Posterior repair advice - how did you feel?

Posted , 12 users are following.

Hi everyone - I'm just under five weeks posterior repair surgery. If you have had the surgery how did you feel at the same time? I am worried as at the moment I feel I still have the prolapse and I actually feel more uncomfortable/pain now than I did before the op. I still have pain/discomfort when going to the toilet and don't feel any different than that, is this normal? I'm still taking Lactulose twice a day and senacot every other day and drinking and eating healthy and resting lots even though I am still uncomfortable sitting and standing and lying down! I am at my post op on the 23rd and I just wondered how everyone felt up to six weeks as at the moment it feels like it's failed for me and getting me down sad Anyone's personal experience of this would be appreciated, thank you

I am seven weeks post op and still very uncomfortable although in the last week I have been able to sit on a chair without that painful lump feeling and like you was starting to think it had not worked but my GP examined me the other day and assured me that the repair looked as if it was healing nicely. I am having lots of bladder problems still and taking Lavido as a stool softener. I also feel very fed up. They warned me I might feel like this but being normally such a positive person I thought I would be fine. At least we can have a moan together on here and in a couple more weeks we will start to feel a lot better. I think judging by what others have written this is fairly normal but hope I never have to go through it again! Keep omparing and we will laugh about it all in a few weeks! I have to wait till March for my post op appointment whih seems a long way off so I was quite relieved that GP had a look

angela reading your post just reminded me how important the 6 week post op check is. It is becoming more and more rare for urogynaecologists to perform this check but wouldn't it alleviate so many anxieties? I'm pleased your repair is healing well x

Hi thank you for your reply and letting me know how your recovery is going. The help have received and the other stories i have read on this site have been invaluable! Yes i have felt exactly the same as you, I thought I had prepared myself for the recovery but I hadn't really as I have been so scared of it failing etc and how down I've felt about it! I didn' t think at week 5 I'd feel worse than week 1. Good luck with your recovery, take care x

Hi Donna, I had rectocele surgery last 14 Dec and I also thought that the surgery had failed because I didn't feel almost any difference during the BM and I continued feeling the bulge, fortunately I wrote here and Matron said it was normal to feel like that. Happily I went yesterday to the 1 month check up and dr said that everything was going fine, I also feel that the BM are easier day after day although the pain has almost gone away I still have discomfort and the feeling that I have something down there and stings quite often. Dr said yesterday that I still have many stitches inside, and that in ten days I can have sex, he gave me a lot of samples of lub!!! Let's see if I feel like having sex like this 😬 Hugs!!!!

Hi thank you for your reply and letting me know how your recovery is going. I remember putting a post on after week 1 and I think you were one that replied - glad to hear your recovery is on schedule - I have my 6 week post op appt next week so I am curious/scared of how things are! I am so glad of the help/advice i have received on here otherwise I think I'd of gone crazy! Good luck with your intimacy - I feel far off ready for that at the moment but it doesn't help that I have urine/bladder infection symptoms aswell now, good luck with your continuing recovery x

Hi Im now coming up to 4 months post op. You are still in the early stages of recovery at less than 5 weeks. During those early weeks I found it difficult to walk taking normal sized steps ! and experienced a stinging pinching feeling, which had me back on pain killers for a couple of weeks .After reading thru older posts on this forum I believe the feeling I was experiencing was normal and was the nerve ends repairing. Our bodies have been thru a lot and we are still healing . Take care hopefully what you are experiencing is normal. As Matron has said listen to your body and remember you have had a major operation. cheers Kath

    Hi ladies,

Won't go through my experience - much the same as everyone else's! - but if you are having problems with bm s try - Aloe Vera juice, I don,t have to take anything else! Give it a try.

Its funny you should say that because I have just asked my partner to get me some Aloe Vera as not drinking enough water as it tastes horrible and I love the aloe vera juice. It helped me with IBS too.

Hi Donna what I found really great for my bowels was Alpine Tea that the hospital recommended its a Health Tea. Not sure where in the world you live but maybe check to see if you can get it by going on the internet cheers Kath

Hi Kath, thank you for informing me about the alpine tea, I am in the uk but I will look for it - I'm willing to try anything that helps as I went again last night and it was quite firm and it hurt after that's with me taking Lactulose, sennakot, fybogel and prune juice!!! Thanks for your help

Hi Donna, If you cant find it is there, I dont mind  buying it here and posting it over to you. Tea bags wont be expensive to send via the mail I dont think. Its not something Ive done before but sounds simple enough and I dont mind helping. Its terrible when you have to experience pain if we can try help figure out a solution xxx Kath. ( Im off to work now as its 8.02am Thurs morning)
