologies) "I don't really see a CHANCE"... I meant CHANGE.
