Post op bedpan nightmare 😂😅

All of you that has had thr's done will know what l am talking about with the post op bedpan issue.

Thought l would give you a laugh at my expence πŸ˜€

This was my 2nd thr on right leg l knew what to expect hours after the op you are on an iv drip so my first thought after a while was l need a wee. I had done this a few times that day it's a horrible expereience, they roll you onto this big uncomfotable plastic bedpan and you have to pee lying down and as you do you feel like its filling up to much or about to pour over the side as you feel your bum in the pee. So i seemed to need the toilet lots and held it in as long as possible as l new this was coming.

On this occasion the nurse came in rolled me onto the lovely contraption which felt half way up my back. I said you sure that's in place ....yes she reply's and off she went and said buzz when your done.

I new it .....l new it right away l was not positioned correctly.after starting but l had started and could not stop. I buzzed in this wee nurse came and said all done. I said yeah all everywhere l think. And explained l did not think l was on it right so she looks and said oh dear you have missed it a little. Yeah l had missed it l had also filled the bedpan so she and the other nurse manover me off it and while she was walking through to my toilet does she not go and drop the bedpan.....l heard her cry oops then crash splash!!! This was at 3 in the morning. So l had to get my bedsheets changed and my toilet floor mopped.

God l hate they bedpans that will never leave my mind that l am 43 now and l had an accident on my bed and then the nurse proceeded to drop it all over my floor to. One off the worst parts of getting my both thr's is using they awful bedpans for a day. I will never forget that experience it was hard enough trying to go lying down but not with this god awful bit of plastic under you that you felt you were gonna miss everytime πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

My husband found this highly amusing!!! l don't think the wee nurse that had to clean in up then help change the bedsheets while l was in my bed did though ha ha

That really is a funny tale. Thank you for sharing :-) I think the nurse was very gallant to drop the bedpan and divert attention from you.Β

I had a room of my own with an en suite toilet but in the hospital l was in it was bedpans all the way for 1st day until the physio came and learned you to get up. I think l would have preferred a cathater but l understand your situation graham having 2 females fit one.

And l have a normal size bum renee but like you it seemed like this thing was made to make you feel horrible as you did not just pee normal ir felt like 2 litres of pee everytime l went and it seemed to fill the pan to the point it was flowing over and your bum was lying in the pee. They did put they what l call puppy training mat things down like a square flat nappy materiai down but they end up sticking to your bum. Your pride goes out the window when you go into hospital l have learned that over the years. As soon as my physio came with walker l was so releived to be able to go to the toilet although it was painful and hard l tried my best so that l did not have to use that terrible bedpan and l could get clean sheets and feel clean again.. the things we go through eh πŸ˜€πŸ˜€xx

I was just so glad to have the catheter fitted though, they did a quick ultrasound and concluded I had over a litre inside me that was going nowhere.

It must cause so much work and discomfort in hospitals, you'd think 'that someone could come up with something reliable and easy for ladies other than a catheter.

I know there are 'devices', but they don't seem to be very easy to use. I guess the problem stems fromΒ the design of the human body, and we don't have much control over that. Maybe we'll adapt and in a few million years humans will develop some other way to 'go'.

I was lucky had a private room with ensuite and managed to hobble across to the bathroom with the help of the nurses during the first day and then did it by myself with the sticks after. Thinking back now have no idea how I managed haha funny how 4 months down the line you forget a lot about the early days. Bit like childbirth I guess!!

In the hospital i was in I think some of the night nurses took revenge on some women who were quite demanding by leaving them stuck on those uncomfortable contraptions. You could only press the bell once and it continued to ding, ding, ding until the nurse turned it off but I often heard yelling for help long before anyone showed up to help them.

lol, i must of been extremely lucky, because i was in spire for both hip ops, 6 months apart, i was given a commode, to use, though i do remember from the first op, i had wet the bed because i had no control until the spinal block wore off

I think bedpans are torture devices. I am trying to imagine how my body would have to be bent to use one, and the pain I would have had, even without the hip/thigh pain from a THR. I would think using one would violate restrictions! And to think that some of you poor people were left alone on one! A person should have stayed with you the whole time. Just barbaric and cruel in my opinion.

Sorry for your experience, Laura. That just shouldn't happen! In my hospital they fit everyone with a catheter while you are still under anesthesia. Then there isn't any problem with either not being able to go or having to go. It was on for about a day, I think. I had a private room, and they brought a commode in whenever I had to go, as I was unable to get to the bathroom at the other side of the room. After a day of that, they said I couldn't use the commode anymore, and I needed to be brought to the bathroom with a different device, forgot the name, not a wheelchair. I was just having so much trouble using a walker. I had such bad pain and weakness in my legs.

Thing is it was a Spire hospital l was in done through bupa. They did not seem to use commodes as l never seen any both times l was in. It was bedpan both times l was in and no mention of a cathitor which l would have preferrred. I know there was no way l could have moved as l was i agony even try to move a bit. Never mind its done now and l am sure people have been through worse. Thankfully l survived and can laugh about it now x

You survived! You are a better person than I being able to laugh about it. I don't know if I could.Β
