I'm in the same boat as yourself. All day pressure in my head from my forhead to the crown. My scalp is sensative and my ears buzz all day long.
I've had CT scan, MRI scan, Lumbar puncture and multiple blood tests which all came back 'normal'.
Amitriptiline worked for about 3-4 months and the pressure became barely noticeable but that's stopped working now so now I'm stumped.

I hope this thread is still active. I'm 26 and have started to feel much of the same symptoms. When I lay down some times, I feel a lot of pressure in my head from back bottom of skull up to behind my eyes and face. Sitting upright takes it away. I've had a range of terrible migraines, muscle tension/tightness that turned into swelling, sinus pressure or what feels like it, off and on now for over a week. No fever but I've thrown up in my mouth twice since it all and today I felt like I was going to throw up. I've been diagnosed with GAD for 6 years but has gotten worse over the last month since I had a traumatic experience that heightened everything. Went to Dr they said it was tension headache. I saw a chiropractor and since it helped with the pain but I have pressure all day in my neck where it feels heavy. Sometimes my eyes feel hot. My migraines made my head feel like it's on fire. Over the counter meds didn't work and Dr gave me a shot of toridol after 4 days and only relieved a little pain but not the pressure. I've been extremely worried. My next step is mri or cat scan. I had one a couple years ago that proved I had acute sinusitis but never have I ever felt this badly. Plus I've had a lot of lower jaw pain/tightness/weakness. Thx in advance!

I'm going to find out. I have an apt for Tuesday but it's been over a week so I'm here at urgent care to get answers, crossing my fingers. I'm just always afraid that it's much worse like meningitis or brain tumor but only thing I haven't had is a fever

Did it come and go? Did you have any congestion? I don't have normal allergies like active right now. Just a ton of head pressure off and on but when it's there I can't lay down or put pressure on any parts of my head. I've had days I can't even wear sunglasses because them laying on my nose hurt

I didn't even known I had a sinus infection, no drainage just major pressure all over, it took everything in me to go to work, it effected my everyday life. I went to the ER five times and to my regular NP at least 3. I also have diabeties and HBP so I was limited on what I could take.

Ct scan and mri shows nothing abnormal. Just like you, I usually drink quite a bit of water daily anyways (2 litres or more), eat alot of fruit/veges and take vitamins and supplements. Quit coffee since the onset of these symtoms. But what I haven't done is taking probiotics.
I went and bought some yesterday, so looks like I'll be Starting today

See I thought mine was started from sleeping on the couch with a crappy pillow but then questioned the celexa I was taking but was only on it for 1 day before it started. I went to urgent care he just gave me a shot of toridol again prescribed some muscle relaxers and sinus meds. It's been over a week and I still have the tightness in my neck pressure in the head and neck sometimes I feel hot to the touch but they said I didn't have a fever

Hello Tamara this dreaded pressure happened to me after I'd touched a tablet I hadn't taken for a while but symptoms came on a week later probably all not related however they came.on 2 hours or so after a large meal.
I've been like this now for 6 months! It's complete hell your certainly not alone your symptoms sound very similar to mine. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy it's that bad.

There has to be a reason and a cure. Never had it before. And it's exhausting. It comes and goes. No one has done an mri or a CT scan but they're ruling out anything serious when I do go. And def the more I think about it the worse I feel.

Your brain MRI will be normal. Mine was but they never bothered to scan my neck and most doctors seem so hard to push I've just lost my patience with all of the gps at my practise useless.
Instead now i take and listen to ideas off here and the email group set up by shaun and mainly just get on with my life best I can!
My anxiety has calmed down now but the pressure starts when I am fully conscious or move from my bed when I wake up lol
I find it funny when people say to me you only live once I think yes once is enough for me haha

Hello there I can't give good advice but I've been really good in terms of not taking tablets and drinking and It makes absolutely no difference what so ever.
I've had moments where it's been manageable to a point I can sort of function. If I take tablets that give me euphoria I kind of forget my symptoms, such as valium tramadol or other tablets with opium, but there only ever a one off and an experiment for now anyway lol feel your pain

I don't want to jinx myself, but these last two days have been soooo much better. I've been for 5 days on a nasal spray and antibiotic for acute sinusitis. I would advise anyone to do the same and see if you get relief. I'm starting to feel like myself so I hope and pray I found a solution to my problem. Ears still feel full of pressure and pop often but more in the evening. I hope this helped!!

Glad you finding some relief, I hope you get totally better. The symptoms of sphenoid sinus conditions are totally different from the other sinuses. Main symptoms being pressure that can be felt deep behind the nose, or on head, also stiff neck, and dizziness.
I have all these and believe it's because I have a blocked sphenoid ostia. This shows up on my scan but specialists still say my scan is normal. I believe that there is a condition that causes thick mucus to clog the Ostia and prevent natural drainage. If the blockage is successfully removed then all symptoms will vanish. I've had this condition for a year and a half. I think in your case it's more than likely you've had something called Isolated Sphenoid sinusitus. This is where the sinuses are inflamed and cause pressure as mucus can't drain. Once the infection is sorted you will be fine.

I have been adding the juice of 2 limes to my nasal rinse. This definitely helps after use. It stings a bit but I've got used to it. After having a hot shower and using the nasal rinse I actually feel fine. An hour or so later it slowly comes back. This to me proves the problem lies at the sphenoid sinus cavity. I want an ENT to operate and do balloon sinuplasty but then go in with a camera and look to remove the blockage for good. I'm from England and they won't do this on the NHS as the surgeon said it might not work. I'm going to end off paying £4500 to get it done.

Sinus rinse is NeilMed. You get sachets of salt solution to go with the nasal rinse. It's basically a plastic bottle with screw on top with a hole.
I make up the solution then squeeze 2 limes and add the juice. I then squirt up one nostril until it comes out the other nostril and then do the other side. Do 3 times per day. It's doing something, in my case probably breaking up the blockage. When I blow my nose there are little red specs of hard something. Sort of looks like bits that come off a scab after a few days. e.g if you graze you knee and it becomes sore then scabs over. How a scab got deep inside my sphenoid sinus I don't know.

This is my update:
Spent 20 days with severe headache, sinus pressure, stiff neck, head pressure galore. Every single day. Some where less severe some were more. After 3 different Dr's I was treated with amoxicillin and nasal spray for 10 days. It was gone for about 2 weeks. Now I'm noticing symptoms coming back including popping of the ears, and mild head and sinus pressure. Especially around my nose. I can't weargue sun glasses for longer then 2 minutes because the pressure is bothersome. So I'm taking another 10 days of antibiotics. I want it gone. But now I'm starting to think it could be something else?
new56862 tamara89

It does sound like you have a sphenoid sinus issue. The cavity is deep inside your head and it's hard for drugs to get there. As your symptoms improved but then got worse again it's likely that the infection didn't totally clear so has come back. See how you go with these meds, they might work this time. If not you need to push for a CT scan.

Can they also find out if your suffering from sphenoid sinus by looking through with a camera ? I've Been to the ENT Twice this year and had this done twice with everything looking good .
new56862 Theandrettiman
Posted
No you can't see sphenoid sinus problems by looking into your nostril with a camera. This is done whilst you are awake. They can go in with a camera and look but this would be done when you are knocked out.
I'm going private to have this done as I no that's what is causing me my problems. A CT scan is the best way of finding out. I had one and you can see the blockage in my left ostia but surgeon wouldn't operate as he said it might not work and would be a waste of NHS resources. That's when I decided to just go for it and pay someone.
What I want doing is balloon sinuplasty followed by a camera to see if the blockage has been removed and check the health of the inside of my sphenoid cavity.

Hi Sam,
I have the exact same symptoms as you.
I was first told I had eustachain ear dysfunction, then I was given anti biotics for a sinus infection but I still have the constant dull pressure pain in my neck and the bottom of my head. It causes nausea, dizziness, numbness to jaw and face and I'm worried it's something serious
I have a chiropractor appointment on Thursday so I'm hoping she can relieve some pain and help me feel better and I've got a doctor appointment on Friday and I'm going to ask if I can get a CT/MRI scan done just to rule out anything going on inside my head. I'm also going to book an optician appointment to see if it's anything to do with my eyes??
Did you get any results or advice from anyone about your symptoms?

Hi Laura, I am seeing a neurologist, he tells me since I've had it for so long it's not going to kill me, I find that hard to believe because it's so bad. It does seem to get worse at time but then it will get better. The doc says my symptoms are because if my back being so messed up, I'm having symptoms similar to a cerebral fluid leak, but it's strange because I'm not having these symptoms every day, it's once a week. After these MRIs they will do a spinal tap. My blood work was all good. So you were saying yur having these symptoms everyday? I couldn't deal with that
laura48798 SamanthaShearer
Posted
Yes I've had these symptoms everyday for about 3-4 weeks, I was on holiday for 3 weeks and I didn't suffer once, I think that was mainly due to not having any stress and that I had things to look forward too. As soon as I came back it started up again, so I'm putting it down to strsss, anxiety, bad posture (as I sit at a desk everyday for a job), seeing my chiropractor on Thursday so hoping she'll have some answers. I have had scoliosis since I was 13 so I've always had trouble with my back but never my neck/back of head. My first thought was brain tumour so hopefully I'll get an MRI scan to rule that out

What people oh here are suffering from is either a CSF leak or Intracranial hypertension. Both are spinal conditions which affect the brain. Symptoms include; headaches, pressure, eye pain, ear issues eg tinnitus, muscular pain such as neck, shoulder and back pain. A CSF leak is where there is a leak in the spine, this means there isn’t enough fluid to surround the brain. Intracranial hypertension is where your body produces to much CSF fluid so the pressure builds inside your head. This can often cause a cranial CSF leak because of the pressure.
CT and MRI scans often don’t show this. Lumbar punctures test for opening pressure which can help diagnose it but often as the pressure fluctuates the readings can be deemed normal, even if they are on the high side.
I’ve had this condition for 3.5 years now and only recently been diagnosed after 5 scans were deemed normal. There is a drug called Diamox that you can take, it reduces the bodies ability to make CSF fluid, if you take it and the symptoms reduce then you know you have it. It’s what indicated I had it through trial and error, also seeing a neurologist that specialises in this condition. A CSF leak can be fixed by a blood patch, Intracranial hypertension cannot be fixed but you can get a shunt fitted that drains excess fluid from your brain into your stomach which when done correct will enable you to live a pain free life. This is what I will have done in the future. Pass this info on as many on this site are suffering with it.

I also have this constant dull ache/pressue at the back of my head/neck which does not go away. Blood test and CT scans were all good. I can still function at work but I am dizzy and lighheated and somehow its affection my short term memory and also makes me fatigue.

Here is my nightmare.
April 9, 2009 I had an epidural for the birth of my 2nd son,the resident anesthesiologist tried 3 different times to give me my epidural, the final needle punctured my dura and the medicine went into my back causing immediate numbness from neck downward. Dr told me I may suffer from a bad headache. They decided to keep the catheter in my back to try and create a clot. I was discharged from the hospital on April 10 2009. Approximately 1-2 weeks later, I went back to my obstetrician and told her I was still having really bad headaches, I believe a blood patch should have been performed but they refused- told me it was impossible that it was still leaking.
NOTHING could prepare me for what I’ve been dealing with the last 9.5 years!!!
I suffered from debilitating headaches for one year, especially after going to the gym, I was vomiting daily from the headaches, the only way the pain would stop was if I lied flat on my back, the second I sat up, the headache was SEVERE. I noticed while going to the gym that when laying flat on my back and trying to raise my legs up (lower abdominal crunch) I would get a sharp shooting pain in my back where my epidural site was. I still this this day experience this when trying this exercise.
I couldn’t take care of my family. Thankfully after almost one year exactly those debilitating headaches stopped...... but I developed a very different type of headache/chronic pain, these headaches have been almost a daily occurance, they last for only about 30 seconds, they happen with changes in my posture. From sitting to standing, laying to standing, driving is the worst position for me. The pain is excruciating pressure and a severe pulling sensation that starts in my eyes and wraps around my skull down my back to where my epidural was. These artacks over the last few years are getting worse, the pain now radiates down my right leg and often the pain drops me to my knees.
When having these ‘attacks’ I can hear this loud wooshing sound, my ears are extremely muffled, my eyes feel like they are pulsating and I’m just in severe pain for about 30 seconds.
I’ve had MRI, MRI with contrast, CT scans, everything keeps coming up negative, they diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia.... which I 100% without a doubt DO NOT HAVE.
Dr just keeps giving me more pharmaceuticals and nothing is helping. The pain is so severe it feels like I have a rupture brain aneurism and my skull is going to burst open from pressure.
I’ve done a lot of research, 9.5 years to be exact. What I believe has happened to me is this: my dura was punctured which is obviously what caused those debilitating headaches for a year afterwards child birth, because my dura was punctured my body created scar tissue in that sensitive area of the spine, this causes flow issues with my spinal fluid. I believe I may have a rare disease called Arachnoiditis and possibly combined with hydrocephalus. This is a very rare and serious complication from an epidural which punctured the dura.
I’ve not gone to the doctor about my pain the last few years as they made it seem all in my head. That it’s the fibromyalgia. I’ve seen multiple people and none believe I have fibromyalgia I don’t have pain like that, it’s so different.
Prior to this incident I was in perfect health, never suffered from pain, never even had a headache before.
I have a dr appt on Tues Oct 9 2018, and I’m demanding to see a neurologist so I can tell them my story and send me for the tests that need to be done. I’m so frustrated with the medical system (I’m in canada). I feel like the doctors have been trying to cover up this whole accident. The first time the anesthesiologist missed he should have called the doctor in, even the nurse kept asking him if everything was ok. When he puncture me I felt this electrifying shock along my entire right side of stomach, I knew something was wrong, my husband thought I was dying that day.... that is my nightmare!!
How did you finally get someone to listen to you? What tests did they do that finally showed sometime??
I’ve started trying to keep track of all of my side affects as I believe they are all related to my spinal injury!
Symptoms I’ve been experiencing
Arachnoiditis/ hydrocephalus?
Severe pulling sensation upon standing
Severe hip pain right side
Pain radiates down legs
Throbbing in ears
Eyes pulsating
Nerve/electric pain right side
Wooshing sound in head
General foggy feeling all the time... out of sort
Bladder incontinence
Constipation
Neck pain
Pressure in jaw/face
Restless legs
Muscle twitching
Depression
Severe brain fog/forgetfulness
Severe fatigue
Can’t walk for long periods- severe back/hip pain
Flat on back- lifting legs cause pain
Most recent
Face pain
Pain in legs so bad I can’t stand
The hip/back pain is recent (1yeR)
Headaches waking me up

Hi, I have a lot of knowledge about this condition. You probably still have a CSF leak from your punctured dura. Over the years this leak may have partially sealed and now be intermittent. The body overproduces CSF fluid when leaking so when people heal they often get rebound high pressure. It does sound like this is happening to you. Get into see the neurologist, I would suggest a blood patch over the area of the epidural, this woukd hopefully ensure the leak was sealed. You then need to be prescribed a drug called diamox. This drug lowers the production of CSF fluid. Over time your body should adapt and go back to normal. The reason people get headaches is because the CSF fluid runs from within the spine to surround and cushion the brain. GOOD LUCK.
