Hi ladies my op is tomorrow. Im a little confussed about how long i will have to stay in hospital. The paperwork from the hospital suggests 4 days+ but my op letter suggests it is day case surgery? How long were you in hospital for and how long before you went back to work? X

I was in for 3 nights tracey but I know more hospitals are performing this surgery as a day case. Why don't you ring the consultants secretary or the ward so you can make any plans?

Sorry meant to add, I was off work for 13 weeks and went back on a graduated return basis for 4 weeks. A lot depends on how you feel and what job you do.

Hello matron I don't know how to message you privetly? I have a self diagnosed rectocele which my gyno couldn't find but I'm 100 percent sure. I have horrible symptoms , I can't push poo out unless I splint (even soft stools) I am always bloated and downstairs is very loose. I am only 20 so this is very upsetting and embarrising! I haven't had any children but suffered from bad constipation in the past. My anxiety levels of it getting worse are through the roof. My cervix is lower than before and I think I have slight bladder prolapse but only the rectocele bothers me. I've moved away so waiting to change doctors and get reffered to a gyno specialist in my new area. Is there a chance they will give me a op at such a young age? I want children in the future but feel I can't live with this any longer I feel disgusting and emotional. Do you think I would heel quicker being young? Also terrified as never had a op and scarred of complications. I don't live at home I rent a room in a family home if I have a op and need time of work would I get sick pay (need to pay rent) so many worries going round in my head and hate waiting months on end for appointment but can't afford to go privet (sorry for all the questions ) I seen you help so many woman on here and I hope I can be one of them x

Hello bridget if you just click on my name it will take you to my page and click on message but I'll answer some of your questions. It sounds as though you have a rectocele and sometimes doctors don't see them is when you lay down it 'disappears' so it's often better to be examined standing up. It doesn't matter how old you are, if it's causing a problem then yes you are entitled to have surgery. Young women do have this operation and it won't affect your chance of having children although some consultants may prefer you to have children first but only if you were in a relationship and was thinking of having a baby very soon. If you became pregnant at a later date it may be advisable to have a Caesarean section. Young women do often heal quicker because you are healthier, usually.

There is a lot to think about and you'll have the opportunity to discuss any concerns with your consultant but make sure he/she is a Urogynaecologist.
