Hi Kay99593
All i can tell you that your symptoms will subside but will take time. You have many of the symptoms that i had, the ear ringing, strange sensations, shaking and i also had paranoia. If your doctor was like mine, he will put it down to anxiety and give you the standard line about this drug having a half life of around 12 hours so it should be out of your system. They don't understand what this drug does. There is research which does suggest it may be a cause of tynitis and whilst most of my ringing has gone it has taken months but still not 100% gone. I wish there was a short cut and you could take something to get rid of these shakes, nausea,.... but sadly there is nothing. People said to me i should get CBT help which i didn't as there was nothing wrong but most people don't understand. Just hang in there and it WILL get better. At least you don't have paranoia which i had. All the best

I promise you, you will feel better with time. I've been in the exact same position and it does get better I promise. Rest up when you can, try some natural calming things like lavender oil in a diffuser or warm baths with lavender oil, they really do work. Hope you feel better soon. xx

Hey, I hope you're still active because I have a few questions:
I withdrew from Propranolol way back in late December, but I'm still experiencing withdrawal symptoms now that it's almost July. It's much better than it was before, but I still have the same withdrawals I experienced before, so I was wondering since you are aware that propranolol withdrawal is a real thing like I do and not some fictitous fantasy that doctors seem to think we're making up in our heads, are you still experiencing withdrawals now? Are you 100% back to normal? I just wanna get an idea as to when this will all be over.

I started on them at beginning of April 10mg 3xday due to health anxiety, however still felt not good and so it was suggested I upped it to 20mg 3xday. I did so which then caused muscle aches and twinges in my chest. Spoke to mental health nurse (gp triaged me to) and they recommended I reduced down to 30mg a day. In amongst all this I have a hiatis hernia and bowel issues which doesn't help situation. Still weird aches in chest and so spoke again to GP who said drop to 20mg for a week followed by 10mg which I'm now on. Only thing is the weird muscle pains are back and what with current situation is making my health anxiety worse. Are these normal when withdrawing as fell so strange?

Hi,
I'm taking my last 10mg tablet tomorrow. The aches and pains, especially in my upper body come and go in waves. I also find if I've been for a walk I can feel my leg muscles twitching!
I am beginning to get back my appetite but have noticed my night sweats from anxiety starting again.
I did some reading on some of the forums at the bottom of the pg on the nhs website. The thyroid one makes interesting reading. It seems like day 6 after stopping is worst and that 12 days before really out but even side effects after that.
Fingers crossed we'll get through it!

Im currently on day 2 of no propranolol and my heart rate shoots up with minimal activity. Im hoping it goes away soon. i was on 60mg of the extended release. i got diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a couple months ago and my doctor put me on propranolol to control my heart rate. my hyperthyroidism is under control and back to normal so my doctor thought it best that i stop the propranolol. I started taking it everyother day for a week and then stopped. is anyone else experiencing the same?

I'm so glad I've found this thread as I thought I was going mad. I've been on 80mg sustained release for 13 years and they've suggested I come off it recently in case it is impacting my breathing, and also I only take it now to starve off withdrawal, despite still being an anxious person. They don't do any other doses as a sustained release pill which makes withdrawal awful. And I hate how many GPs seem to have no idea or understanding of what withdrawal is like for some people, particularly after long-term use. Reading here it looks like people felt like hell after a few months.
Now I'm just so desperate to get it out of my system but I honestly thought I was having some kind of mental breakdown. The derealisation and depersonalisation is bizarre and scary, I feel sick and dizzy constantly and I'm so aware of my heart beat, which sometimes seems slow and other times very fast. I remember why I've not tried to come off it for so long now, which is what makes me so mad about drugs used to help people with poor mental health - they know so little about the the long-term use, side-effects and impacts of withdrawal, and they deny that they are addictive or hard to come off. My mind and body begs to differ - I feel like an addict! Feel so unwell, I've even had increased thoughts of suicide.
