Post Surgery Sensitivity (2 Years)

Posted , 13 users are following.

I had a hydrocelectomy performed two years ago, shortly after I had an infection that was treated with antibiotics. The size and comfort is MUCH better than before, but I've had a sensitive spot (bottom of testicle where 'cord' attaches) that hasnt really seemed to go away or get any better; When sitting or applying pressure is when the pain is there, but day to day activities it isn't too noticable. My overall experience with this procedure was 'okay'. What are your guys thoughts? Can anyone else relate? The pain is bearable, but does seem to get worse in colder weather, and I think I do have some scar tissue as it has grew in size, but again, minimal.

Hey Misolow...I had hyrocele surgery last July. My recovery time was great, and I had no post-surgery pain. Every now and then, I get a little "tingle" in the scrotum, but that's about it. However, my scrotum never went back down to it's original size...now it's about the size of an orange...and hard (see photo). But after having an ultrasound done last week, it was discovered that I have a hematocele, which is caused by blood leaking into the scrotum and forming a hard mass. I will have that surgery on May 8th, and I should be fine after that.

I mention this also for some of the men I read in the hydrocele forum about their scrotum taking "too long" to go down, also. They too, could have the hematocele and not know it.

My hydrocele was enlarging both in the left side of scrotum as well as moving up into the lower abdomen, so I had more internal scar tissue than is usual. I've noticed that that area (where scar tissue is) can be extra sensitive and mildly painful at times, but not a big deal. My surgery was about 5 months ago. I also had an infection post surgery, but I don't think the two are connected. I am very happy with the results, so a mild discomfort now and then is OK with me. If you're not experiencing any new or unsual symtoms and everything is working as it should, I wouldn't worry too much about it, but you can always check with your urologist for peace of mind.

Had my third opereation 12 weeks ago, everything was normal for 5 weeks and then it started to swell again. It got to the size of a small orange and I contacted the surgeon. He arranged for an ultrasound which I will be having in a couple of hours time. Three days afyer filling up it started to go down a bit but it aches, not only my testicle but in my lower stomach areoung the groin area. Having gone through this 3 times I am a bit wary of the aching, I had no problems with the other two ops it just filled up straight away and was the size of a mango after 2 weeks. The fact that this was normal for 5 weeks and is nor aching is a bit of a worry. Will see what the ultrasound reveals in 3 hours time.

Hey Keith...good luck on your ultrasound. I never got stomach pain after my surgery, but when I was younger in my teens, I had major stomach pain which ended up with me needing a hernia operation. That also resulted in me losing my right testicle. But keep  us posted on your progress.

Hi Raydogg, just got back from the hospital, although large all seems ok, as I had aches in my lower stomack groin area they checked that out as well and said all is now normal. I was worried about the aches in that area as this hydrocele was the result of a hernia operation. I am into new territory with this now and it seems that it is what I have got to expect from a successfull operation. Next contact will be with the surgeon who should confirm the findings and a follow up call four months later. Fingers crossed

That's great news Keith! Happy things are working out for the better. Its amazing my hernia was done in my 20's and many years later I get the hydrocele...Good luck with the surgeon findings and continue to get rest for successful healing.

Hello. I had hydrocele operate 3 weeks ago. the first time after surgery my scrotum was so big as an apple. but now It reduces as an egg (but bigger a bit) I want to know from u: how many day will everything come normal? thank you in advance.

As you may of read I have had this done 3 times and after the first two it was back withinn 3 weeks and was the size of a mango. After the last operation It wend down to its normal size but after 5 weeks it got large again and I thought its back. I phoned the hospital and they told me to come back for another ultrasound. Three days after it got big again it just went down to the size of a larg egg and stayed like that. I went for the ultrasound three days ago and it was all ok. It aches a little and it is bigger than normal but was told by the specialist that it was normal and will go back to its original size in a matter of time. A matter of time is down to the individual. The specialist and the surgeon were both happy with how it is now which has put my mind at rest. I really did think that third time was not going to be lucky. Take care hope all stays well with you.

thanks for reply Keith. I hope everything will be okay with you. Is your scrotum hard or soft? mine is hard now. I will have an ultrasound next week. so nervous. I feel pain in the groin when I am walking. how about you?

Hey Adam...my scrotum is hard and about the size of an orange. I had an ultrasound last week and it was discovered that I now have a hematocele, which is probably what you now have (maybe not). I have that surgery on May 8th. Good luck with your ultrasound.

Hello Raydogg59. Good luck with your op. how long have you had hydrocele surgery? Do you feel pain in the groin when you are walking?
    • Posted

I had my surgery last July. And although the swelling from the surgery went away, my actual scrotum never went to its original size. After being told and reading on this forum that the scrotum will go down on it's own, I was concerned that mine never did. So that prompted me to seek the ultrasound, which discovered the hematocele. I have no pain at all when walking, or in the groin area at all. But sometimes I get a little "tingle" at any given moment...that's about it. I'm actually at normal activities...driving, walking, traveling, etc. but I haven't had sex yet because of the orange-sized scrotum.

Hello raydogg59. I had the ultrasound at two hospital. the both diagnosed I have hematocele. My surgeon said  he will use the method of extracting blood from the scrotum without surgery. But another hospital said I have to surgery... I'm so confused now @@

      - My scrotum is hard now but I feel It's decreasing in size..

Hey adam405...Glad that you have two options for your hematocele. My doctor never mentioned any other way besides surgery, which I'm cool with. I went on youtube and looked at the hematocele surgery video, and it doesn't look that bad. It looks much "easier" than what the hydrocele surgery was. Recovery time looks like it will be quicker. But definitely make the decision that's best for you. Are you in the States or abroad? I'm in Chicago.

exactly Raydogg59. the new urologist said It's easier than hydrocele. only two days in hospital and 7 days to recover. but Im still concerned. Im abroad, in Vietnam. nice to meet you here. what do you think about our situation? Caused by a surgeon or another reason ? hope everything will be okay with us @@

    • Posted

Good Mor-ning, Vi-et-nam! (I had to do it) Honestly, Hey Adam, I don't want to think our situation was caused by our surgeons, because I feel anything can happen during any surgery. The main thing is that it can be corrected. I have my surgery on Monday May 8th, and come home the same day.. I'm not nervous or concerned...mainly because if it was our surgeons fault, they realized they messed up somewhere and now has to fix it.  A lot of guys are stuck with their situations, which may be a little worse than ours. Even our friend keith65805 had 3 hydrocele surgeries...we only had 1. So we were lucky with that one. And he's now waiting for ultrasound results. So I feel good about my upcoming surgery, and hope yours go well.

Hey Adam...Day 2 post-op is going great. Just laying down a bit resting, and sitting at my desk for short periods of time. The instructions didn't want me to just lay in the bed all day, so I just move to the desk or the sofa in the living room. I really hope everything works out for you...a lot of us have kinda gone through these journeys together and we root for each other. Good luck with your Friday appointment, and come back and let us know what happens.

I asked my doc and he said don't need the drain tube. But I really want to make sure everything will be okay and no more surgery! Thank u in advance Raydogg.

Hey Adam...I had no drainage tube...they gave me a bag of gauze pads and special underwear... that's it... everything went well...still have swellage, but other than that everything's good...I just need to lay my butt down and quit moving around so much...im aggravating my stitches and having a little blood on the gauze...but most importantly...Im in no pain

Hi Ragdogg, as you know I had that ultrasound 3 weeks ago, got a letter from the surgeon on Friday telling me that an appointment has been made to see him at the end of May. This is going on and on. Will keep in touch.

The end of May??? Wow, your situation is really dragging... the surgeon could have told you what was going on, but they 'd rather make you wait... not cool. But I appreciate the update...

Hey Adam...everything went well...still have a little swellage, but other than that everything's good...I have my post-op follow up on Monday, so I should get my doctor's feedback on how he felt everything went...my stitches are dissolving as I have been soaking in the tub very other day...and I'm still in no pain from the surgery.

Hi Ray, Hows it going, still OK?. I have to see the consultant /Surgeon on Wednesday , its still hard , not as swollen as the hydrocele on my last op. Tell me before you went for the last operation did yours ache, mine aches unless I have tight support and there is a sore spot there which I believe is the previouse stitches . Its been 4 months now, if there was not a problem I would had thought it would be a lot better than it is.

      Regards, Keith

Hey Keith...recovery is still going well. After soaking in warm water for about 20 minutes a day, all of my stitches have just about dissovled and my incision is healing very well. I have no pain at all...just a slight tingle inside of the scrotum. And the scrotum seems to be going down at a snail's pace, but at least it's going down. When I do out, I wear special loose underwear that they gave me, plus my own for support and to minimize movement. I did drive one day without pain or incident, but I still won't resume full activities until after my next doctor's visit on June 12th.

To answer your question...I had no pain at all before the last operation. It was just a hard scrotum, and just uncomfortable. My stitches had gone and the color had come back as well...everything was fine. I hope you get good news on Wednesday. It seems like you've been waiting for forever. Have a good holiday.

Hello raydogg59. Long time no see. I read some your comments, Everything is fine with u now. Right? Im so busy and I just had the surgery my hematocele yesterday. It took three hours to solve it. Now Im staying at the hospital, everything go well, no pain at all now. I can go for a walk but still tired. Wishing u all the best.
    • Posted

Hey Adam...Yes, everything is fine now! Stitches gone...incision closed. My scar is still there, but slowly disappearing. The color has gotten back to normal as well. Scrotum is going down slowly and almost back to normal. Things look much better than the photo I posted above a while ago. I will still have follow ups with my doctor until the scrotum has completely gone down. But he has released me as far as normal activities.  So I'm already driving and doing things as before. I'm a photographer, so I have been out and about shooting and getting ready to hit the road for travel photography.

I'm happy for you that you finally got yours done. You're gonna feel tired for a couple of days, but recovery time will be better this time around. Just take things slow and don't rush yourself getting back. Walk slowly and take your time.

I'm glad to be in this "fraternity" with you, Keith65805 and the others. I'm pleased with the way we were able to guide each other through our process, and our follow ups. I thank everyone for their concerns and well-wishes!

Nice to hear about that Ray! I didnt go to the gym 4 months ago. I lose 5 kilograms when the first surgery done because of antibiotics, concerned.. Im an architect so I have to travel a lots with a hard scrotum, so terrible @@ Hope everything will be okay.

The Internet bring us together, thanks for your quick replies and right advices. You are very very kind. If u go to visit Viet nam plz let me know. I will be a tour guide for u. There are so many see signs to take photographs.

I think even our doctor cannot diagnose exactly when the scrotum go to normal size, right? Is your scrotum soft now? Why does it go to normal size slowly? Because of swelling or anothet issues?

    • Posted

Hey Adam, I guess everyone's body reacts differently. I've read on here that some mens scrotum took close to 6 months to go down. A friend of mine here in Chicago said her boyfriend's took close to a year. So I think it varies. I'm assuming that's how long it takes for the scar tissue inside to dissolve, but I'm not sure. Maybe someone else knows something better. I think you will be okay to travel, but I wouldn't right now since you just had your surgery. But if you have to travel, make sure you wear tight underwear or jock strap/Athletic supporter to restrict movement in the groin area. Again, be careful and take your time. You have come to far to injure yourself.

I will definitely look you up if I come your way in the future. I always like to experience life in other countries, and Vietnam would be some place I would love to see.

I don't think our doctors can actually pinpoint when the scrotum will go down. They can only wait like we have to. My scrotum isn't hard, but it's not completely soft. I can feel the scar tissue inside...it's like a little bump. But it does appear and feel like it's going down, but on its own terms.

Morning Raydogg59 from Vietnam. I just had an ultrasound and everything go well. The drainage tube will remove for a moment. I decided to stay at the hospital for a few day so my doc can control it everyday, A lot of beautiful nurse here, they are looking after me very carefully. Haha. The scrotum still swollen but There is no pain anymore, I think if the drainage tube is removed I can work normally. Thanks for your informations that you shared, It's make me feel better. Thank u so much!

    • Posted

Adam...glad your ultrasound went well! That's always good news. Now, I didn't have a drainage tube, but I read that others had one as well. What does the tube do in relation to the surgery?  It goes from your scrotum to where?  But it's great that your doctor can monitor you everyday while you're oin the hospital, and the nurses can keep an "eye" on you as well.  I wasn't so lucky...I had same-day surgery and went home. But the main thing is recouperating in the best way possible. And another thing is no pain.  A little swelling, but no pain!

    • Posted

Hello Raydogg59. I went home this morning, everything go well now, no pain but still swollen. I still walk carefully, slow slow and slow like a pregnant  cheesygrin

The drain tube was placed inside of the scrotum and connected to a syringe, this one creates a suction power then fixed with tape. Many fluids were drained into the syringe. Anyway, the drain tube was removed and there no fluid in the scrotum, stitches is very dry, It's a good sign for a patient.

How long could you drive after the surgery?

Hey Adam...Glad you're out of the hospital and on your way to a smoooooth recovery! I was driving about a month after surgery. I personally waited until I could drive with no forceable movement and no pain getting in and out and sitting for a long time. Plus, the very soft car seat helped a great deal..

I drove this afternoon but in a soft time.

Hey Raydogg! How about sex? How long after surgery? My doc said after a week and Incisions are gone!

    • Posted

Hey Adam...That's good that you're driving a bit. I haven't had sex yet because I still have a little tingling that I didn't want to enhance by heavy movement during sex. My incision has already closed, but I just didn't want the banging around of the scrotum bringing any pain...hahahahaha! But I'm patient...I can wait.

    • Posted

Morning Ray! Yeah! We are patient... we can wait... but unfortunately our crush cant wait. What should we do now. Hahaaaa. Just joking!

It's a 5 days after surgery, I feel better now, everything go well.

How about Keith? Do you know?

Nah, our crushes can't wait, but sometimes they have to. At least mine have to...especially in our currents conditions.

Glad everything went well with you after your 5 days. Things seem to really be going well...great news indeed!

I haven't reached out to Keith. But I will to find out how he's doing.

      Hi Ragdogg.

The last time I spoke to you was after I went for another ultrasound, was told all was well but it was big. When I first went 18 months previous they asked if I had a prostrate test done and because I had not they said they would check it out. I have been having trouble passing water so I mentioned it and they said it had not been done but would do the tests the folloowing day. I went back, had blood test, flow test and an internal only to be told that it was very large. Mopre internals followed and to cut a long story short I was operated on within two weeks. The op was a complete success, but now I find my testicle that I had operated on three times is growing larger. I know that when I go back for my discharge flow test next Tuesday they are going to tell me that my testicle is filling up again. This will be the sixth time and the fourth op. I have just read on another site that after an operation it is very unlikely to return. I wish I could get to the bottom of why this is happening to me and wonder if it has anything to do with my Hernia or prostrate problems. Hope you are doing well and do not have any problems with yours. I have not heard anything from anyone so it seems that they are all doing well. Take care my friend. Regards, Keith

Hey Keith...sorry for my late response...been outta town taking pictures.  But as of today's doctor's visit, I'm done!  My stitching has all healed up and my testicle is back to normal size. But there's still a "bump" of scar tissue" that my doctor says will go away. But other than that, I have been released from his care and don't have to see him any more.

Sorry you're still going through changes. Just hang tough and think positive...things will work itself out.  Having been in this forum for quite some time, I read problem after problem that some men are still having after their surgeries. We're all different ages and body types and we heal differently. But it's amazing that your operated on testicle is growing larger instead of shrinking back to normal. And your testicle's SIXTH time filling up and FOURTH operation?  That's insane!  I hope they CAN get to the bottom of things and find out what's going on.

      Hi Ray,

thanks for the reply, go for my scan in two weeks, I am sure it is goint to be another op. Had surgery on my prostate gland 8 weeks ago, that seemed to have worked out ok, had my first flow test two weeks ago and all was well and have to go for another in 4 weeks, just hope I get the all clear from this as this operation was horrible, seems like the older I get the mopre that goes wrong, still I suppose it is par for the copurse., Glad to hear you are doing well, hope you get discharged on your next visit. Take care my friend, Keith

Hey Keith...I'm already discharged...no more scrotum doctor's visits!

Good luck on your scan...I hope you don't have to have another operation...the body can only take so much. I also hope your prostate surgery ends up on the positive in the long run since you stated the operation was horrible...just hang tough and think positive!
