Post viral symptoms / syndrome

Hello eveyone,

I have been diagnosed with "post viral symptons". I have not got a clue what it is.Has anyone heard of this. For over two months I have been suffering from the following:

Heavy head feeling,

unbalanced.

constant pressure in the head

flu like symptons but no fever.

Pins and needles in left and right leg. Sometimes hot and cold flushes in the leg.

Prickly feeling in the arms

Muscle fatigue or cramping in the hands. I feel like my hands are so stiff sometimes.

Fatigue all the time ( despite having a good sleep).

Apparently I had a viral infection and then one by one these symptons appeared. it is dragging me down. I have MRI, blood test which came back okay except for slight raised "infection".

Does anyone else have these symptons? It is dragging me down. Is there a solution. The Dr says there is no treatment but it will disspear or subside on its own... when? when? when? Some days I can handle it other days I want to just curl up.

No offence but this syndrome just sounds so wishy washy. Could I be misdiagnosed?

Sad Elle.

hi all and happy new year to everyone, may this year bring increasing good health and progress. i think we are the lucky ones that head towards recovery quicker. Like many here i still get a regular recurrence of symptoms every now and then, mainly upper GI indigestion, slight nausea, headaches and that mild flu like feeling. But then they slowly dissipate again. Feel tremendously thankful not to be bed bound like some. First got ill 2 years ago in August with a colleague.

oh thank goodness I found this. I thought I was going mad and imagining it all. what you have described is almost identical to what I have been suffering from following on from a viral respiratory infection 4 months ago. I've recently had several falls for no reason, but the constant heavy head and nausea and then the feeling of dizziness made me think it was my diabetes that was out of control, but everything has come back normal. I just want to get through a day without feeling like I am drained of every ounce of energy.

hang in there. did you try alpha lipoic acid for diabetes? ask your doctor. you will recover!

thanks, no i live in a small group of islands in the middle of the south atlantic with no pharmacy except through the hospital so the supplement you mention isn't available. it's currently winter so even trying to get out and stay upright is a challenge and i can't say i have had a good nights sleep for months, even with the herbal type meds you can buy on the internet.

hm, you can get ALA on the internet, theoretically

um, one of my replies is entirely gone. and it was a long one. to sum it up, digestive enzymes help, restorative paste with astragalus and some other tinctures (passionflower, japanese knotweed) help too. monolaurin which is a chemical, not a brand name so please don't delete this post as well... monolaurin made it worse for me. exercise for sure, rest, no gluten as much as you can, no alcohol. i am mostly back to normal, hope everybody has a good summer!

    hello Yvonne,

Welcome to the group. don't despair, a lot of us on this forum have had all sorts of weird symptoms over the years and got a lot better /fully recover with time. Lilum's advice is very good, plenty of rest, a bit of exercise, clean healthy diet, no alcohol, and definitely look into alternative therapies, some may help you. I m also pretty much back to normal, i get a bit more tired than i used to and if i get a viral infection, some mild symptoms may return but only for a few days. you ll be ok!! take care and yes hope everyone has a good summer! nice to hear from you Lilum and that you re still doing well also 😃 xx

I realise there have been no posts on this thread for a long time but I am so hugely relieved to have come across this on a google search - so much so it's actually made me cry!!

In comparsion to lots of people on here I'm in the very early stages of symptoms and have been swinging between the idea that I'm terminally ill to the fact it must all be in my head. It's immensely reassuring to read others have been in the same boat and found some relief in time.

For me it all started with a couple of colds followed by a mild stomach virus (everyone in my house had it - all now OK). I was under a lot of stress at the time and not coping very well in honesty. Have never 100% shaken off the cold like symptoms. I am also extremely fatigued, lower back, hip and neck pain (occasionally knees), generally tight aching muscles and twitches, pins and needles in feet and lower legs (legs feel heavy and I struggle to walk long distances), feeling cold, occasional numb/tingling right hand, ringing in left ear. Abdominal bloating/sluggish digestion.

GPs I've seen range from baffled to it's all in my head. At this stage haven't had many investigations. Full blood count all clear. Stool sample normal. Pelvic/transvaginal ultrasound all normal.

Have already started self help process including supplements, dietary changes and alternative therapies. As of this week started making a conscious effort to rest more (as much as I can with a young child and part time job). Trying to think positive thoughts!!

Hi Vikki! i am sorry you feel like that, sounds like you are in the thick of it. please know that it will pass, and there is no magic pill. i am almost at the 3 year mark and my symptoms come a lot less, and when they do, they are so mild that they hardly affect me. but it took three years to get here. check your vitamin D levels, 70 is desirable according to my neurologist, as a side (just as i noted there are no magic pills). i found it to help my numbness some, but ultimately walk (i mean walk briskly for an hour daily if you can), eat clean, cut back on alcohol, gluten, no fried foods... rest when you can, try to laugh and enjoy your baby, they grow up so fast. one day they will discover what we have, i had MRIs, CT scan (radiation, i know), pints of blood tested, endo and colonoscopy, ultrasounds of all body parts, sleep deprived EEG.... it is ridiculous how desperate we get. i learned my triggers (fermented foods, alcohol, coffee, gluten) and i avoid, but now i can have wine or a martini here and there, and i am ok. hugs, hang in there.

Hey there, dont get too upset over this. i had the exact same and i got better within 6-8 months. You need a lot of positive thinking, get back into fitness and exercise, eat well and dont make your symptoms the centre of your life. Harder than it sounds but dont get caught up in reading stories of people saying theyre years into it etc. Youll 100% get better... its a matter if you want yourself too. I feel a lot of people dwell on their problem and dont really help themselves and spend their time documenting their pain daily which puts others into a panic reading it. Goodluck! Ps maybe see a naturpath also theyre not bad. They look into different healings compared to doctors who look for the obvious signs of trauma (blood work, scans etc.)

      Hi Vikki,

sorry to hear you have this weird illness too... just wanted to reinforce what everyone else already said- it WILL pass. i m also around 3 years since the beginning of it and apart from being more tired and the odd mild symptom here and there, i am fine, and i had pretty much the exact same symptoms as you. follow the advice already given on here, and try not to focus on your symptoms as it seems to make them worse. Plenty of sleep as well (easier said than done with a baby!!) try to get your family on board to help you more. you ll be ok xx

it would be nice if at least on this board, where we share similar symptoms and try to be of help to others, we would be kind to each other. we get enough dismissive comments as it is. i think everybody wants to get better, but maybe it is a matter of age, or immune system response, or some other external factor, which determines the duration. not just being fussy or anxious, or some perverse desire to stay unwell.
