Hi! I hope this thread is still active as I’m losing hope and feeling very alone. For the past two months, I’ve been experiencing allover head pressure, and it’s really been debilitating. It’s also occasionally accompanied by a “burning, acidic” sensation in my head as well that’s equally disturbing. I’ve been getting some random one sided headaches that last for a few seconds but can get really extreme every day as well. I even had a prickly, strange back of tongue sensation. I don’t know what to make of all of this. It feels like it’s never going to end and it’s affecting my quality of life. I have anxiety, but I’ve been managing it really well and not putting any stressors in my life for the past two months. And it’s not allergies either. I got a CT scan today and my brain looked “great” so I should be reassured but I’m not because I still don’t know what’s going on (I was hoping it would just be a sinus issue). I’ll see a neurologist soon, but I’m just concerned they missed something in my CT like bleeding. I don’t know, I feel like I’ve seen every doctor ever, and I’m just so hopeless. I’m not myself.

I got it at the tail end of living in a house with extreme filth and mold issues (baaaad roommate situation), I wonder if mold and toxins could play a roll even though im moved out?

Hi, you have a condition called Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. You have to much CFS fluid around your brain and thats whats causing these symptoms. Its good you see a neurologist soon as thats the right doctor. This condition doesnt show on scans but a good test is a Lumbar Puncture to test for opening pressure. normal is between 10-15, high is 25+ but mine was 21 and i still got diagnosed as high. Ask for a drug called Diamox, this lowers the amount of CSF fluid that surrounds your brain and eases the symptoms. Lots on here are suffering from the same condition, I was on here myself 3.5 years ago asking the same questions as you. Finally Im diagnosed but it took 3 years as nobody could inform me of what i had. GOOD LUCK

I came to this forum a while back, after suffering for nearly a year with an all day every day headache, looking for some support/guidance etc. I saw my primary several times as well as my OB had an mri/xrays blood work etc. I thought I was dying of brain cancer, brain tumors etc. Reading the comments on here made me even more nervous I finally saw a neurologist - I was diagnosed with acute migraine syndrome and put on a daily dose of amitriptyline . It has changed my life. I used to sleep less than 3 hours a night, was nervous about my headaches etc. Don't rule out migraines. They are awful amd i dont like the idea of a daily medicine but i feel like me again. And thankfully it was not anything that required a spinal tap or surgery etc. If your head hurts see a neurologist! I was in pain for months because of the headaches.

It could also be NHPD . No need to spell it out just google it especially if you can recall the moment you started feeling pressure. i assume thats what mine is. tried everythimg still have it 16 months now. if it persists and its not life threatening living with it isnt so bad once you except its forever

hey guys, me again. i wanted to update everyone on my story. here it is in full with more detail, let me know if you have any leads!

The last week or so of September, I was getting over a cold and a tooth infection, busy with moving and working on some short films, I was super stressed but it felt productive. For a year, I had been living in a mold infested, horrifying house situation where I lived in the moldy basement room. So stressed, sick, and all, I was excited to move out.

The night before our last shoot, I pulled an all-nighter making props in my then gross house. I started feeling dizzy and lightheaded during the shoot but thought it was just stress and no sleep. That night, I got a full 10 hours of sleep and went to work like normal the next day. The day was going fine, until about 2 hours in. I was walking around with my coworker at work when I got hit with an intense bouncing sensation in my body. I was lightheaded, super dizzy, and had no clue what was happening. I got hit with the most intense anxiety I had ever experienced because I thought “This must be dying.” Everyone thought it was just exhaustion and lack of food/water. I sat down for an hour before being picked up and taken home to rest. Once the bouncing sensation subsided, I was left with this intense all-over head pressure.

After that day, I experienced head pressure for 3 weeks straight. I went to see the first doctor (at this point I wasn’t set up with a primary care provider) and they loosely diagnosed me with vertigo, perhaps from the cold I had just gotten over. But it never went away until the second week of October.

I was feeling great and like I could live again, but just when I thought, it all came back a week later- and worse. Now the last couple weeks of October, it started with a burning sensation. Almost like an acidic burn feeling but in my head. It lasted half a week, and then was seemingly replaced with the head pressure again. A weird, oval shaped, scaly patch of skin appeared on my neck. It was red with a white ring. I saw a dermatologist who prescribed me fungal cream, and it didn’t work, she told me to keep trying it. I saw a second doctor and she was bamboozled by my descriptions of symptoms. This is when I started feeling reeeeally alone. She put me on allergy meds and told me to get glasses. I did both. Neither helped. I also noticed I have a consistent weird, metallic taste in my mouth.

In November, other symptoms appeared. An annoying and rather strong tingling sensation on my tongue, like pop rocks. It would just happen randomly. I started to get really intense headaches that would move location and not last too long- just every day. I had CT scan done- nothing. I started getting buzzing sensations in my head (I think called “brain zaps”) randomly (I haven’t had one in awhile). I noticed I had a painless, swollen posterior cervical lymph node. A lymph node that I have only seen swollen before when I had mono in early 2018. My anxiety was peaking around this time- my panic disorder was in full swing and I had seemingly developed more generalized health anxiety. Every day is a battle with it. I noticed I had developed sleep issues- not falling asleep for hours, and waking up constantly in the night. Seeing flashes of light when my eyes are closed and the room is dark. Hearing things that aren’t there, like my dog barking when he’s actually fast asleep. And every few weeks, I would have a week where every night I would get this really unsettling sensation of my head building with pressure and lightheadedness and losing control, like a familiar sinking sensation, but worse. And it would help everytime I close my eyes to fall asleep. Even seconds after, seemingly. More recently, I’ve been getting these shots of adrenaline randomly when I’m trying to fall back asleep.

In December, I had an extremely bad week of dizziness and lightheadedness- upon waking. One day it was so bad, I couldn’t get out of bed and had to call an ambulance. The ER said I clearly had a gait issue but couldn’t help me because my vitals were fine. They gave me Meclizine and that kind of helped but barely. It ended up helping more with the nausea I started experiencing that week too. I saw the dermatologist again. She prescribed a steroid cream and the rash finally went away. But I still have no answers to what that was. I started seeing my now primary care provider, who is a “functional medicine” type doctor. She had me get extensive lab work done: blood tests (Lyme, autoimmune markers, vitamin levels, all kinds of things), breath tests, and stool tests. Only thing that came back was that my Vitamin D was low. I also had an ultrasound of the lymph node, which all the said was “yes, it’s a lymph node, nothing we can do about it right now”, so my PCP says we should watch it and biopsy if it’s still there in a month or so (which it probably will be at this rate). I finally saw a neurologist, after being told at the hospital that ultimately that’s who I need to see. She ordered an MRI of my brain, and it came back fine, so she pretty much now is saying she has no idea what’s wrong with me if the MRI is okay and doesn’t know what to do with me. I got a prescription for Lorazepam again to help with the panic attacks or high anxiety, and my PCP put me on a huge vitamin regime along with a natural sleep aid and anxiety aid. My anxiety started to get better and I was trying to force myself to live life again.

This month, the lymph node is still swollen. I’ve noticed I’ve gotten some icy-hot/cold sensations in my head. I had a really unsettling sensation for about three days in the beginning of the month that’s harder to describe but I’ll try: it felt like my brain and head was literally turning off… like my thoughts were slow and there was this odd feeling in the back of my head like it was localized lightheadedness, almost a numb sensation that intensified in waves and seemed to correlate with my brain foggy mental state. It was really scary. I’ve realized that I’ve also had a mild but persistent cough this whole time. The main issues this month have still been with the burning, headaches, pressure, and tongue tingling. I feel like they’ve been less intense, but daily issues nonetheless. Generally my symptoms present with one predominant one for a few days to a week, and then a new one becomes more predominant. Recently had an issue with tingling on the top of my head that lasted a week- plus, I get random tingling on my face, my fingers… nothing too intense. This week the sleep issues are worse and more apparent, and I woke up dizzy/lightheaded again and that follows me throughout the day. The feelings I get when I close my eyes are varied now, but all in the realm of feeling like my head is filling up with pressure like a balloon or building feeling of becoming dizzy/losing control. It’s so uncomfortable, it prevents me from sleeping. I also keep waking up with shots of adrenaline through my whole body. I’m due to get a sleep study done, so maybe that will result in some answers. I can say my anxiety is WORLDS better and I’m not in the same mental place I was with it all. However, without the intense anxiety, I’m still left extremely frustrated, sad, and lonely. I started seeing a chiropractor again to help with my chronic back issues, but he also noted that my neck and shoulders are abnormally super tight- so I don’t know if that’s due to what’s been happening or part of what’s causing it. I see my primary care provider this Tuesday so I’ll see what she thinks the next steps should be.

You have intracranial hypertension. you need a lumbar puncture to confirm this.

hi ive been experiencing Head pressure for 3 years.

done ct scans mri xray and they all came back good. this miystery illness is destroying my life ..i was wondering if anyone has found a answer. AND JUST AS EVERybody else says, the doctors are clueless. they diagnose you with anxiety or tension headache.

please we need answers anybody such a depression this head pressure puts you through.

This is what you have, I went through the same thing. You have something called Intracranial Hypertension. Basically to much fluid around your brain. Look it up then go see a neurologist.

It might not be that though as i have the exact same symptoms and have done for 7 years now. I've had all the tests and seen the top Neurologist in the United Kingdom and all they can tell me is Daily Persistant Headache since all the studies and tests have shown nothing. When I was in London there were several of us in the same boat

I can go a year without needing medication but it does come back so I have to use Amitriptyline which takes the pressure, spaced out feeling and pain away.

It is. Have you had a lumbar puncture? Neurologists dont know much about it as they wrongly think its an obese woman condition. Daily persistant headaches is caused by something, you dont just get them for nothing. Intracranial hypertension is the reason. Believe me or not, this is the best advice you'll ever see. They diagnosed me with headaches but i researched and after 4 years was eventually diagnosed.

Its not and its very silly to say it is when someone has been through over 30 tests and went through several studies too in London. Had numerous lumber punctures, standing, sitting MRi's...CTA guided and much much more.

Its not intercranial Hypertension which was ruled out after 6 months of my headache situation. Might be for you but its not for many of us

hi thanks for the reply. ... one question is , what test would show intracranial hypertension? is that something a test could even show?

ive done many mri ct and x ray so im thinking maybe i have been taking the wrong test? AND how ARE you feeling now? did it go away?

    • Posted

i suffer from head pressure but i use to get headaches all the time, i see you are mentioning headaches, do you also suffer from head pressure ?

    • Posted

you need a lumbar puncture to test fir opening pressure. If its high then thats your answer. Scans are always normal, thats why this condition is so hard to diagnose. You can take a drug called Diamox which helps lower the pressure which Im on. Im currently awaiting surgery though to fix it.
