Interested in hearing peoples symptoms and experiances with this. I had pvd of the left eye and sure enough 6 months later, right eye. Having problems dealing with it. When both eyes are affected, hard not to think of it 24/7. Would like to hear others stories. Thanks.

    Hi Rhonda,

You know my condition, as we spoke a month ago or so. My flashes and floaters started first in my weak eye which is the left in May 2019 then in October 2019 so literally 5 months after my left eye I started to have the same symptoms in my right eye. I went and checked with my optician, she checked my retina and luckily nothing was wrong. I still have the symptoms now but they are less obvious... I hope this will end soon as it's very annoying. I am also thinking to go to the eye hospital to check again just in case. The floaters are sooooo annoying.

    thnak you x

      Hi Suzana

I'm so sorry you're still having problems. It's such a worry.

When you got the second eye checked did you go the same day?

I have a chronic illness apart from this problem and can't always get a lift to the hospital immediately.

      Is the next day ok?

Hope your situation improves soon. It seems very common to have both eyes affected.

      Hi all,

Just wanted to updated what I have been told regarding my condition. As I mentioned yesterday, went to moorfield eye hospital (UK) in the afternoon and they told me to come this morning at 8:00am, they didn't checked my eyes yesterday but this morning, they have done all the test and my retina is intact and very healthy (hoorayyyyy). I am over the moon now, very very happy. My anxiety drop to 0 now and I am jumping of joy. The doctor said that my vitreous is liquid and detaching nicely from the periphenal area and in the middle I have the jelly but that will become liquid eventually, he said that if I have sudden change in flashes, like camera ones and a light haze all over my vision with lots of black dots then to go in straight away. I have tones of floaters, he confirmed but it's very normal because I am high myopic also that the gel is separating. He explain everything to me, such an amazing dictor. He is high myopic too and he could feel my frustration as I was crying there. He told me that the arc flash which I am experiencing he had it from his teenager age and it's still there for him too. I am still at risk of retina tears because of my myopia as milions of people are also having the PVD so early it's a good thing as I won't have further problems in later tears. I also asked him how long does it take for the vitreous to be completed and he told me that it's not an exactly time, depends from person to person also he mentioned that by books it's weeks to max 6 months but every person it's different and it could last years. I am so happy now!

He made my day! Wishing you all the best and will keep you posted if something happens.

      God bless you all xxxxx

That is good news Susan, and for the rest of us who worry too. I am so glad you had an empathetic doctor who put your mind at ease. Now we can all relax, but keep in mind the signs and symptoms of a retinal detachment. Another thing I found out recently is that retinal detachments are rare. I think sometimes once we know our symptoms are not serious and should go away, they become less obvious and worrysome to us and we don't notice them as much.

2 years ago I didn't have an empathetic optician, and that was one reason I left it so long to go and see about this PVD. Your doctor mentioned that it could be years for things to settle and I am almost 20 months in with this one, so he has made me more relaxed about that too as it is oh so annoying. I am a worry wort and have a few chronic stress health issues going on, so that wasn't helping how I was feeling about my eye either.

      Hi Poothle,

He was amazing. The vitreous may take years to detach as I am almost 1 year with this symptoms but now I know what's going on. He also said not to worry so much as that makes the symptoms 10 times worse. I hope this will settle now as I am more calm now.

Lots of love to all of you xxx

    Hi all,

On my way to the eye hospital to be checked again if I have any retinal tears/detachments. Hopefully everything goes well. I am so scared. If i have a retinal tear I am gonna die of worries 😦. Does anyone here experienced a laser retinal tear procedure? Pray for me please to not have anything 😦.

    Thank you x

      Hi Suzana

      How have you been?

      I hope you're ok.

      update -

My first eye has settled and the flashing has gone thank goodness

      ( started in December 19)

My second eye is ok but I feel like I have a smudge on my glasses all the time, whereas it's my vision. I can see clearly with no flashes or floaters so hoping it's going to be alright.

      Hi Rhonda,

I am ok, thank you. The flashes are still going on in both eyes, nothing changed to be honest. The left eye started in May 2019 and the right eye in October 2019, it's very frustrating but I have to live with this. The eye doctor from the hospital said that this can last years, my PVD is liquid from the peripheral vision and in the middle I have normal gel, so it's detaching gradually but I hope this will end soon as it's agony.... flashes, floaters, smudges... all kind 😦(...

I am happy for you that at least one eye has settled xx

      Hi Suzana

Oh I'm really sorry you're still having problems. It's tough that we don't know how long these symptoms will last.

So pleased that we are able to chat here though. I find most people don't really understand how much anxiety this condition causes.

I really hope you see some improvement over the next few months.

    Hi Lee

    I hope your ok.

I'm a bit puzzled by some advice I was given.

It said I needed to return to the eye hospital promptly if I had a deterioration of vision, a shadow in my vision, or a "shower" of floaters.

I'm anxious today as I've noticed 2 or 3 new floaters ( none before - it was flashing I experienced)

It sounds a silly question but I assume a "shower" of floaters would mean many floaters which would be impossible to ignore?

    Many thanks.

a shower of floaters, usually would indicate a hemorage in the eye,I had that happen to me,it cleared on its own.

      Hi Lee

My eye doctor told me that a shower of floaters, kinda like a curtain of them coming down is a symptom of a retina detachment
