PVP Greenlight 12/6/16 My experience!

Posted , 13 users are following.

Over the next few weeks, I intend to chronicle here my experience following my PVP surgery.  I will attempt to as brief as possible.  I have heard so many horrible stories and warnings from so many men, that I thought I would relay my experience as it happens for those of you who might be planning your own PVP.

Had to be at hospital 0900 today.  Prep was minimal.  first step was to strip down to nothing and remove a wedding band that is now smaller than my knuckle.   Tests for blood sugar (I'm diabetic), blood pressure, and insert IV which took 4 tries.

A visit from the anestesiologist, and then my urologist. I asked him if I could give him some words of encouragement and he said sure.  I said, "Brian, don't f*ck up my dick"!  He gave me a hearty laugh.

surgery was scheduled for 1200 and by 12-7 they wheeled me out of prep room towards OR, but I don't think I ever saw it.

I woke up at1445.  Groggy as hell and with strong discomfort inside the end of my penis.with catheter inserted.  I got some pain killers, antibiotics, and anti-bladder spasm meds as well as some coaching on emptying the bag.

The nurse also secured the cath line to my inner thigh so that a tug on the main line wouldn't pull on the line into the penis.  There is not enough lead there and sitting on toilet promotes a pull of it's own.  Can't adjust it because there is a hard plastic connector in the line right there; so no alternative but to leave it be.

Was in the car at 1700  to go home just in time for horrific Atlanta traffic and took 1.5 hours to go 25 miles.

It's 2100 now and am getting used to the feeling of the cath in my trouser worm.  It's very uncomfortable but sensation pain has gone from about a 5 to a 2 or 3.  Bag has been emptied once but needs to be done again before I turn it.  Ate some dinner, a small pasta with broth and an egg around 1930.  Trying to drink plenty of water as advised.

I feel no pain whatsoever except for the point of insertion of the cath.  That is having a very calming effect on me, but, my dick does hurt.

Cath out Friday.

Report back tomorrow.

Feeling light headed tonight after sitting around watching tv and napping all day.  Taking hydrocodon for pain which works fine but thus, all the grogginess.

Blood in urine is turning more pink.  And pain at tip of penis is almost gone except when the tubing gets pulled by getting up or sitting down or just walking about.  But except for that I almost don't even remember the cath is in.  I often think I need to get up to pee and then I remember; I hardly have to get out my chair at all.  Would be very handy drinking beer at a pub.  Hah!

BTW - I am 64.  I had no pee issues after the cystoscopy exactly 2 months ago.

You should know that unlike a woman's vagina, your urethra (the tube in your penis that the catheter is in) has no natural lubricating fluid. As a result, the end of the catheter coming out of your penis will rub on it, cause it to bleed, and the blood will form scabs which will cause more abrasion, and even more bleeding and pain. The solution is simple. Several times a day clean that area with a cotton swab (Q Tip) soaked in a solution of 50% peroxide solution and 50% water, then apply petroleum jelly (Vasoline) based antibiotic gel (over the counter Neosporin) to the area with a cotton swab. That will keep the catheter lubricated, disinfected, and prevent the bleeding and most of the pain.

    Good luck,

    Neal

some thoughts from last night.  Was feeling a bit warm and took my temperature.  It was a mild 100.  Also, i've been taking medication for bladder spasms.  Didn't really understand what they were, but after going through a few, i finally figured it out.  It is an uncontrollable feeling like you are going to pee.  At times, it feels strong enough that I think I'm going to blow the catheter right out of my dick!  I found that if I flex my penis similar to squeezing the last drop of pee out, the spasm quickly subsides.

Got up today with pee color a tad lighter.  I decided to take a shower and shave which went well with bag on shower floor.

I am experiencing a good bit of pain at tip of penis from cath which whenever it moves irritates the hell out of my pee hole.  If not for that, I'd feel pretty good.

On a white horse, in rides NEALPROS with his suggestions for just what's ailing me.  After I finish breakfast of coffee and oatmeal, I'm going straight upstairs and follow his instructions.  The cath is secured to my inner thigh without any slack in the line and any movement tugs on the cath.  So, thank you Nealpros and I think I might try to rejigger the line with some more slack with some first aid tape.  Might shave my leg first though.

Feeling better than I had anticipated overall to this point and am grateful  for that.

Followed Nealpros suggestion and got some immediate relief.  I also undid the connection the nurse did at the hospital and secured the line to my leg a bit lower with more slack in it.  I can now take almost a full step without the tugging on the line that was irritating the urethral opening.  Before I was taking pathetic half steps to prevent that tugging.  Awesome difference.

I am glad that is working for you. It may take a day or so for the end of your penis to heal up. When you have the catheter removed at the doctor's office, you might explain to the nurse how to properly tape up a catheter bag. It's amazing that some people just don't think when they are doing their jobs. In any case, I'm glad that things are going better for you. Please share that tip with others.

    Day 3:

Had 2 bouts of diarrhea yesterday and felt queezy before bed so I took a lomotol - something to plug me up.  I know some men need stool softeners; but that was not my situation thus far.

Woke up last night 4 or 5 times last night with painful erections!  The tip of my penis was damn sore from the cath rubbing in and out with almost any movement despite my efforts to provide some slack in the line to prevent movement.  Always enjoy waking up hard; but the pain at the pee hole was not much fun.

The suggestions of Nealpros worked well for awhile but by the end of the day, I was as sore as ever.  Blood in urine was darker that the day before.

Went to Urologist this am.  Ran into him in the elevator.  He was on his way to perform a vasectomy so I never saw him in the office.  I was greeted by a pleasant and efficient nurse who directed me to get undressed and sit on the table covered up by gown.  I was fumbling with the hose and never got covered, still standing beside the table when she came back in.  She was startled to see me standing there naked and I assured her it was fine I was not shy.

She then prepared me to have the cath removed!  Found this curious since she had a good hold of my manhood in order to proceed.  First, she irrigated my bladder to the point I thought I would pee all over the room.  Then she removed the cath and gave me a bottle in which to pee.  Only did 200ml, but she said that was good because that was all she put in.  She took off the clamp stuck to my inner thigh that was put on over a hairy leg at the hospital, gave me a med to help with burning, and some antibacterial ointment which she told me to apply to the end of my penis where it hurt. Wish she had done it for me.  So there I sat naked with dick in hand applying ointment and we talked about going to nude beaches.  She couldn't bear to be seen herself; but didn't mind being around naked men at work all day.  Imagine that?

I got dressed, collected my goodies, thanked her, and told her I'd see her on the beach.

At home now and made some bacon and eggs.  Feeling a little light headed, so taking it easy.  I did have to pee when I got home. It hurt, but not terribly and because of crusted blood at the pee hole, it went in 2 directions.  Not all of it made the bowl, but I wasn't about to stop.  That is the next hurdle, being able to empty the bladder.  If not, I am to report directly back to uro or ER after hours.

It is wonderful not to have that bag and hose to carry around. That was so restrictive.  And, I am impressed with my new found girth.  I've never been as large as that.  The price of course is pain from swelling which will subside.  The old dog, my dick, has been through alot this week and I am looking forward to leavng it alone for awhile.

    Day 3 PM.

Well, I have peed so many times since coming home today, that I've lost count.  It seems every 30-90 minutes I have an immediate urge.  have taken to sitting as I cannot control where it will go.  The stream is split in 2 from dried blood and who knows what, so I'm usually not sure which of the 2 to aim for the bowl.  the stream is good, but short.  There never seems to be alot and that is a concern for tonight because I'll be going and going.  I was given meds to reduce the burning feeling which colored my pee blue.  But now it is mostly clear!  I believe that is a good sign.  spent the past 7 hours putting up Christmas without incident except for having to stop and run to the crapper.  I'll check back tomorrow.

Oh, had wine with dinner tonight and a bourbon before.

Hang in there. The swelling will go down eventually. You will learn that the burning is onnly temporary and will go away quickly. Just breathe and relax to empty out as much as possible. When I was healing I was putting out only 10ml-20ml. Now I am putting out 150ml-200ml. It gets better each day, Your bladder also has to adjust to the new level of pressure. Mine has begun to calm down and gets better each day.

    Day 4 am:

Felt pretty good last night; sufficient to help the wife put up Christmas decorations.  I have outdoor stuff to deal with today.

Only got up to pee twice last night.  Continue to sit as I don't know yet where the split stream will land.  Pee is blue to clear which is due to the meds to prevent burning.

When I went to pee this am, it felt like it wasn't going to come out.  There was significant burning  and pain, about a 4; but after looking in the bowl, I did pass some urine, although it didn't seem like much.  That happended twice.  It almost felt like something was in there blocking the flow.  Perhaps a clot or something that needs to be passed but stream isn't yet forceful enough to move it through.

They gave me some antibacterial ointment to help heal my sore penis.  I applied some onto the head and some sore skin on the shaft.  And then I went into the pee hole with a Q-tip about 1.5 inches.  It is sore in there too and if there was a blockage that wasn't deep, maybe I could dislodge it.  It slid in much easier than I expected without any pain; it was well lubricated.  Probably a risky thing to do; but, it seemed to make sense at the time.

Woke up with a formiddable erection, twice during the night and once this am.  Started to yank on the am one, and it felt good, but I thought, not a good idea.  The doc said I wouldn't want to for about 3 weeks.  But, I did want to!   I wanted to see how it felt.  I'll wait another week at least before I go there.  I've heard that after 2 weeks it is very painful to orgasm.

A friend who had a PVP had normal sex on day six with no sign of blood when he later went to the toilet. He thought it may have been a bit cloudy but was not sure about that.

I was more cautious waited from memory to day 15. Also no blood or retro.

Normal sex? What about kinky sex? *lol*

      Sorry. I could not resist.

I have to laugh about all of this.

      Sometimes it seems surreal.

      When did I get old?

How the heck did that happen to me?

Will I become one of those grumpy old men?

!Likely, you are a grumpy old man; you just don't know it yet!  The individual is always the last to know.

I may have missed out on Kinky sex recently!! I was told yesterday that a pimp had rented a flat (used for holiday lets) in our building and had two girls working in it. It was soon discovered and the Janitor threw them out.

My mother and her sisters said that it all goes wrong after 80. I'm now 82 and my prostate is fine but the rest is going fast.

A local mens shop has a lot of clothing labelled for Grumpy Old Men. I bet it is all bought by women with no sense of humour.

So long as your mind stays young it is not so bad.

In England we have an expression 'Old Fogey' Prince Chares is one but his father is not.

Our High Court Judges used to have the reputation of being out of touch with modern life and would ask questions like "Who are the Beatles" I used to think will I get like that that and am now rather proud that I am.

Old age means that we survived. Sadly too many of my peers did not. Some died in their early 20's and have their names on a wall in Washington DC. Some are beginning to leave us now. Just lost one to liver cancer recently.  But life is for the living and fankly I am working hard on becoming a dirty old man and hope I can appreciate the ladies until the day i die,. Happily God or mother nature has reduced my eyesight so I can't notice gray hairs, wrinkles or sagging bits so much.
