Post op bedpan nightmare 😂😅

All of you that has had thr's done will know what l am talking about with the post op bedpan issue.

Thought l would give you a laugh at my expence πŸ˜€

This was my 2nd thr on right leg l knew what to expect hours after the op you are on an iv drip so my first thought after a while was l need a wee. I had done this a few times that day it's a horrible expereience, they roll you onto this big uncomfotable plastic bedpan and you have to pee lying down and as you do you feel like its filling up to much or about to pour over the side as you feel your bum in the pee. So i seemed to need the toilet lots and held it in as long as possible as l new this was coming.

On this occasion the nurse came in rolled me onto the lovely contraption which felt half way up my back. I said you sure that's in place ....yes she reply's and off she went and said buzz when your done.

I new it .....l new it right away l was not positioned correctly.after starting but l had started and could not stop. I buzzed in this wee nurse came and said all done. I said yeah all everywhere l think. And explained l did not think l was on it right so she looks and said oh dear you have missed it a little. Yeah l had missed it l had also filled the bedpan so she and the other nurse manover me off it and while she was walking through to my toilet does she not go and drop the bedpan.....l heard her cry oops then crash splash!!! This was at 3 in the morning. So l had to get my bedsheets changed and my toilet floor mopped.

God l hate they bedpans that will never leave my mind that l am 43 now and l had an accident on my bed and then the nurse proceeded to drop it all over my floor to. One off the worst parts of getting my both thr's is using they awful bedpans for a day. I will never forget that experience it was hard enough trying to go lying down but not with this god awful bit of plastic under you that you felt you were gonna miss everytime πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

My husband found this highly amusing!!! l don't think the wee nurse that had to clean in up then help change the bedsheets while l was in my bed did though ha ha

No wonder we all had catherers, so no bedpan issues, just the poor physio having to pick up the bag off the frame of the bed, and attach to pole of drip line, then off we went with a U shaped Walker, with one physio pushing the drip line pole, and at the same time tyring to help the other physio make sure I didn't fall, seemed we all had it, in my hospital, first time and 2nd time round.

Facinating reading how the different hospitals deal with same issues.

Oh Lors, the indignity! But I did have a laugh.Β

Like Lyn I was quite lucky to have a catheter for the first 24 hours but on the second day (full of morphine) you are expected to use the commode. Unfortunately my new friend in the next bed and I called for the commode at the same time and we knew that they would only bring one.

We had enough time before the nurse came to have a very drug addled game of Rock, Paper, Scissors and she won.Β

In conclusion, listening to her wee next door to me was too much.Β redfaceredfaceredface

Kate - Commode?? -Β  Most public Queensland hospitals that I have been in, seem to have a ensuite bathroom arrangement, toilet on one side of room and shower on otherside.

Probably originally designed to be a six bed room, but now only four bed, other bed spaces taken up by bathroom arrangements.

You can see further down the corridor where there were bathrooms, now used as storage space.

Nice to only have to share bathroom's with 3 others.

The tiny hospital I was in is almost devoted to hips and knees. I was in a little ward with 4 beds and we had our own shower room and toilet just outside. The first day we had a catheter, the second day, the commode for a bit, and from then on you use the bathroom.Β

On the second day I was dosed p on morphine so I think the commode is the safest option.

By day 3 I was walking around on my crutches and had a shower and went home the next day.Β

Oh dear - It's so hard for you girls, someone should invent something that really works for you.

I bet it wasn't as embarassing as me having to call the nurse and doctor (both female) in the middle of the night to fit me up with a catheter though ...........Β

but i think she said it has to be positioned 'just right' .... I think bedpans are too small for purpose, probably designed hundreds of years ago when everyone was much thinner due to the poor diet of the time.

Yes, Google female urinal and you'll see one. Not safe in the hands of a drugged up hippie though. πŸ˜…

Oh how I hated the dreadful "bedpan" and trying to balance on it!!! The same thing happened to me I knew I wasn't positioned on it properly, I explained to the nurse who couldn't be bothered - Β when she came to remove it - yes it was all over the bed !!!!!! More tuts as she had to change the bed - the things we go through πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

cheesygrinredfacerolleyeseekΒ Β same here ... both times - I have (I thought) a normal size bum, but on the bedpan it felt huge ... plus, (sorry) my flow was way much stronger than before surgery ... or whatever made me Β go over the edge of pan ...Β

oh boy ... One night an elderly nurse was on the ward ... poor thing - I didn;t want to be a nuisance and slept on wet sheet and sleep shirt ....

by the way: Β I have noticed that it is much harder to control my bladder post op ...

    anyone has this problem too?

big warm hug, girls /... Β  phew, it is behind us .... we did good, didn't weΒ

I wonder if bedpans need redesigning or at least resizing - they were probably designed many years ago by some young person with a tiny thin rear end, not for modern woman who we are told now has a Β pear-like shape (which I for one like).

Ain't thatthe truth. Β Even at 8-9 weeks, I am having some nights with discomfort and trotting off to the bathroom.

Hours after op was desperate. They gave me a cardboard bedpan. What were they thinking? Nothing happening. Getting painful now. So a lovely nurse undid those pump things on my feet, got a walker and commode. She carefully helped me out of bed, helped me with walker and on to commode. Took a while but heaven πŸ˜€
