Prostatitis with zero pain, just horrible 24/7 urge to urinate/frequency

Hello All,

I am a healthy 25 year old male with no history of urinary issues.

I am at my wit's end. Last Sunday, I started having terrible urinary frequency. I will literally go to the bathroom, urinate, flush the toilet, and then have to use the restroom again RIGHT AWAY. In other words, I have constant urinary urges 24/7... It has been this way for one week.

I don't have any pain or discomfort in my pelvic area, and there is no burning sensation during urinating. However, I feel as if the urine is at the tip of my penis - that is where the urge sensation is most prevalent. If I hold it for a long time and it accumulates, there is quite a lot of urine. However, most of the time (especially in the middle of the night) hardly anything comes out even though it feels so urgent.

I can't sleep since it feels like I have to urinate constantly... last night I was going every 5 minutes, and most of the time only a few drops came out. I am having anxiety now because of this.

I went to the urologist last Tuesday (2 days in). Urinanalysis showed no UTI and bladder ultrasound was okay. However, during the rectal exam, he said my prostate was "off" and did a test of the urine that came out after the exam. At that point, I was told that I had a prostate infection and that the enlarged/inflamed prostate was causing the frequency. In other words, there was bacteria.

I was given 500 mg of Levaquin to take once a day for 30 days. However, it has not helped after 6 doses. I'm trying Motrin (ibuprofen) to no avail. I was told it takes a while for the antibiotic to reach the prostate. I have no fever, and no chills.

I am terrified that I have the chronic pelvic pain (CPP) form of prostatitis. However, I don't know if I do, since (1) there WERE bacteria present upon running the urine after the rectal exam and (2) I have ZERO PAIN. The only symptom is the 24/7 need to urinate. Any ideas on this? I hope I have the acute prostitiis form since this is cured with more antibiotics, but if I have the lifelong CPP form I don't know what to do... I feel like I will have to quit my job since I can't sleep with the need to urinate.

Please help!

    Hi all,

I'm not sure if you all remember me from a couple years back. I was in so much discomfort that I was forced to keep in a hot bath almost 24-7 for the first month of these symptoms. If you read my previous posts on here I explain everything. I wanted to post an update on how I'm doing and what I've done to reduce my symptoms. I can say i'm about 100 percent back to normal although in certain stressful times or if i'm driving or sitting for long periods of time i get a slight discomfort again but only slight and it has never gotten as bad as the first three months. Its been a couple years now since I first felt signs of the horrible symptoms. So what I have is tight pelvic floor muscles. After a long and painful road I can assure everyone this is what I have. Due to many factors one being stress. I've always had really bad anxiety to the point that I have taken medication for it most of my life so I can be sure that has been a major factor. The way I fixed this is I went to the Pelvic Health and Rehabilitation Center in San Francisco where I live. I'm lucky enough to live only 20 min away from the place. After about 2 sessions they diagnosed me with a tight pelvic floor. After about 5 sessions in a month or so I felt a little better. They actually used certain pressure points in my thigh to prove that it was the pelvic floor. The dr. put pressure on certain muscle areas and believe it or not as she did that the symptoms and sensation went away almost completely and then when she let go I started to feel it come back. After about 3 months of sessions once a week I felt about 75 percent better. And after 5 to 6 months later I felt about 100 percent better. Now I've stopped seeing them as I dont need treatment anymore. If symptoms flair up they taught me certain things to relax my muscles and the crazy thing is I can actually feel knots where my muscles are tight that are causing my pelvic floor to tighten up. I hope this helps and gives hope to some people on here. Like I said you can look at my other posts to see what I had dealt with. Like some have said (I know its hard to understand) but stress can manifest in many ways and for some men and women its in certain muscle groups like the pelvic floor which unfortunately many common Dr. and physicians are not trained in. If you think about it many people with high stress it can manifest into migraines are back pain etc. for many of us on here it sounds like you just have to go through all possible things it could be and if nothing is coming back positive then you need to really look into a dr. who knows and can treat pelvic floor issues. This will not be fixed over night. It took about 3 years for me to find answers and finally a way to cure this so don't give up and it can be fixed!
