Pregabalin..........wish i had know more about it

Posted , 3 users are following.

Been on 75mg twice daily of Pregabalin for 4 months now. Taking it for pain and anxiety. Also take Escitalipram 20mg daily.

Decided to dump the Pregabalin. 2nd day, cold turkey and not feeling good!

Very anxious indeed and sickly etc etc.

I dont want to be on it anymore.

I am now taking Magnesium, Cod Liver oil, Tumeric and will start 5-HTC next week. I want to come off the Escitalipram too.

Hi Antig, you should have been advised to wean off Pregabalin or taper from it gradually at 10% per month. Cold turkey can lead to all kinds of health issues and prolonged withdrawals including seizures.

Seen doc and he said cut down to 75mg a day for one week then stop!!!

So hard to live with pain. Wish I could find a natural remedy instead of 'drugs' that docs dish out

I am sorry that you are suffering but you please do not cut down by 75mg for a week and stop! The leaflet tells you not to cut out large doses for risk of seizures. You need to taper off slowly Antig and lessen the withdrawals by doing so. If you want to know how to do this please mssg me and I will help you. I am tapering slowly and know how to do this and I have to be honest I still have one or two withdrawal symptoms as in hot/cold sweats, itchy skin (like bugs crawing on or under), but I can deal with this and am sure you will be able to as well. What dosage are you on now, what dosage is the Doc saying to cut down by...75mg a day - Is she/he serious?? Please do not consider this, it is far too fast for your brain chemistry and central nervous system to deal with as the drug does make your body and brain dependent whatever you may have been told. I am not sure if you can private message me here but just post and I will answer. As for alternatives for pain there are many natural remedies for you to research or I can for you. Best regards, Liz

I was on 75mg twice a day for 4 months.

Doc said to cut down to 75mg once a day for a week, then stop taking it. Well, I stopped taking it on sat gone without reducing!!

withdrawal has been bad but as I have started I am going to soldier on.

I am on Escitalipram too, 20mg day.

I am taking different supplements of which I hope will help.

    I started another thread today

I am in similiar situation. Was on 200mg Lyrica and 20mg Escitalipram (Lexapro) in January I stopped taking Lexapro after a quick decrease from 20mg to 5mg to 0mg so am off SSRI's since.

The same time, I coldturkey dropped from 200mg to 100mg Lyrica, it was torture to say the least for about a month or so and in the midst of it, I got very sick with an infection.

Fast forward to now and I have decreased again from Lyrica from 100mg to 75mg and am feeling awful again.

Side effects/withdrawals include: Panic Attacks (especially when driving and after excercise) more frequent panic attacks than I would normally have.

Rattled when driving especially on motorways

Tightness/squeezing sensation over breasts (in chest)

    difficulty swallowing

    weak hands

    feeling detached from my body

    not feeling normal at all

6 days now since going cold turkey with Pregabalin.

Early days but hope I beat the withdrawal symptoms.

You would have been best to have tapered gradually Antig rather than go cold turkey as I did. This reduces withdrawals considerably.

Are you having any withdrawals at the moment?

After 6 days I think it has eased off quite a bit (fingers crossed)

Hi Antig, I hope for your sake that you have few if any side effects, but being on 75mg twice per day for four months in most people that is unlikely.

Let us know how you get on, and if you do have any WD's.

You must be one of the more fortunate ones Antig not to experience withdrawals. So you have no withdrawals at all?

You were taking 75mg twice a day for four months I believe.?

Yes, 75mg twice a day for 4 months.

Been off it a week now. Feeling better now. Had bad withdrawals for a few days though. I was taking it for pain.

      Pain still here though!

Thats a low dose of 150mg a day so even though you were taking it for 4 months that may acount for the reduced withdrawals.

I had 150mg perday for 3 weeks and it knocked me for 6 going cold turkey.

Lets hope WD's don't re-occur for your sake.

Good to hear how well you are doing antig. Not everyone suffers dire withdrawals from Pregabalin and it is good to hear from those who don't. Maybe the supplements you take have helped - I know from others that this is the case. There are some that tackle pain and chronic pain but I am sure you will find them by research. Hoping you remain well
