Purpura, anyone?

Hello all,
I am 71 and for the past year I have had fissuring at the posterior end of the 'V'. Two months ago I noticed a small purple spot near the fissure and white coloring near the perineum. After investigating, I concluded I have LS, or at least the beginning. The purple spot (looked like blood pooling under the skin) went away after weeks, but after intercourse another appeared.
My question: Has anyone developed these purple spots (purpura) with LS? I know it can be a symptom, but I have read many posts here and have not seen it mentioned.
Thanks to all for your helpful posts!

Hello Wildflower,
Yes, purpura can be a sign of LS but from what you've described, it sounds like a vein has popped. The white is the better symptom by which to judge. Any other symptoms like itching or pain or split skin? Or reabsorbed labia?

eggbiscuit, I have no itching but split skin (fissures) which make intercourse impossible - no reabsorbed labia. The purple spot occurred directly after sex, so a popped vein is a possibility! I definitely have an area of white rather shiny skin below the vestibule.
Thanks for the suggestion - I know as we age skin becomes thinner and more vulnerable.

Hello,
I have not had or heard of purpura with LS, but fissuring is how it usually starts. The white spots are also indicative. I had a tiny white rim on the vulva long before I had the cuts after sex though, yet did not address them immediately. I would check with a dermatologist right away while you are still in the early stages.

Vita 23, I intend to make an appointment tomorrow. It will probably be weeks before I can get in, but I think I am at the beginning stages. My cuts are always at the posterior fourchette and can occur without LS. Thanks for responding!

Hi
Yes I had this at the start of L S it came because of trauma after using a road bike, I think my bits were so squashed. The area had a large purpura bruise on the inner minora and was white too. The dermovate cleared it up but it all disappeared anyway, the minora I mean. Watch any seams on garments, even crossing your legs and riding a bike can cause purpura. I also have ulceration in the fourcette area too. Hope that helps,

Sue, oh you did help! My first injury was in security at an airport. I went through the scanner and was told I needed to be checked. The only metal I had on was in my zipper! A woman agent frisked my body and she put her fingers up my vagina (I was clothed) and immediately I felt pain. She did this in public and I was so humiliated I just hung my head. Days late I was still hurting and lo and behold, I discovered a fissure and a purpura. Being 71, I know my vaginal tissues are fragile. I have scar tissue and a tear in the fourchette area as you do. I am very physically active - I hike an hour daily and I can't help but wonder if I am aggravating my condition. Thanks for all the good advice! Did you have a biopsy to confirm LS?

OH Wildflower that is absolutely awful at the airport,. I am certain she should of warned you what she intended to do. Its easy to say at the time but I would of said something back so bad I probably would of been carted off. I agree about been active, My gnaeo was useless very overweight and suggested I give up cycling I said no you do not need to there are appropriate saddles you can buy. I believe the skinny road bike saddle did it I caught myself in the crutch trying to put my foot down, I remember doing it and felt sore so got a mirror and looked. I read trauma can do it plus like you I am post meno so theres a factor there as well, If your spot is smaller I wouldnt worry too much, keep a check on it. Googling makes it worse. Yes I had three biopsies all inconclusive so it was by physical state more than anything. I just keep a check like we do our breasts and I try not to worry. Dont give up walking you enjoy it and it is very healthy. Stay happy x

Sue, I so hear you! Dr. Google can be terrifying, and if I go down that rabbit hole, I am invariably frightened. I am so sorry your biking has been hampered by your problems. It makes so much sense that a skinny bike seat could create these problems. Yes, I am certainly post-menopausal and have had fissures come and go over the past few years.....sex is painful but fortunately my partner is very understanding. I heal, and decide it's okay, and yep, there's that abrasion again. It is only about 2mm in size - very tiny. I am hyper-vigiliant about my body to a fault. I wonder how many women have these who don't check as we do! And yes, I agree completely to keep tabs on our bodies. Who knows them better than we? Thanks so much for your positive message, and no way will I give up walking! I can't get into a doctor for weeks, but my worrying has lessened for now. Happy biking! Blessings, Peggy

I had tears I am certain my seams on trousers caused it so I wear looser clothing now.

HI Wildflower,
The Dermovate is the U K brand of Clobetasol just a different name for the steroid ointment for L S. Do you use this?

Not trying to alarm but I have always heard about dark spots and didn't pay attention to them. I went to a doctor to do the Mona Lisa but had two biopsies instead and it is cancer. Please to careful and have a doctor monitor closely.

Nuttree, I am so so sorry! May I ask what kind of cancer you have and how you are doing?
The first time I had this purple spot a few months ago it vanished, and this current one seems to be getting smaller, but I will certainly heed your advice!

Thanks. We are trying to process this diagnosis - Squamous Cell Carcinoma in-situ. I go to an Oncologist on the 5th of Dec. I imagine surgery is in store. Just hope it hasn't spread.
I never imagined this would never happen to me since it is a low chance percentage. Just want others to pay attention. Early detection.
