Pre-op

Hi all.

Does anyone know how long a pre-op lasts? Does it actually run out?

I had my pre-op on 30th Dec with surgery scheduled for the 4th Feb, I got cancelled until the 9th Feb now I've been cancelled again until 10th March so I'm wondering if I'll have to go and have another pre-op

I had mine in early Nov 2015 and the op in late Jan 2016. I think it lasts a long while, as most things are not variable (under normal circumstances), but I am not sure about the MRSA test.

    Hi Joanne

a pre op can last up to 12 weeks. Then you have to have another one.

      Thank you Hailea

I'm so pleased your going home tomorrow! I bet you can't wait, you have been through so much. I've been reading the forum for about a year now because my first surgery was scheduled for May 7th last year but it was cancelled then it was cancelled in June, then I couldn't get a date out of them so I got referred to a different hospital, had to go through all the consultation and full waiting time again, now I'm just getting cancelled again. It's never ending!

Good luck for your escape tomorrow 😀

Yes I am pleased to get out of here too.

What at you need to do is just keep phoning your surgeons secretary every week without fail. Just make a nucance of yourself. The more you bug them and tell them how much you are suffering the more notice they take. You say you have been given a new date. Then phone them up and make sure they won't cancle you again just say now your sure I am coming in this time I am in agony you not going to fob me off again are you ? Just keep doing that don't sit back and let them do this to you.

      Thanks Joanne 😀

I've been ringing him about getting any cancellations, he says "your surgeon is Mr Witt, nobody cancels with him!" I think this might be why I've been cancelled 😂😂

Ok but carry on making a nusance of yourself. That is the only way to go cheesygrin

Yes I think so , sorry to say particularly the MRSA check is very important.

I had to have another - I was cancelled and had my operation 12 weeks - mainly the MRSA is the biggest issue and the urine test in case of infection.

Thank you Rose, I might be able to do that at my local hospital. The hospital I'm having op done is a 350 mile trek lol

Why so far? My GP surgery did mine on both occasions as I had mere 100 mile journey compared to yours! Really hope your operation goes ahead soon - fingers crossed for you.

Oh I'll see if I can get it done at the GP if it comes to it then. Much better, thank you.

    Hi Joanne

Sorry to note that you have been cancelled yet again.I really thought you were all set and good to go!

This repeated moving of the dates is unsettling and adds to concerns about being prepared both physically and emotionally.

I am sure you are on the right track though and it will all be worth while in the end.

Stay positive and all will be well.

    All the best
