Interested in hearing peoples symptoms and experiances with this. I had pvd of the left eye and sure enough 6 months later, right eye. Having problems dealing with it. When both eyes are affected, hard not to think of it 24/7. Would like to hear others stories. Thanks.

Hi Darren.
I also get some aching or strange feeling in my affected eye. Not all the time for me, it just seems to be when the blurring is much worse, but it is only in this one affected eye, the other is fine apart from remnants of a PVD from 2016.
I had decided it was psychological being that it isn't supposed to cause that problem, but really am not sure and can't give a reason. With this present eye PVD, it is now 19 months since it began. I don't get the flashing others have mentioned which must be even more annoying.

Hi Marilyn
Isn't it strange that all three of us have the aching in the eye?
I'm starting to wonder whether the pulling of the vitreous causes the eye muscles to ache?

Hi Marilyn,
Thanks for replying. The odd feeling is comparable to the recovery stage of an eye infection. It's very strange.

Hi Rhonda
Yes, very strange particularly as they say no pain. It does make me worry more though.

I feel a little better that the discomfort goes away for long periods though.

Does anyone have flashing in both eyes?
My first eye is settling, but I thought I saw a flash just now in the other eye which has worried me.
The hospital did say that I may have the same thing happen within a year.
I have nobody to take me right now - do I have approx 24 hours to have it checked out?

My PVD in my right eye was in 2017. My left eye was in 2018
I still get webbing. But the worst is when I am in a dark room, and I shift my eye side to side, I still get flashing on the outside of both my eyes
So annoying

Thankyou very much for this Lolasmom.
I'm sorry you've been having problems for so long.
The flashes worry me and I'm still getting a dull ache in my eye which my optician insists is not related to the PVD.
Very strange that it started the same time.
Hope you see some improvement soon.

Hi, I got the full ache but it did fail away after a couple of weeks. I hope this happens to you

Hi Lee
When the problem started in the second eye did you have it checked out straight away?
I have nobody to take me to the eye hospital right now (10 pm) - should I go in the morning?

Hi,no I don't believe I did,it's been a few years since it happened in my second eye. Knowing more about it after having it in the other eye,I probably had it checked within a few weeks. Honestly I was so freaked out when they both happened I obsessed about it all the time and my anxiety got very bad,now I barely notice anything as most symptoms are gone, accept some very annoying floaters. I get a yearly check up other than that,I now have other health issues to obsess about.

I haven't rushed to see anyone about my second eye PVD(almost 20 months in and still there). I had been reassured the first time, had a really good check over, and given a leaflet about PVDs. In that leaflet there were the signs and symptoms of a retinal detachment, which is urgent if it happens. But I didn't have those symptoms with this second PVD either. I have my regular eye test today so I will be mentioning it of course. But if anyone is worried, they should pop to their regular optician for a check and don't rely on what we say.

Thankyou so much for your post Poohtle it's really helpful.
Yes I was also given a leaflet by the hospital about retinal detachment.
I shall try not to worry and just be patient.
Sorry your PVD has continued so long.

Thankyou very much for this Lee🙂
I'm so pleased you're a lot better now!
I know what you mean about the anxiety though. It's on my mind all day some days.

Rhonda, do go if you are more worried or have the signs of a retinal detachment. I am just back from my optician. No problems apart from an early cataract which I did know about. I even had the new scan/test they do which you pay £10 for. Really interesting. Shows the layers of your eye and other things normal tests don't show. It even looks at the macular, and all was good there. At my age I did worry about macular degeneration so that is a relief. I mentioned my problem with the PVD and she just said, more compassionately than my past optician, that yes, they are annoying, but they don't really go away, you just kind of get used to them. I think the brain tricks you to thinking they aren't there(or something like that) Two new pairs of glasses coming next week. Maybe they will help a little anyway.

Thankyou for this Poohtle. I'm really pleased you were able to talk to someone who took the time to address your concerns properly.
Yes, I will see my optician again if I notice symptoms of Retinal damage.
