I have this problem too! I also have tightness all the way up the right side of my neck, tenderness at the base of the skull, tight lat (right hand side) and tight trapezius (I think there could possibly be a pinched nerve there) It feels like a ball of energy that just wants to explode inside of my head. I have also began to develop this tic because of the muscular tightness and head tightness. Some days it isn't bad and some days its unbearable, where I find it even hard to communicate with people... I have been going physio for all the muscular tightness and it seems when my muscles relax my head tends to realx a bit too (but not fully though) It's great to know I'm not alone in this problem and it would be such a relief to get this problem sorted once and for all

Hi. Are to suffer with this dreaded head pressure, mine is behind the bridge of my nose sort of come from the ethmoid sinus area. I'm certain mine is not psychological. I'm pretty sure it's air that is trapped somehow and won't equalise without the outside air pressure. I'm looking to get interested people together who are interested in attempting to get better. Look to get this condition documented and doctors aware, might lead to some research. Let me know if your interested. Cheers

I HAVE IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE WOMEN HERE!  I had a radical hysterectomy last month and since then my pressure is gone. Examination of uterus and ovaries after showed i hadsevere Endometriosis. I can't medically prove the connection but I had the pressure for the last 7 and it's been just a bit longer when I started having female issues. If you also have pmdd, painful sex, pain with ovulating, etc and brain pressure I hope this helped.

Hi, we're you noticing these problems more around your cycle? Did you have the dizziness, motion imbalance, head pressure, ears feeling full, pressure in nose and cheeks? If so did it all resolve?

    Hey Alan,

Once again, I'm in a similar situation to most people here. Have had the routine investigations, scans etc.

Just curious as to how the last 3 months have been for you. Has there been any progress in your symptoms or any new treatments?

I would greatly appreciate any feedback you may have

Hi. What are your symptoms? Mine are pressure sort of behind the nose and between the eyes, this is made worse when moving head and especially when bending over. Constantly dizzy because of the feeling of something in my head.

Popping my eares helps which is why i think its connected to the inner ear and eustician tube. 3 weeks ago, whilst i had a lot of head pressure I was popping my ears and air released from my left ear. After this I felt great, no pressure, no heachaces, no dizziness. Sadly over the next few days it just built up again. I think a lot of poeple on these sites are experiencing very similar things. Doctors seem to think air can't come out of your ear unless you have a perforated ear drum. I however have proof it can and believe many on here are suffering from the same thing. Do you pop your ears by holding both nostrals and blowing and does this help with relieving the head pressure?

Hi all new to this site, and am experiencing same things as some. Had pain in my head and eyes now for about two years like a pressure/squeezing feeling makes me grumpy and agitated don't wanna do anything so went to drs when it first happened and fobbed me off with tension headaches and stress even though I'm not stressed. Was prescribed amitryptiline and naproxen and must say after few days felt on top of the world and continued on them for a while. Then dr wanted to stop it to see of was ok and was fine until little over a month ago and came bck went to dr said it was sinusitus and was prescribed the above again only coz I knew they helped and they did. Was great until a few days ago when ran out of amitryptiline and now bck again but worse I feel sick and was this morning yest I felt like I was gonna pass out my head feels heavy and still pressure feeling in my eyes and sides of my head. Just want to know how some of you had the dr send you for scans etc coz my dr never mentions it just fobs me off I live in uk so no private health care just nhs and was wondering how to get them to take notice and say a scan is fitting to be done coz I feel it does blood tests are no good and can't get in my drs for two weeks as full but gonna get an emergency appointment later can't wait two weeks like this it's horrible I just no my head ain't right and something is wrong and it's a bad feeling makes me down and miserable my kids talk to me and I grunt coz just not with it. And I don't wanna feel like that also been getting a pins and needles feeling in my left arm and leg when the pain comes onto my left side of my head so dunno what it is. Hoping someone here can relate and let me know what they did. Thanks

      Hi Hopo

I have had this pressure feeling from behind my nose for 4 months now. It leads to headaches the more active I am. It sort of builds up as soon as I get up on a morning. It's such an uncomfortable feeling. I have a theory of what might reduce the symptoms. A grommet put into the ear drum. This basiaclly lets air in and out of your head so it will reduce the pressure. I've found I can reduce the head pressure by chewing, yawning and performaing the Valsala manourver (popping ears). Popping ears is the best way. 6 weeks ago I popped my ears and I'm pretty sure I perforated my left ear drum, it must have only been a tiny whole as must have healed quickly. Ait then flowed out of my left ear, just as if you had a punctured tire. After this all of my symptoms were, no head pressure, noi heachache, no lightheadedness. Sadly over the next few days the pressure built back up again.

Do you find that when your ears pop it eases the pressure? I've tried amitryptiline, only for a couple of weeks, saw no effect but to be honest that's usually more effective for migranes of which I don't have. I've also been on loads of drugs doctors have tried to no avail. I've had an MRI, which came back clear, but was refused a CT scan. They just don't want to pay the money for it (I to live in the UK on NHS).

I saw specialist for the second time today and he basically said there was nothing he could do. I ran through my theory about putting in grommets but because there's no research out there that it might work he said no to putting in grommets. I have a second opionion on Thursday so going to push it to try see if it works.

You definitely sound identical to me as regards how it feels. I totally understand the symptoms sad

Yeah it's a right pickler ain't it, there's a part at the back of my head that feels tender when I yawn or move can feel the pain so been massaging it most of the day and dunno if its all in the head but seemed to have eased it a lot.

Omg I'm so happy I'm not alone I thought I was losing my mind, I've been having the same exact symptoms for months now & doctors can't figure out whats wrong I've just about lost all hope I know this hasn't been posted in in awhile but if anyone has had any positive solutions that help with all the pressure please let me know.

Your not alone amber, what symptoms do you experience? Ive found no real solution either and my drs are useless. Been like this for two years off and on amitryptiline and naproxen seem too work for me no other painkillers work. Yesterday was the worst day my head felt real bad and today wasn't the best but seems to have perked up tonight now not much pressure in my head and eyes but it still feels heavy as if it's being squashed from inside out. If you need to chat feel free to message me

I wish we could all get some relief from this, I have it right now again as I type. Like yours mine varies too.

It's crazy and driving me insane. I feel physically ill with it too because it's so stressful, makes me feel like I am dying. Yet here I still am haha

Same here as I'm writing this sat in bed watching TV I feel great like I was before it started. But no doubt tomorrow will be a bad day.

I've been on amitriptyline for about a week and a half now been to 4 different doctors, where they gave me bulb a tab or something (had no effect) cipro (in case of sinus infection, still nothing) was then put on baclofen same results and the immatrix and then topamax as always did nothing. My recent doctor put me on the amitriptyline and I feel like it somewhat helps but the pressure is always there mostly on top of my head, forehead sometimes the back of my head where my neck meets the skull and in between my eyes and eyebrows. I get random dizzyness, lightheaded throughout the day and lately it feels like im not even existent. Mind you I work for napa so all my garages know what's going on because I used to be the happiest perkiest person ever and now I'm always quiet in a daze going thru the motions so after having to explain what was happening to them a lot had different ideas which I tried they included ibuprofen 800mg, zertec, excedrine migraine tyenol, none have any effect, one garage tho told me about nasal buster it's a nasal spray what he failed to mention was it had peppers in it, so on one of my deliveries I stopped at cvs, spent 17 bucks on this little bottle went back to work and gave it a try, we'll it resulted in me practically yelling every swear word known to man because of the burning in my nose from the capicisian or w.e it's called in it, but it did give me 5 minutes of pressure free relief b4 the pressure came back. So burning sensation for 5 minutes of relief wasn't really worth it, and after all the forums I've read so many people with the same exact symptoms with no solution in sight is just making me feel worse.

Yep sad I have extreme symptoms in the back of the head too mainly, that's where I feel most of the pressure and strange feelings at times. My ears feel crazy, my legs feel all numb sometimes. I try and convince myself that it totally is not anxiety and then sometimes I try and imagine it might be, but then I just don't think it is because it happenes when I am totally not worried about anything sometimes. It's just a physical problem I truly believe, one that hasn't been diagnosed, yeah okay, it might not be life threatening which is what the doctors try and tell me, but it's very hard to accept that when the symptoms and the pressure is so bad sometimes sad

I want to go back to the gym and workout again, because I have lost loads of weight with the stress this has caused, but I can't do anything remotely physical because the pressure comes on so intense if I do. It's like I am truly trapped. Like you, I snap at people, grunt, seem in a bad mood, but because I can barely lift my head sometimes it feels like. Also worth noting, I have notice my neck cracking a hell of a lot lately too, mainly probably because I am constantly moving it because I try and 'shake' off the headache sort of thing. I just wish somethign could be done to make me feel normal again. It's literally ruining my life. I cannot do anything I used to do sad

I hear your pain nothing at all helps I do suffer from sinus I think as my nose is always blocked and alternates between each nostril all the time. And I no the sinus is located behind the eyes so may well be that but my doctors are so useless they can't come to a tidy diagnosis just feel like they think I'm a liar and making it up. I must say though the amitryptiline and naproxen work wonders together but soon as I've run out they are back again so will be getting a perscription of both again and see if it stops so that I can get back to being somewhat semi normal.

The dizziness is the worst part for me, the most frightening sad

I get random head rushes, like WOW, and everything just feels all randomly wobbly, like when you do a handstand (not that I ever could now), but it's that same feeling sometimes just randomly, but it happens every single day on and off. I have tried so many medications and I actually had all of this over 5 years ago and guess what? It went away for over a year, nearly 2 years in fact, which makes it so terribly distressing that it came back 6 months ago and won't go away. I cannot remember for the life in me how it went away before though and now I think I am seriously ill again all over again.... Sigh

Yeah I been getting like a pins and needle like feeling practically all the time dunno if it's related or maybe a panic attack of some kind worrying about what the hell is wrong inside. But like I said been back now for about three days and tonight now I feel great but tomorrow now will be the same no doubt. Just hope I can get my tabs off doctor and return to my normal self, I still have naproxen left and take them but coz I've run out of amtryptiline the naproxen is not helping on its own.
    • Posted

Yeah not sure how mine went the last time but it was nice and now back again so hope it goes.
    • Posted

Yeah man sad I have had severe panic disorder before in my early tewneites and also when this all started again this year, but I have stopped having the panic attacks now, which only fules it more in my mind that it really isn't anxiety, because like you I get the pins and needles stuff going on, it's deeply uncomfortable and I cannot stop it from happening, no breathing technique works, it's juts a genuinely physical thing. Yep, and at this exact moment it feels bearable, to perfect but bearable to the point I can go on the computer for a little while.

Tomorrow it will work like this: Wake up in the morning, for around 5 minutes as I lay there I don't feel any pressure, it's like being normal again, then bamn, out of nowhere all the extreme symptoms come on as soon as I start moving around. Then it gets worse and worse all day and always reaches its peak at around 6pm, then I literally have to go and lie down every single day at that time because I genuinely think if I didn't I would faint and I don't fancy taking the risk. I never do faint by the way, but I always lie down when the dizziness goes terrible, so god knows if I ever would. Sometimes it feels like I am battling to stay conscious if that makes sense bacuse the feeling is so heavy on the head and eyes.

Sorry for the typos, typing way too fast and tired haha

Yeah same here it will be ok for five on the morning and within an hour or two it will be like it all day until I go to bed with the exception of today being not bad. But even a good day my head feels heavy and like a congestion feeling or that someone has wrapped an elastic band around my head and eyes. What ever it is is killing me mentally nearly passed out yest as that was worst day but I got up and went out and was ok came home and bam hit me again.

I get the pins and needles feeling in my hands sometimes, my arms always go numb and sore even my legs sometimes too, I feel like it's all related somehow I just wish I knew how. I used to get the pressure with a really bad migraine maybe once or twice a month and all it took was one ibprofen 800mg, but the last 3 months they become more frequent and the ibuprofen doesn't even touch the pain anymore. As for the stress & anxiety I have a million fears and am always stressing I have been like that all my life, but I've never been treated for it, and if anything my stress and anxiety has decreased the past year up until now cuz I'm petrified of needles and my pain tolerance is like negative a million and everything people have listed to get done scares me even tho everyone I've read pretty much has had normal mris and cts. But some people spoke of spinal taps and a few other ideas that are only making me freak out more
    • Posted

Yeah it's made me wonder about MS and things like that sometimes. I suffered from extreme anxiety as a result of it, horrible panic attacks and stuff, but that obviously makes it worse because then when I get the symptoms totally unrelated the doctors just say 'anxiety' 'tension headaches' etc. I know for a fact it isn't, I feel ILL, like actually ill, it's just not normal. I have the exact same things in the arms and legs too, but is it constant worry and stressing about it that causes us to feel those other symptoms too. I think it is so unfair how we are left with no answers and we basically just have to hope nothing serious is wrong with us sad
    • Posted

I've never been referred for any scans as my doctors seem to think I'm not in a bad way to have them done even though I clearly am they just think I'm lying or it's all in my head. So dunno what to do will ring doctors tomorrow see if I can get a repeat perscription for my fav tabs lol and see if after a few days I feel normal again.
    • Posted

Yeah makes you think how can you not be or feel anxious when you got this thing in your head and eyes you know just ain't right. Your bound to have some form of anxious feelings or panic attacks coz we always think the worst like my worry is it a Timor of some kind and the added worry is my doctors won't give me the scans to dissprove that theory just say no tension headache or sinusitus blah blah make you feel like the smallest person in the world. A great doctor told me once before you don't treat the illness you treat the patient and it worked if every dr was like that things would be great.

I might have to give into my tablet phobia and try these tablets you take. When I had all these similar problems before 5 years ago I DID actually get some scans, which I think is important to add and maybe put some people's minds at ease. I was so desperate I paid privately myself to see a neurologist who agreed to get me a scan of the brain. Anyway, within the space of 2 years (the duration this hell went on for) I had 2 brain and neck MRIs and a CT scan, all clear, literally nothing wrong with them visually at all.

I was shocked to say the least. Anyway, yes the symptoms feel similar again now, but I just feel as though this time they are worse or that it's something else. I can't actually remember just how bad it was the last time because it's been so long, but obviously it's liek my anxiety is fuelling it saying 'yes but what if this time it is something serious' and so we have that viscious, horrid cycle sad

    • Posted

That is exactly right and that is what my worst fear is too, amongst other things that I won't say to worry others. But as I say in the other response below, I had scans the last time I had this and they were clear, and what I have now is very similar symptom wise but I am still scared again because I always think again what if. I just want it to be proven again once and for all, give me all the tests and just show me nothing is wrong and I know I can move on from this, maybe the symptoms wont go straigth away, but at least I could try excersise again and stuff to try and maybe battle it a different way. Whereas now I worry so much that I honestly don't dare do anything to physical because I think what if it makes me faint because the pressure is so intesnse etc.
    • Posted

Yeah like a viscious circle I would just like to be given the chance for a scan least then I can stop worrying and who knows by setting my mind at rest will make this pain somewhat easier to cope with.
    • Posted

I'm the same tried exercising earlier and couldn't get myself into it coz of this thing in my head and just my concentration was focused on the pain and felt weak.
    • Posted

Yeah man it's horrible sad You could always try and get a scan privately, I saw some for £290 just for the head, an MRI which is quite cheap compared to some. Also the excersise thing. My mate tried to take me back to the gym a few weeks back, well what a disaster, I was only there 5 minutes the first weigths I lifted made my head feel like it was about to burst so I had a full on severe panic attack and had to get him to take me to a&e. It's just unbearable what I have experienced these past few months.

I even tried to hand myself into the mental hospital as crazy as that sounds because I was basically saying, okay then if you think nothing is physically wrong with me then I must be mental then!!!!!!! because how the hell can I have such extreme symptoms if nothing is wrong with me, so it must mean I am crazy. ANyway, they turned me away because obviously I am not mental, but honestly the depression and isolation I felt after that made me feel hopeless, I had a nervous breakdown. My fiance couldn't believe what was happening to me, my mum had to move in for a few weeks to look after me, I couldn't eat, I couldn't do anything, I just started having 3-4 severe panic attacks everyday because I was so scared on the head symptoms and felt like no one would listen, no one would help, I rang about 9 ambulances in two weeks, went to the doctors every day for nearly two weeks and not one of them would recognise the severity of what I was feeling. I couldm't stop crying everyday all day, I would shake uncontrollably for hours and I literally couldn't control it. My head would go numb, my hands would stop working, I'd get so many horrible symptoms and I just had to lie there and cry and hope it would go. All hard to admit as a man, but in the end this has almost destroyed me again and I feel so let down by doctors. Somehow anyway, I have managed to come out of that state of severity but I am far from free of the physical symptoms, they just won't shift sad

You could literally be me. I'm 40 years old, always been fit and healthy. Had loads of tests and I'm in great shape, all apart from pressure inside my head. For me it's always there when I move and causes headaches. I to have been very low and had panic attacks. I could bate the pain if I new what it was and knew I'd get better, problem is it seems we have something so far undiagnosed. When pressure feels heavy I pop my ears giving me temporary relief, this is why I want ENT specialist to put a grommet in my ear to see if this equalises the pressure. I'm 99.9% sure what we are experiencing is some type of air build up in our nose/head cavities. I've mentioned this before but 6 weeks ago whilst popping my ears, air came out as if it was a punctured tire. I must have made a tiny perforation in ear drum which released the pressure. I felt great after that, sad to say within a day or two it all came back. There def needs to be some research conducted about this as it's ruining peoples lives.

Hi. Sad to hear another person living with this.

I've been going through this hell for over 4 months, started gradually but now I seem about the same every single day.

Wake up some days with pressure, some days without, I think it's down to position I sleep. As soon as I get up and start my day it builds up.

I get the pressure from behind the bridge of my nose, this leads to headaches and feeling dizzy.

    • Posted

Hi Hopo. I know what you mean. I tried exercising but that just builds up the pressure and gives me massive headache. It's the uncomfortable and painful feeling you get whenever you move.
    • Posted

Yeah makes me feel like I'm mental coz doctors don't believe well morning time now here and already can feel it creeping up on me slowly so snother day of this pain. It's like I have a loose elastic band around my head and slowly it's tightening up and up till it squeezes my temples and make my eyes feel like they popping out.
    • Posted

I'm starting to think if it's to do with our sinus coz they are little air pockets or holes behind our eyes and if like me your nose is constantly blocked then that could be it but just seems a silly diagnosis coming from a doctor you no what I mean.
    • Posted

We'll like I said was on amtryptiline and naproxen and soon as they finished it came bck but I'm ringing the dr this afternoon coz we can ring lunch time and talk to them gonna tell him it's bck again Nd tell him I want a repeat perscription of the above and I will chronicle my journey on here so to speak and let ppl no if I return bck to normal. If so I'm sure it's nothing life threatning as the above tabs wouldn't work and see where I go from there
    • Posted

So did amtryptiline work for you? I tried this but came off it because of side affects, probably didn't take it for more than 2 weeks.

If you bend your head down does the pressure increase? It does with me, it's as if there is trapped air in my head that doesn't equalise to outside air pressure.

I agree it definitely has something to do with sinus or nasal cavities within the head. I've had MRI scan and docs say it's normal, no sinus issues either. I've also had a problem with my eyes, they are more light sensitive and I'm seeing quite a few eye floaters when outside in the light.

The thing that makes no sense is how can there be pressure without anything physically causing it?

    • Posted

No nothing when I bend down, but at the mo I feel very sick so not sure if it's related feels like it is. Trying not to think of it but it's hard when my head feels like it's being squeezed.
    • Posted

Yes people keep saying to me just ignore it but because it's your head it affects everything. My eyes seem under pressure because of it and I seem to be more light sensitive to bright light or out side when the sky is white with cloud.

Are you from the UK? I'm thinking of rounding up people like us to try and take our symptoms to some research universities or hospitals. There are a lot of us out there or various sites like this one.

I hear ya about the doctors not believing. There have been a few who have told me it may be a psychological problem, or that I need to live with it, or that it's in my head.

I think I am super late to this forum but everything you have said is like you have been describing my life. I'm only 22 years old, having all the same symptoms. It started for me when I was around 19 with having a blocked nose all the time, I then started to develop severe pain in my head, ears & neck. Was told on multiple occasions it was probably a sinus infection and put on antibiotics but it never did any good. I do have allergies & asthma and been told that it was that so been put on different steroid nose sprays & tablets, all of which don't seem to do any good. It never goes away, It does however tend to get worse when the weather is bad. Got my first CT scan this week. Terrified to see what the outcomes are. Sitting here typing this and I can barely move my face the pain is so bad. My ears hurt, my whole neck feels tender, my face head & back of my head are all in severe pain. It definitely feels like my head could explode at any moment. I too have experienced muscle pain, pins & needles etc leading me to panic about having other medical issues. It just seems like I can't go a day without feeling awful anymore. I don't remember what it's like to enjoy time spent doing things I love without this big weight over me stopping me from enjoying life. Really hoping for some answers after my scan. And hoping for nothing to severe, as you said it does feel like you are dying and that there could be no other possible reason why you could feel this terrible.

I have this to! For five months straight. As soon as I get up I get pressure and tightness behind my nose and into my head! It causes pressure headaches . Have you figured it out?!
