I also pull many leg muscles in various parts. Plus in my hands, jaw and even stomach. But they don’t last too very long. Wishing you well-

I am on 15 mg/ day, been only a month so far, and looking forward to decreasing dose.

Hi. Miki. Sorry that you are getting so many pulled muscles are you on Alendronic Acid tablets ? Or just the Pred. My last pulled muscle lasted for 4 weeks the one that I have now is still very painful to walk and this is day 2 .My starting dose was 15mg I am down to 10 mg and I think that I will reduce in March like you I can’t wait.

      Hi there Mike.

I went to see my GP to day and he has taken me off the Aledronic Acid tablets but he said that it will be a few weeks before they will be out of my system . Hope that you will soon be pain free 😀

It could be - but it could equally be the PMR. The pred doesn't cure anything, it just manages the inflammation and the underlying autoimmune disorder continues attacking your body making muslces intolerant of acute exercise. If you overdo things, anything can suffer. Too much exercise or an injury doesn't heal as it normally would - the pain is worse and takes a lot longer to improve.

Where is the pain at the top of your leg? Are you sure it is muscular?

Hello EileenH I did wonder if it could be PMR as I have been waking up in the morning with a stiff neck and that was one of my first symptoms of PMR but it wears off during the day. But I seem to be always hurting my legs the pain I have now is at the back of my leg from the knee upwards , last week it was the other leg. I am getting pretty fed up with always being in pain

Hi Eileen. I have had a thought could Alendronic Acid tablets cause this pain ? I started taking these tablets at the end off December and I had my first pulled muscle on the 24th December my Doctor confirmed that this was a pulled muscle or is this just a coincidence . Thank you

Yes - alendronic acid does list severe muscle and joint pain as a side effect - which is actually part of my objection to us being given it willy-nilly. We have quite enough muscle problems without adding to them.

Thank you. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in December so I have to take the alendronic acid tablets once a week. I will have to speak to my gp and see if there is an alternative tablet that I can take as I don’t want to be in muscle pain all the time. Thank you once again

When I began to recover, was down to 3 mg pred a day,  I tore a calf muscle with a resulting hematoma, leg swelled up, on crutches, and had to keep elevated and iced for 3 weeks. They thought it might have been a blood clot, ultrasound said no. MRI showed a hematoma compartmentalized in calf. Shaped like a 8 inch trout. No aspiration, It took about 2 months to be absorbed.

    Very painful.

Methinks could have been my sedentary year and when I walked up a ramp, the muscle tore. On remission, I think we need to take it slow.

    Good luck

    Dan
