Premique low dose - pharmacies which CAN supply it

Posted , 20 users are following.

Premique (both strengths) was out of production for up to a year, and then Pfizer (the manufacturer) announced they were no longer producing the higher strength.  The Low Dose (LD) came back into production in February 2017 but in another forum here it has become very apparent that both GPs and pharmacies widely believe, incorrectly, that even the LD is no longer available.

THIS IS NOT TRUE!

It would appear that different pharmacies (including different locations of the same chain) use different distributors, and not all of the distributors are sourcing Premique.  This means that one branch of Boots may be able to obtain it for you, and another may not.  I've started this thread so that anyone who has had successes or failures in getting Premique LD can post the details here, in order to benefit others.  So I'll start the ball rolling:

YES - Boots in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

NO - Boots in Brandon, Suffolk

Thanks to Zibbyl and all of you who followed up with the manufacturer too. I also filled my prescription for Premique LD😄 with an independent pharmacy, who kindly rang to let me know the supply had resumed. Interestingly, she confirmed what we all know, that Premique is a very good ‘fit’ for so many women, and that many of her customers were in despair at the thought of having to trial other products, yet again!  Thank goodness we don’t have to😄!

I contacted Pfizer Uk ( https://www.pfizer.co.uk/contact-us ) and they advised that Premique low dose was currently out of stock and that they had been advised that it would be back in stock around the end of August2018. Distribution out to chemists would be within a day or two of them receiving the stock.

No luck from my pharmacy either - have been without for more than 2 months now.  I'm guarding a "green" prescription from my doctor until such time as it's back in production.

Yes me too. Last time my GP prescribed me something else which was apparently the same, except when I read the leaflet it absolutely wasn’t, so I’m not going to bother this time. I’m just going g to take what I’ve got left every other day to try and last till the end of August.

I also tried 6 chemists in my area, Hertfordshire last year, until one said their distributor could get it. Now I stick with him, he always has 3 months supply for me, then orders the other three months for next day. It's about the distributor not the chemist as Zibby has said. Just ring all chemists in a 10 mile radius and ask them. 👍😄

Well done Sharon - you've got a helpful pharmacy there!

Mine was also helpful, gave me the usual 3 month supply when it finally came back into stock (after 3 months) and then filled my next prescription for it 3 weeks later, so I had a 3 month buffer when this new problem arose.  Going to see my GP soon & ask for 6 month prescriptions from now on - wish me luck!

I always get six months. I always have? Even when I was on the higher dose.. 😄

I had six months last time which was good, didn’t have the same hassle all over again after just three months. However I tried to get my new prescription with six weeks to go and my GP surgery refused to give it because they said it was too soon and I had to go back with a month to go. What did they think I was going to do with it - take a double dose??? I tried to tell them that I wanted it earlier due to supply problems but they weren’t having any of it, telling me that they’d just checked with the pharmacist on site and there were no problems with supply. Well, that wasn’t true if it’s been out of stock since April, was it? I was very tempted to go back and say “told you so” but if it’s been out of stock since April I wouldn’t have got any with six weeks to go either so not much point really. Next time I’ll check with the pharmacist myself before I go and get a prescription.

My script is at my practice's appointed pharmacy waiting for Pfizer's promised delivery first week of September!  Having to string out my dwindling supply....

Ring round other chemists in your area, then take back your prescription. I did this last year with Boots. After they told me it wasn't being made anymore. 🤥

My GP practice sends scripts directly to an appointed pharmacy so I don't get options of where to get my Premique from.  I rang Pfizer's customer service line and they said they've had yet another problem with manufacture and said next delivery is first week of September.  I explained that I have to reduce my dose to make my supply last until then, and how it causes my symptoms to come back, and that other medications are not suitable.  They said they would report this as an 'adverse event'.  Do you think if more of us were to contact them with reports of adverse events due to breaks in supply, they might try and ensure the supply is not broken?  Maybe we should complain to them as the sole manufacturer?

    Their number is 01304 616161.
